Record Crown Range Pass in a Porsche GT3 Cup - /DRIVER'S EYE

newtboy says...

So, not content with the most breathtaking scenery in the world, New Zealand also has some of the most fun to drive roads, and lets people use them like this! I love Targas, and I miss speedvision (which used to show them, but was dropped by Directv).
Damn you guys, I can't take it! I'm gonna have to become a squatter in @ChaosEngine 's back yard for 6 months or so!

If ever there was a need for more cowbell ...

That's too bad. You need a Hook who's going to chew the scenery, not get eaten up by it. Why not Dustin Hoffman again? ...he's still around.

Honest Trailers - Gravity

LooiXIV says...

Don't worry I totally agree. They tried a bunch of stuff cliche symbolism, character growth, but it didn't really mesh up with the plot of the movie. She was suicidal, but finds the will to go on through a space hallucination/talking with some rando Korean (dafuq)? What I gathered from the movie is that we shouldn't try and explore space since "gravity" will pull us back. We should just stay down on earth (since that's what Sandra Bullock spends the entire movie trying to get back to). But then they had George Clooney ask Sandra Bullock to enjoy the scenery, which she never does, which is a confusing message. I guess he was trying to say all the beauty we know is on Earth. This movie tried so so hard to be a "classic" space movie that dove into humanity, blah blah blah, bs bs bs. If anything this is a very anti space exploration movie.

Compare that to the rich symbolism of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Which juxtaposes the beginnings of humanity with where it is now, and asks what is the limit of humanity? Are we confined to Earth? It was really a movie of rebirth and redefining what humanity is and what we're capable of. Also the main character was a bad ass. Not only did he out smart the homicidal computer (which killed everyone except him). He continued his mission!

2001 and Gravity couldn't be more different.

I think they were extremely kind to this movie. Outside of the visual aspect of the movie it was pretty much shit (acting,story,dialogue...). Of course I'm one of the very few that has this opinion. Maybe i'm just getting old and grumpy. GET OFF MY LAWN!

Top 10 Actors Who Haven't Won an Oscar

ChaosEngine says...

Oldman was robbed for Tinker Tailor... he's always been great at big scenery chewing roles, but Tinker Tailor (fantastic movie, btw) showed he could do quiet and subtle as well.

As for Peter O'Toole, he is fantastic and was incredibly unlucky to come up against Gregory Pecks Atticus Finch (an equally worthy winner) when he was nominated for Laurence Of Arabia.

Brad Pitt is ok, but he's just not in the same class.

Lady Gaga Goes Nude On Video!

chingalera says...

I'll take this one: Bjork is in a category of Bjork all her own-Her vocal styling was unusual, maverick for the time-She's a multi-instrumentalist ( heard Gaga play the piano and sing acapella?... not very good) T

Iceland: Not many bands form there anyhow, and she was showcased at 11 on the ONLY Icelandic radio station at the behest of her....classical piano teacher-The girl worked her ass off in several iterations, always changing and pushing the innovative envelope.

Gaga writes trite pop tunes and dances around (quite un-coordinately so) in some pretty tasteless gear while claiming some mastery of taste and style, the same based ENTIRELY in her pop persona. Can't stand her taste in fashion and her music blows sell-out-show, chunks.

At least with Bjork the journey has some changing scenery-Gaga will age like the cheap vintages of Madonna or Mariah Carey, the latter of which has more talent in her wardrobe than Gaga has in her songwriting and musical ability.

At least Carey has a range and some control, gaga sounds like she's grunting when she sings. When you want that, pull out a frikkin' Throbbing Gristle LP!

I know....can't stand modern pop culture-very played, very tired.

Mieders Alpine Coaster - Frustrated Guy Crashes

newtboy says...

The crash looked like the best part to me. I just found myself wanting him to stop for one minute, let go of the brake, and just go full bore to the bottom yelling "NO BRAKES", ramming and then pushing them at full speed. This is a roller coaster, not a sight seeing slide. You are not supposed to stop to look at scenery repeatedly. It completely ruins the ride for those wanting to ride instead of inch down the hill, and it is dangerous for both parties. I would have demanded another free ride or my money back. (then again, I likely would have been thrown out for mangling the sleds and injuring the other rider).

Leopards are Confused by a Mirror in the Forest

Trancecoach says...

I wonder if the leopards' (or other animals', for that matter) reactions to the mirrors will change if mirrors become a more regular part of the scenery. Indigenous peoples have different reactions to mirrors than modern humans. And children pass through a developmental phase by which the reflection in the mirror is recognized as "me" or "not me."

"Drugs are bad, m'kay?" - Head of DEA

arekin says...

Why do they even have these oversight Q&A type things, they only end up with the questioned making every effort to dodge the most basic of questions in an effort to avoid any oversight. EVERY one of these I have seen was a gigantic waste of time. Didn't a banking oversight thing end up in the congressman thanking the bankers for showing up and then leaving for some other "super important meeting"?

You know I tend to give government a lot of room to do there damn job, I don't complain much about some very obvious problems because I know no system is perfect. Cop arrests someone without obvious reason? Whatever, that person will not be held and will be back out in no time. TSA wants to grope me, cool enjoy my balls and let me go on my way. But these things more and more are showing me that there really is no oversight in, well, anything anymore.

I'm really starting to lose faith that the system is working. I'm sure we all knew it wasn't progressing, but at this point its like a car that won't even start, the wheels are just scenery...
