No other copycats I played like Jagged Alliance came close to my love of X-COM.

I always picked my team members that's high on Psych att/def. I prefer mind control the aliens to recon & go on suicide missions than using firepower.

Alameda County just suspended and removed guns from near 10% of its police force for failing psychological exams. Some of these officers had been actively policing for 6 or more years since failing the required exams, in violation of state law, because the sherif took the bad legal advice from “California Commission of Police Standards and Training” that once told him it might be legal to hire people who fail the psych test (not that it was acceptable) and they ran with that incorrect advice.

You have to be a real serious dangerous idiot to fail these psych tests. They aren’t hard.

Worse, the 47 dangerous and unqualified officers put on desk duty will still get full pay and benefits as police despite being totally unqualified and legally barred from holding the job.

I recently visited a slaughterhouse where they are in the beginning of the season. They unalive 3k+ animals daily.

I am not a vegetarian, and I have a deep understanding that we need food to survive, and that meat is important part of our diet.

Nevertheless, this hit me hard in multiple parts.

First, just listening to all the animals outside inside trailers.
Secondly, contemplating their imminent fate.
Third, what does this do to your psyche if you are the one unaliving x amount of animals each day.

Life is precious. I'll be first in line the moment we figure out how to grow proteins and carbs in laboratories.

The scale of sensitivity has changed.

Back then, if a white dude beat up a black dude for being black, people would just say some shit about it and move on.

Today, name calling can land you in jail.

What qualifies as terrible has a lower threshold in today's social psyche.

As racism becomes rarer and milder, any remaining form sticks out that much more, and is that much more offensive.

(Same with violence. We're in the safest time in human history, but people are more worried about kidnappings and shootings than ever)

Basically, it's all relative.

I had a coworker that said to me 'this place is really racist', and I asked why. He said 'because nobody says hi to me as I walk down the hall'. My response was 'So? I never say hi to anybody'. So, I started forcing myself to say hi to people, just to maintain appearances. Otherwise, I'd just be going about my day minding my own business, and people could be getting the wrong impression.

Actually not, it was a day with plenty of important news, which makes the massive interest in a fart even more odd.
My guess is everyone needs a break from vitally important but exhausting international and national politics and #fartgate provided a nice distraction.
Also, the collective American psyche is an 8 year old.

Ignoring she's a clear gold digger and soft core porn model, it's an astonishing lack of self awareness to announce her anti bullying movement isn't about kids being bullied, it's about herself, the biggest victim of bullying ever! She's not even the biggest bullying victim of her husband, who's a professional bully.

Compared to the hyper racist, constant, even institutionalized bullying Michelle endured with calm and grace, Melania is treated like a Disney princess constantly. Michelle got everything Melania gets X5, but got (still gets) all the racial attacks as well. You just didn't hear her whine about it or start a national movement backed by the Whitehouse to try to stop her personal issues with trolls.

Consider, "people" like you insist a foreign nude model with little education, no degree like she lied and claimed to have from various universities (now proven false, she left after 1 year) and horrible English skills (almost as bad as her husband) who married the internet troll in Chief for money is a better spokeswoman/speaker than a well educated lawyer who's public speaking prowess is above reproach, head and shoulders above any person on the right, elected or not. Recall, Melania thought Michelle spoke so well, she plagiarized Michelle's speech.

Consider, you could not mention Michelle without calling her names, bullying her is so ingrained in the right's psyche it doesn't even register to you. I'm impressed you thought and changed "gorilla" to "dog". That's actually an improvement, which is an incredibly sad demonstration of how low the right has sunk, completely lacking civility while whining they aren't coddled enough.
