So anyway, turns out microchips are a good thing...

poolcleaner says...

Is it sad that this is how my wife gets me from out under our car? It's ok, honey, let me go get your collar and leash and then we can go for a walk. It's okay, bae, it's ooookaaayyy.

But the other cars! Scary...

Wait... honey... you say I have a microchip? What does that even mean? You're not my owner?! Babe, I completely forgot before we were married I was sold to an Irishman to fill in for a cattle dog on a ranch in Tulsa. Damn, well, I guess time for my homeward bound moment. Say goodbye to your precious Luna. Bye.

Armed Oregon Militants Not Guilty, Dakota Activists Aressted

newtboy says...

Perhaps they have it wrong, and the difference isn't race, but being armed. Protest with rifles, seize federal property and destroy it, and threaten federal officials directly with death, and you'll be fine?
Nope, never mind. They're right, it's about racial privilege...if the natives were protesting while armed, we would be seeing another Waco instead of arrests.

It's still astonishing that the 7 terrorists were just set free, however. It sets a horrifically dangerous precedent, and proves that 'conservatives' have zero respect for the law or civilized behaviour. Someone needs to go squat on the Bundy ranch armed to the teeth until they own it. I wouldn't convict them if they just claim it's done in protest...turnabout's fair play, guys.

THE CRUELTY BEHIND OUR CLOTHING - WOOL

newtboy says...

No, I'm basing it on the theory that farmers want to make money, and you don't do that by abusing the product.
Also, the theory that MOST farmers are in it because they love the animals, because there are WAY easier and more certain ways to make money than abusive ranching.
Of course, there are those freaks that want to abuse the animals, don't care about them, or are too dumb to know better, which is why I won't say 100%.

I would like to also point out that human circumcisions are done without anesthetic. Some level of pain infliction to prevent more pain and injury is acceptable....but by that be clear I'm not excusing the behavior in the video.

transmorpher said:

You did say that, but then you also said: "99.95% of farms would never allow anything they showed to happen"

Which I'm assuming that you're basing that on "my friends farm is nice, so 99.95% farms must be fine"

THE CRUELTY BEHIND OUR CLOTHING - WOOL

newtboy says...

That's odd, I recall specifically mentioning that I wouldn't speak about places I didn't know about, like Australia. I think a reading comprehension class may be in order.
As for your personal experience, I can only go by what you've said, which indicates you have none because it goes against 46 years of my own experience, which I KNOW is extensive in this field (farming/ranching). Not many people travel to other continents to go visit other farms to see how they do things....I actually have done so repeatedly, up to and including last week in Iceland.

EDIT: And I said you TRY to lambast, not that you are successful in making me feel lambasted.

Not only do you know what every farm in the world is like, you also know how much or little personal experience I have with this topic as well.

Michigan Republicans Said What-What? Not in the Butt!

bobknight33 says...

Another useless law unless they catch you.
So much for street prostitutes. 15 years for a BJ. Ouch.

Guess we will have to go to the government owned Bunny Ranch in Nevada for a legal BJ and to get your butt plugged.

The Oregon Standoff, Explained In 3 Minutes

scheherazade says...

I listened to an interview with some connected folks to this situation a few days ago, and there's a bit more to it.

(I don't remember any detail, but the gist was ...)

The ranch is directly adjacent to the refuge, and the government has been trying to grow the refuge.

The government has been trying to get the particular rancher's land for a while, offering to buy it, and generally making living there inconvenient, to encourage him/them to leave.

There was some funny business with the arson charge, like there being some hunters on the land that had a different account of the events, and their account was at odds with what the government asserted happened.

Folks have the opinion that the arson charge was a convenient way of dialing up the 'get out of town' message - and so this occupy whatever response is some sorta backlash. Something like : "You want us to leave so you can have our stuff? Oh yeah? Well why don't YOU leave and we'll take YOUR stuff?! Take that!"

Also, the group has not been isolated. People and media come and do all the time, and the group makes daily statements to the media. One reporter noted that he has only seen one person carrying a firearm the entire time (a single man with a pistol in a holster), and everyone else has no firearms on their person (regardless if they have any in general, they aren't walking around armed).

What's Really Going on in Oregon! Taking Back the Narrative

newtboy says...

Sorry, Ms Constitutional lawyer...the supreme court disagreed with you long ago on almost every point.

AND...if the fed can't actually own the land as she claims, then they couldn't possibly legally have GIVEN that land to the ranchers, could they? The land would be the property of the people the fed took it from, namely the native Paiute in this case. The fed broke treaties, and illegally used the military to remove the owners, then gave it to settlers. Somehow I doubt they care about THAT overreach of the Fed, though, because that doesn't help them steal land for themselves.
So, if the Fed owning and managing land were unconstitutional, it would legally go back to the natives. Period. I think if that was pointed out clearly to these idiots, they would suddenly find the Fed's ownership of land legal, because otherwise the land they own today (not just the federal land) is the forcefully stolen property of the natives, and these people would have to leave their ranches and go back to England (or wherever their ancestors came from).

