What you need to know about the Obamacare repeal

Drachen_Jager says...

I think Americans woke up to the reality of state-run healthcare only in the last few years. Right now they're just getting used to the idea, but ultimately this GOP ploy will probably backfire in a huge way. The best way to get anyone to notice the value inherent in a program is to take it away from them or sabotage it to the point where it becomes useless.

I've seen so many interviews with middle age to older Americans who voted for Trump because Obamacare increased 200% in cost over a few years and now Trump's going to blow that up by as much as 750%?

Good luck in the mid-terms Republicans.

New Poll Numbers Have Clinton Far Behind And Falling

dannym3141 says...

You're right but the advantage Corbyn has is that we don't have a Trump character. Not only has Farage quit, Boris sunk his own career in a party of backstabbers, but we had our personality politics moment and I think people are past it.

The papers won't tell you that; our 8 billionaires will pull out every stop to convince the great unwashed that he's dangerous. The papers will tell you every day right up until a general election that he will lead Labour into electoral oblivion, even as thousands pack out halls in unprecedented showings of support in northern "racist" (according to MSM) towns. They'll tell you they won't win from UKIP and be out of power for 20 years.

I'm not saying he WILL win a GE because the playing field is not level, the game is not fair. Boundary changes will play right into Tory hands and the character assassinations will only increase, but if ANYONE has a chance of winning for Labour it's Corbyn. Owen Smith hasn't a hope in hell of getting MORE votes than Corbyn would, at an election.

The only way to win is by going with Corbyn but I fear that there are influential ex and current MPs who are sabotaging the campaign because this wave of populism and people power would not be beneficial to their future prosperity.

We are living in a post-truth world right now, with journalistic integrity at an all time low. A window was broken in the stairwell of a building where a Corbyn-Labour rival has an office, and it was splashed all over the news that it was a violent, thuggish Corbyn supporter just like they all are. There was no evidence and they even lied about the facts, which has been reported on twitter and by smaller news sources, but the damage is already done, throw enough shit and some of it will stick.

As Lyndon Johnson says - I know it didn't happen, but let's make the bastard deny it. Oh and apologies for shameless derailment.

On topic:
Is Schieffer making the usual mistake here? "It's not the left she needs to worry about, it's the middle." Taking the left for granted is what happened to Labour in the last 10-15 years and seen their support die pre-Corbyn. Dunno how it is in USA but over here the left have had to hold their noses and vote for a candidate who doesn't represent them at all and they're getting sick of it. So thanks to the internet when they finally see the cracks forming they recoil in horror at how they've been undermined from the inside from day one; why should they ever vote for that again?

It's the same with the Labour establishment and Corbyn in the UK. They'd rather lose the election than have a real progressive elected to the top job.

Amy Goodman on CNN: Trump gets 23x the coverage of Sanders

newtboy says...

*promote the media's obvious absolute bias against Sanders and their continuing attempt to sabotage his campaign by not covering it at all.
On the 'second super Tuesday' when it looked like he might win 2 states, I watched every channel report that Clinton won 3 states, and that's it, never once mentioning the other two states, or even saying the name "Bernie Sanders". I'm not sure how they get away with that, there's a law requiring equal coverage that's being completely ignored by all parties.
This election has been so incredibly outrageous, I've never seen such criminal actions ignored or even lauded by those claiming to love the country. Stupid know nothing cheerleaders that exaggerate their opponents flaws and ignore their own shouldn't be allowed to participate.

Clinton Campaign:Whatever you can get away with just do it

oritteropo says...

I saw a report in the local rag that they've also made one where they caught some Aussies, funded by Labor, trying to sabotage the Trump and Clinton campaigns (they're only supposed to be observing).

They summed up Project Veritas Action as "using questionable techniques"!

I for one would be more surprised if you couldn't find enthusiastic supporters of ANY of the campaigns pushing the boundaries.

Why I Don't Play Videogames Online

ChaosEngine says...

Not really. Griefing is basically causing trouble for other players. It's not so much about berating them as it is about ruining their experience. Typical examples are spawn camping (killing players as soon as they appear) or deliberately sabotaging your own team while pretending to be incompetent.

In this case, the clearly unhinged kid invited the guy making the video into the hole expressly to kill him and steal his shit.

I only know from watching the minecraft southpark episode....in this context, it's someone who gives you grief (berates you in some way) about the quality of what you made/did in minecraft.

Cold Blooded Carrier Manager Annouces 1400 Layoffs

newtboy says...

Moving to Mexico to maintain high levels of product quality? Odd, since quality seems to always lower at least in the short run when factories move, and more so when they move to a neighboring country to save money.
'Strictly a business decision'....so that means he and the board are Trump supporters, right? He is the candidate that advocates doing whatever is good for business, and also the one telling his supporters that America has already gone down the toilet, the logical implications of both are that it's OK to move away to save on taxes and get cheap labor. He's also the one who advocates re-negotiating contracts and agreements after he gets what he wants out of them...meaning if he's president we'll have 4 years of zero international agreements on anything because other countries know full well he can't be trusted to keep them.

