Do you think this is normal in this sport? You're absurd analogies have nothing in common here. They don't pose a threat to anyone, but a trained fighter can still be a threat even when they are knocked silly. Do you think the ref should just sit there and get beat up?

I have seen a few times where a KO'd fighter gets up and tries to keep fighting thinking the ref is the opponent, but I've never seen a ref choke out the fighter before though. Refs are trained to handle these situations, and usually defend themselves from the fighter until they come to their senses or the corner team get there. Choking the fighter out may have been a bit extreme, but he stopped the fighter without causing harm the fighter.

There's nothing sane about boxing. Strapping giant gloves to your hands and punching each other in the head doesn't sound reasonably sane to me.

There's a misconception that gloves make fights safer. The purpose of gloves is to allow a fighter to punch harder without breaking their hands. MMA originally didn't use gloves, but to get athletic certification in most states they had to give in and use gloves.

Getting knocked silly, pausing the fight and giving a fighter 10 seconds to recover so they can get punched in the head more is far worse and more dangerous to a fighter's health than letting the fight continue to a KO, although in MMA, the ref should stop the fight when a fighter is not capable of defending themself.

I totally agree citizens United (i mean the court ruling bearing that name) put a poison pill in all of our political cups. The reason (traditionally) is that soccer does not have many long interruptions, like American football or Baseball. Free-Kick, Throw-In, Change-ins, even Penalty shots - everything happens quite fast and barely has influence on the game time of 90 minutes. There is only one longer break in-between. So the 3 Refs on the field usually have 1 other Ref standing on the sidelines who will give his overview input on things they may have missed. He is the only one who would be able to evaluate video material - but that would have to happen extremely fast, with barely any discussion.