Federal law IS above the states law, so in the way she's mentioning, the federal government IS above the state.

It's so sad that her interpretation of the Constitution is so incredibly different from the well defined, legally codified interpretations made by the only group that is empowered to make final interpretations, the supreme court, but she somehow doesn't understand that her self serving interpretation doesn't trump theirs. If she's really a lawyer, how did she ever pass the bar with such a poor grasp of the law and how it works?

Massive Methane Leak-Ecological Disaster In California

eric3579 says...

Although the smell, due to the additives, which were noticed way back (oct-nov) by the communities near by. http://ktla.com/2015/10/30/concerned-porter-ranch-residents-protest-after-gas-facility-leak-causes-odor/

The company has been relocating families since it seems.

Another video that shows the leak about three weeks ago

Massive Methane Leak-Ecological Disaster In California

eric3579 says...

It amazes me they are able to keep this disaster quiet. Nothing for two months. How does that happen?

Updates on the story.

"The company's plan to drill a relief well is now underway, reports the Daily News, and they're drilling a second, backup relief well too, in case the first one doesn't do the trick. The main relief well won't be complete until March, though; the backup well will only begin to be drilled in January, with completion taking between three and four months."
More complete info in the story.

The secret lives of cows

artician says...

I grew up on my family's non-industrial cattle ranch (we weren't a meat factory). Almost every night for dinner for my entire childhood: home-grown steak, burgers, and whatever else you could make out of cow-chunks.

I. Had. No. Clue. How good I had it then.

(edit: I have empathy for animals and hate the meat-industry, for what it's worth)

Work Hard? Jeb Bush Has A Plan For You & You're Not Gonna Li

newtboy says...

70 years old for retirement!?! You can suck it, buddy! I bet he hasn't ever actually worked hard in his life, certainly not since he had to clear brush at Niggerhead Ranch as a teen (his family ranch, in case you've forgotten).
Interesting he's proposing a retroactive tax on the elderly with his plan by not paying out on the benefits they already paid for. I would think that wouldn't go over well with his constituents...but they mostly can't follow logic, only talking points, so they mostly won't even notice I bet.

Texas cop busts a pool party picking on the black teens

bobknight33 says...

The Facebook police statement..
"Pool Party Incident:

On June 5, 2015 at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers from the McKinney Police Department responded to a disturbance at the Craig Ranch North Community Pool. The initial call came in as a disturbance involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave. McKinney Police received several additional calls related to this incident advising that juveniles were now actively fighting.

First responding officers encountered a large crowd that refused to comply with police commands. Nine additional units responded to the scene. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the situation..."

It does not say that white or blacks were fighting. Since the cop was gathering up black kids it appears that they were the uninvited guests and some broke out in fighting. The video or text does not say just that juveniles were now actively fighting. More info is needed.

The cops have to gain control of the situation, then go about finding out what occurred and who did what.

The girl was as the wrong place at the wrong time. The cop was in no mood to play around.

Once again obey, let the cop do what he needs to do and everyone moves on.

What was the result? Did they find who did the fighting?

Indian scrambled eggs with a surprise

artician says...

I don't know that this is fake. It happens all the time with eggs and hens that don't benefit from modern production methods of sorting.
(I never would have guessed I'd say something in favor of modern food production, but there you go?)
Anyway, I've had to do this myself when I was a kid, growing up on my families ranch. I doubt this was fake because of the reaction of the guys cooking, too, but if it were I'd hold all their faces to that frying pan for throwing three baby chicks onto a hot plate.

To A Childs Delight, George Lucas Says Jedis Can Get Married

newtboy says...

They went over this in Episode 3 quite a lot. It was the reason Anakin turned to the dark side...the fear of the loss of his love. It may not be explicitly forbidden, but it's certainly discouraged and frowned upon. While telling the child he could get married as a Jedi was a sweet thought, it's not really being honest.

I found it insane that 'low income' was anyone making under $72K per year!
It really does sound like the housing project is a slap back at his neighbors for not letting him expand his studio. Where his ranch is, there are no services, no stores, and probably no busses. I went there in the early 90's, and it was not near town at all. Today it's nearly a gated community in the hills with multi to hundreds of million dollar homes. It's a nice thought, and I hope it does help some people who are struggling, but purchasing land in or near town to build it really seems more reasonable and helpful to those really in need, like people living on or near minimum wage in the bay area. Those people won't be able to live in these low income homes, because they won't be able to get to work reasonably from there unless they're doing something about that problem too.

Wow, this George guy is pretty cool when he's not ruining my childhood!

Here's other cool things he's been doing with his spare time now that he isn't writing and directing what would certainly be crappy sequels to the Star Wars franchise.
