G20 Pittsburgh Protests - Students Trapped and Attacked

Krupo says...

Where was the Penn State football team when you needed it? You seriuosly need some heavy body gear if you're going to tangle with a bunch of Combine storm troopers. This was City 17, right? *dark case of *law abuses no doubt.

Also, this is a modern age representation of why unarmed civilian mobs stand no chance against dragoons. Surprised they didn't just charge them on horseback with lances and sabres while they were at it. Too Czarist? Or not enough horses?

OMG, look at the beatdown the girl gets 5 seconds from teh end - what the HELL was that about?

Yeah, speaking of the 2nd, where were the yahoos with AR-15s who were showing up at Obama's roadshow? Hmmm....

I wonder when the HalfLife 2 mod is coming out?

Shame on the Netherlands!

BicycleRepairMan says...

You want to go rattle sabres about freedom of expression in Europe go publish anything that denies the holocaust, or print Mein Kampf (also banned in Netherlands), or make any kind of Nazi related object in Germany.
Will you go also defending freedom of expression then?

Yes, I would, actually. I think Silencing of holocaust deniers is a bad idea.

That being said, however much you want to, could you REALLY compare Wilders views with that of a nazi, or a holocaust-denier?

If you actually listen to what he says, even in your "Fascist exposed" hardtalk interview, does he threaten violence?, encourage violence?

I would say that he has some pretty simplistic, populistic and unrealistic points of views on how to treat "non-western" immigrants, and, just like holocaust-deniers and simplistic demonizers of "jews" I would say this:

I DO NOT AGREE WITH HIM.

But, in a democracy, that is all beside the point. It is an expression of opinion.

I Dont really give a shit.

He has a democratic RIGHT to express his opinion. Feel free to disagree, as I have, feel free to call him an idiot, call him a fascist, a nazi, a racist, whatever you want.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT THAT.

This is the issue : Should Geert Wilders bet PUNISHED, by the COURT of the Netherlands, for what he has said and done?

My answer is :

NO.

Argued against?
YES

Scorned?
PERHAPS,

Disliked?
Perhaps

Challenged?
YES

As I wrote in some of my previous posts, I disagree with many o our fellow opponents, but do I think Mr. fjordman should be punished For his views? NO. Challenged? Yes opposed? Yes ridiculed? Yes.

But not punished.

Shame on the Netherlands!

The point is that in any case, its all OPINIONS, just like "Allah Ackbar, All infidels are dirt" is an opinion. Both may be good or bad or disgusting, depending on who hears them, but they shouldn't be illegal.

In January 2009 a Dutch court ordered prosecutors to try him for making anti-Islamic statements. "In a democratic system, hate speech is considered so serious that it is in the general interest to... draw a clear line," the court in Amsterdam said.

There is already a mass momentum in Europe by certain politicians that are using the foreign immigrants as a scape goat for social ills so they can incite fear and panic in the voting public. Wilders just targeted Muslims instead, or rather Morrocans and Algerians as a whole. I see this move as a way to stop his BS spilling over in Netherlands. The Netherlands has strict laws against such actions for all religions including Christianity and Judaism.

Also did we watch the same film? Fitna is constructed to be a hate piece against all Muslims. Not extremists. Not fundamentalists. Not cultural Muslims. But all Muslims. It doesn't seek to create any form of dialog, but it just wants to create fear and completely mis represent the largest single faith in the world.

Fitna wishes to demonstrate that the Qur'an, and the Islamic culture in general, motivates its followers to hate all who violate the Islamic teachings. Is this true for all Muslims living in Europe or the Netherlands?

Consequently, the film argues, Islam encourages, among others, acts of terrorism, antisemitism, violence against women, and Islamic universalism. Is this true for all Muslims living in Europe or the Netherlands?

Then it connects it back to Islam in Netherlands. The movie ends with a hand seen gripping a page of the Qur'an and a call to action from Wilders to defeat “Islamic ideology”, likening it to Communism and Nazism. I mean please is this for real?

How can you say that it is simply freedom of expression. It's not, its politically motivated to create division and sew fear in the general public against another set of people based around a religion.

You want to go rattle sabres about freedom of expression in Europe go publish anything that denies the holocaust, or print Mein Kampf (also banned in Netherlands), or make any kind of Nazi related object in Germany.

Will you go also defending freedom of expression then?

"Master Skywalker..."

At least he had the sense kill wooden child actors - I only hope he turned the sabre on himself afterwards.

I really hope Lucas doesn't make any more films, he's just wasting everyone's time.

Stairway to Heaven on Harp - full version

Tiver says...

There was another video of her on youtube playing Sabre Dance on the harp. In that one she's not following any sheet music, and I think the song sounds better than stairway to heaven. Though it isn't as visually appealing as this one as the lighting isn't as good and she's dressed more of for cheerleading practice in sweats.

Zero Punctuation Review: Lego Indy

11735 says...

I picked up a copy of the Lego Star Wars Complete Trilogy the other day. I thought it was actually alot of fun, and worth the price, considering everything that came with it. Putting R2D2s head on Prince Leia's lego biki body and then slaughtering Storm Troopers with a light sabre was great fun... but I can't say that the Lego IJ excites me all that much. Compared to Star Wars, Indiana Jones doesn't have all that many unique looking characters. Plus, no force.

The upcoming Lego Batman may be fun (although I admit that after beating all six Lego Star Wars episode, I'm a bit bored of the concept).

Soul Calibur 4 Trailer, with Vader and Yoda

Magic swords will stop a light-sabre, right? And everyone has a magic weapon in this game. At least +5, immune to sundering. I'd imagine the soul-edge is some sort of epic uber weapon.

From a brief look around, there would seem to be only one case of soft tissue from a dinosaur being found http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/03/0324_050324_trexsofttissue.html

Some soft tissue from inside the leg bone of a T-Rex. Which is pretty frigging amazing in my mind, they re-hydrated the stuff and could get out flexible, transparent material... stunning... stunning stuff to find from 65 odd million years ago.

But I was talking of a whole body like these Mammoths, being preserved... it'll never happen, and the things in La Brea tarpits are much more recent aren't they? Mammoth age and the like, Sabre Tooth tigers and the like, the age of man, not the age of Dinosaurs.

Still, amazing stuff... I guess since seeing Jurassic Park I've actually wanted to see it actually happen... minus the maiming and killing of course.

And also, you see that large one in the diarama they show near the end... that's a friggen real stuffed adult Mammoth.

Makes me wish there was a T-Rex or Brontosaurus frozen in permafrost somewhere than can be found... imagine actually finding a dinosaur with skin, organs etc... it'd be incredible.

There are actually quite a few dino fossils that have preserved tissue other than bone. There are some at the AMNH that have skin and partial internal organs intact; and I believe the La Brea tarpits in LA are home to some extremely well preserved tissues as well.

Hillary Clinton on the nuclear deterrence of Iran

my15minutes says...

allow me to translate, from the original choggish:

madam senator:
i find your sabre-rattling to be disingenuous, and transparently aimed at bolstering your 'diplomatic' credentials, while in fact revealing your lack thereof.

you know perfectly well that iran is currently a theocratic republic, and who currently serves as its heads of state, and of government. being coy with such matters does little to endear you to a public already suspicious of your motives, for attaining our nation's highest office, at a troubled time.

which is why i will refrain from the familiar sophomoric jeers, regarding his name,
as it is surprisingly easy to pronounce: omma dinna jod

however, if i may end with a personal observation?
i am concerned with the quality of your sex life, madam senator.

and with all due sincerity, this has recently driven me to despair...
lying awake, at night... despairing, for you...