It sounds to me like Carrier just killed itself. Anyone thinking about buying a Carrier unit in the next few years should seriously think again. First, they've lost all those customers who buy 'made in America'. Second, those made by these employees may well be sabotaged by disgruntled soon to be ex-employees, and those made at the factory in Mexico will be made by untrained new Mexican employees who don't know what they're doing yet. That means for the next 3+ years, Carrier units will be suspect at best, and more likely dangerously poorly made. It also means getting warranty service is going to get pretty difficult and maybe require sending your unit back to Mexico.

Oh well, bye bye Carrier. You had a nice run.

woman destroys third wave feminism in 3 minutes

AeroMechanical says...

Yeah, somewhere something got confused. My suspicion is that it became more fashionable again and then amongst some groups, they overshot the mark through the sort of one-upmanship you tend to get, particularly among college age political activists. An "I'm a more hardcore feminist than you!" type thing. That's the sort of thing that took some elements of the peace movement during the Vietnam era from basic anti-war/anti Cold war ideals, to militant factions claiming to be communists who supported the North Vietnamese regime and behaving in ways that hurt the overall peace movement (mistreating returning GIs and performing acts of sabotage and terrorism).

It seems you always get this thing with political movements. Groups with mostly but not entirely similar ideals and goals end up expending more effort opposing each other more than on their primary aims.

All that said, though I always understood the feminist movement to be concerned with social equality for all people, I wouldn't necessarily condemn them for being primarily interested in equality for women. They should, of course, be aware and acknowledge that this is just a specialized subset of the "social equality" movement as a whole.

Disturbing Muslim 'Refugee' Video of Europe

shang says...

You wouldn't like my resolution.

Course main reason majority of Americans are against it is our culture and heritage. Americans have never ran. During British rule we didn't run to Louisiana territory begging Spain or France to accept refuges. We took up arms and bled for our land. Patriotism is not bad as political correctness morons try to push.

That's why for us, or many of us, refugee makes no sense. And our forefathers even exclaimed if any Americans became refugees they deserved no country, our creed "give me liberty or give me death!" The 2nd amendment left behind by our founders to ensure a free society.

"We need a revolution every 200 years, because all governments become stale and corrupt after 200 years. " - Benjamin Franklin

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson

The word refugee makes absolutely zero sense to Americans. At least me being Generation X and all my generation and older. You do not run you die fighting. The beginning of the Revolution Americans didn't have hardly any weapons, it was sabotage and terrorism and the capture of gun stockpiles by militias the armed the beginning, then France helped supply us.

They should right, but the proof is they are not refugees! That's media political correctness lies. Just as said in that video
Quote by Muslim - "this isn't refugees, this is invasion"
They use political correctness as a shield to get in.

Rainbow six Siege gives me sexual feelings!

Chairman_woo says...

The AI in terrorist hunt mode might actually be the best I've ever faced in an FPS. I play that mode more than the PvP tbh.

They react to sound like people, shoot blind through cover to probe for you, attack you where your are weak, pull back where you are too strong etc.

Bastards even recognise your choke points and sabotage them by opening other routes and or destroying obstacles. (Or recognise you are outflanking theirs if you make too much noise etc.)

Make you think and move more in terms of what makes real world sense than simply what will outfox the AI.

TBH they are often smarter than the human players who play like they are in COD or BF and wonder why the tactical players keep shafting them.

Star Trek Beyond - Trailer 1

Star Trek Beyond - Trailer 1

ChaosEngine says...

Jesus fucking christ, how did this abortion ever get green lit?

Way to completely and utterly miss the point of a franchise.

What's next? The next Raid to be a slow-paced, dialogue heavy introspection into the nuances of Indonesian geopolitics?
Does the drummer in Whiplash 2 join a metal band?

Every single thing about this is just stupid, from the soundtrack* to the lame attempt to give Chris Pine Kirks haircut. Fuck, I haven't even mentioned anything about the direction or the story yet.

@CrushBug, don't take this personally, but if there was a way to unpromote or anti-quality I would use every single point I earned on this abomination.

Look, if you want to make an awesome action movie in space with a kick arse soundtrack, great! Sign me the fuck up for that one. In fact, I watched it last year, it was called Guardians of the Galaxy and I loved it.

But that's not what Star Trek is about. Why would you even bother spending money on the licence? It's not that you can't even make a great Trek movie with decent action beats (First Contact nailed both), but Star Trek is supposed to be a tiny bit more thoughtful.

Fuck everything about this.

* I love the Beastie Boys and Sabotage is a great song, but it fits Star Trek about as well as smooth jazz would fit the next Avengers.
