God damnit Chug.

HerbWatson says...

Food shaming? I know all about that.

Apparently all I eat is grass, my teeth will rot, my bones will be weak, and I'll die 6 times in a row from protein deficiency. That's just on the daily. Despite me never eating meat in my 51 years of life (Indian parents).

The real clever people like to tell me that I'll make the cows go extinct, and the next person will tell me that the cows will overpopulate the earth if we don't eat them.

Don't worry about doing a degree in nutrition, just tell someone you don't eat animal foods, and they'll become a dietitian in about 4 seconds :-)

Free Guy | Official Trailer

wraith says...

Stream of conciousness;

Oh another Superhero Movie ..... oh wait .... THIS does look different ... and even more boring!

It feels like 1/10 the Dark Knight, 1/5 Deapool, 1/1 Wreck It Ralph and 12/3 Ready Player One thrown together. And yeah I know that it is basically just a movie about GTA/Saint's Row.

Man I can't even remember when a trailer really really made me want to NOT watch a movie, like this one.

This trailer gives me the feeling that someone thought that every, run of the mill superhero/videogame-movie will get edgy if it stars Ryan Reynolds. This shows me two things: Hoolywood is stupd (who would have thought) and Ryan Reynolds was succesful in making you all forget Green Lantern. ;-)

A Tribute to Monty Python from South Park

BSR says...

I learned about Monty Python from my high school print shop teacher in my freshman year. We would listen to 'Monty Python's Previous Record' while sorting out all the lead type in the California job case while laughing our butts off. Good times.

Fun Fact:

To remember which letters go into the correct slots in the type case, we learned short phrases. Basically 3 rows held the basic alphabet and the 3 phrases were:

Be Careful Driving Elephants Into Small Foreign Garages - BCDEISFG
Let Money Not Hinder Our Young Peoples Workings - LMNHOYPW
Vern Underwood Took (3-em spaces) And Ran - VUT(3-em spaces)AR

This is good to know in the event that you get asked on a radio quiz show.

You're welcome.

60 teens vandalizing and looting Walgreens

BSR says...

I'm not that cynical. It's best I trust he was joking.

Edit: He would call out the people in the front row and that would be just as funny for the same reason.

I don't think he's mocking the stereotype, he's spreading it under the guise of humor.

Edit: If Hart did that for a laugh, you can be certain he would then call out white people in the front row for laughing.

Joking about your own groups foibles is a form of owning up to them, joking about another's group's perceived foibles is denigration.

BSR said:

Well... no, it's funny also. If a black comedian like Kevin Hart said the same thing it would be funny. It's a stereotype that needs to be mocked. If only black people are allowed to mock black stereotypes, isn't that racist also.

As far as stealing food goes, if you are making the case that food is being taken to fight hunger, and compassion is in order, I don't think that's the case here. Its being taken just the same anything else is, regardless. A grabber is no different than thief in this scenario. You break it, you buy it.

Black or white, this is just mob mentality and anyone who participates knows what the consequences are. If any. If nothing else, the store has learned something hopefully.

As far as what @bobknight posted, he did push the "jokingly says" button so I can choose to believe he mocks the very stereotype that was posted. And I did say it was wrong too.

Warehouses: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

Mystic95Z says...

I watched this the other day before it made it to videosift and thought to myself, Amazons programmers must not be too bright when each picker has one of those handhelds and should know their current location and optimize picks based on location vs ping ponging people all over the warehouse and like one person said being in row 50 and being given 10 secs to get to a row in the 70's is stupid.... Running in the workplace is usually frowned upon for safety reasons and thats what it would take while pushing a cart...

Game of Thrones Season 8 Pitch Meeting

Digitalfiend says...

This video really does sum up my feelings about Season 8.

I was mostly okay with the first half of Season 8 and could even give the writers a pass for only spending one episode on the battle of Winterfell and the Night King's destruction but...everything after that? Complete shit. I mean, Rhaegal getting shot not once, but twice, by scorpions from the "hidden" Iron Fleet, from what looked like a million miles away, was utter nonsense and only done for shock value. Unlike when the Night King killed Viserion, which was actually moving, Rhaegal's death was pointless and made no sense. For one, how could Dany not see all those ships from up there? Furthermore, it'd be ridiculously hard to hit a fly target, twice in a row, from that distance. Ugh.

The biggest misstep in my opinion was turning Dany into a villain. Her character was one of the more interesting of the series as she went from being a naïve slave, to a fighter, a mother, and ultimately became a champion of the people. She was a strong female character with mostly good, if somewhat flawed, intentions. While her drive to claim the Iron Throne and unite Westeros could be seen as warmongering, she certainly didn't deserve to be portrayed as a mad tyrant. That just seemed forced.

Then we have: Bran the Broken and Jon's banishment to the Night's Watch. What the hell? Everything in the finale seemed so forced and discarded a lot character development established in previous seasons. The last two episodes of season 8 were just really disappointing.

MAGA Catholic Kids Mock Native Veteran's Ceremony

bcglorf says...

@newtboy,

missed your reply, you need to check the video again as you clearly didn't watch what I'm watching.
You said:
"I disagree 100%. Sane people did this to stop the rapidly escalating anger between the kids and (disgusting) black Israelites before the kids attacked the Israelites, which seemed inevitable because no one was controlling the kids (or the small group of Black Israelites) and the kids were getting more and more rowdy."
At 1:09 the Black Israelites are making fun of the kids specifically because they are "keeping their distance". At 1:11 the kids are presumably standing/jumping doing one of their school chants, moving no closer to the black Israelites. At 1:12 after the chant, the kids all sit down. After the kids have been not only 'keeping their distance', but sitting down now for a minute is when Nathan Phillips comes in to 'de-escalate' things. You can not honestly paint that as looking like an 'inevitable attack' was coming from the kids. The reality is the kids were staying back, and sitting down while the Black Israelite adults continued trying unsuccessfully to escalate things.

You later said:
"and note smirk boy is not there, he gets into the stationary elders face later. "

If you look at 1:13, smirk boy is 3 rows back from the elder. If you watch till 1:14 you notice that the camera man isn't moving, but Phillips gets further and further away because is walking slowly into the crowd of students. The students don't so much surround him, they make way as he invades their personal space until they move until about 1:15. If you watch 1:15, the camera is the same place as it was back at 1:11, the kids are at the same distance from the camera and the same location on the stairs, but now you can't even see Phillips because he's so far into the group.

I gotta admit, I'm a little floored you can come away still seeing what you want to see...

What can happen to you when you live near train tracks

CrushBug says...

We stayed in a campground in the States, I can't remember where. We didn't know that there were tracks just past the row of trees, just behind our trailer.

The trains only ran after midnight. That was a wake up call.

Vox: Why gamers use WASD to move

spawnflagger says...

personally I prefer ESDF... the F key has a nib to show "home row" so can be found easily by touch. Also lets me bind QAZ to functions that I can press with my little finger while still moving. I'd usually bind one of the side mouse buttons to toggle crouch. Mousewheel up/down to change weapons.
