Obama Delivers at the White House Correspondents' Dinner

VoodooV says...

really? I'm not the one that got bent out of shape at the observation that Lantern seems to know way too many specific things about gay lifestyle. A normal person who is secure in their sexuality doesn't get angry when they're called gay. Most people don't get angry about what strangers on the internet think of them...so I'm not really the one you should talk to about hate and anger my good chum.

Oh and as for "belonging" here, That's really funny coming from someone who's been reprimanded by the staff numerous times and called out by many fellow sifters. You might want to ask yourself if you really belong here. I don't hang out in right wing nutjob websites where you would feel at home,, but you seem to whine and complain about the left slant here, yet you remain....so do us and yourself a favor chum....seriously think about your continued presence here I'm not kidding.

and @lantern53, you obviously didn't watch the video. He poked fun at himself and the administration many times. The fact that you didn't watch the video and still couldn't contain your anger at my observation really speaks more about me than you

Have a great day chums.. Feel free to try again...I can do this all day

Your so bent out of shape. Please just go away and leave discussions to real people like @lantern53 and the rest of the sifters. Go back to MSNBS posts, you would be right back at home. With all your hate, you don't belong here

The REAL Reason You're Circumcised

lucky760 says...

I've heard reports from several men who had sex before and after and said there was zero difference in sensation.

I circumcised my boys but not at all because of aesthetics, nor to "look like me", and especially not for any kind of religious reason.

We weren't dead-set against leaving them un-cut. In fact, we initially figured we'd just let them be natural.

One reason we decided to go ahead with it is we heard about lots of uncircumcised men have issues that require them to have it done later in life (e.g., phimosis, etc.), but the bigger reason was recent (at that time) studies showed strong evidence that circumcised men are at substantially lower risk for serious life-threatening diseases such as HIV and penile cancer (that results from HPV).

>> Yep, it's fucking barbaric. It is genital mutilation of children, period.

Talk about misinformation from a bunch of barbarians.

It's more barbaric to be completely close-minded, backward-thinking, and ignorant as to why there might possibly exist valid reasons to provide your children an almost 100% chance to avoid a plethora of penis-related problems and life-threatening diseases for their entire life in exchange for what's really a very minor procedure when done soon after birth.

The reasons against it? "It's fucking barbaric." Because... why again? "It just is," I'm sure is the best possible response.

The reasons in favor of it? Don't be so glib. Read the research.

Science Daily from Jan 2010:

Other epidemiological studies have shown that male circumcision is associated with significant reductions in HIV acquisition in men.

The strongest evidence for a cause-and-effect relationship between circumcision and HIV risk reduction came from three randomized-control trials in sub-Saharan Africa, where the circumcision rate is relatively low and the HIV infection rate is relatively high. All three demonstrated a more than 40 percent reduction in HIV acquisition among circumcised men.

The largest of these three studies -- in Rakai, Uganda -- was led by Dr. Ronald H. Gray, an epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins and the scientific paper's senior author. Dr. Gray's group collected penile swabs from all of the circumcision trial study participants, which provided the data for the new TGen-Johns Hopkins study.

The new study found that circumcision -- the removal of the foreskin, or prepuce, from the penis -- eliminates an area of mucous membrane and dramatically changes the penile bacterial ecosystem. Significantly, TGen's analysis of more than 40 types of bacteria, using a 16S rRNA gene-based pyrosequencing approach, suggests that the introduction of more oxygen following circumcision decreases the presence of anaerobic (non-oxygen) bacteria and increases the amount of aerobic (oxygen-required) bacteria.

American Cancer Society:
HPV can also cause cancer of the penis in men. HPV infection is found in about half of all penile cancers. It’s more common in men with HIV and those who have sex with other men.

There is no approved screening test to find early signs of penile cancer. Because almost all penile cancers start under the foreskin of the penis, they may be noticed early in the course of the disease.

...

The 2 main risk factors for genital HPV infection in men are having many sex partners and not being circumcised.

The risk of being infected with HPV is strongly linked to having many sex partners.

Men who are circumcised (have had the foreskin of the penis removed) have a lower chance of getting and staying infected with HPV. Men who have not been circumcised are more likely to be infected with HPV and pass it on to their partners.

Facts like these are "the REAL reasons" my sons are circumcised.

Were you circumcised later in life so you are able to compare sex before and after? If not, then no, you can't say that.

THIS SITE IS A JOKE (Comedy Talk Post)

artician says...

But in all seriousness, the OP probably had the concept of paid-features presented to them wrong, or they didn't understand it in the context of this site.
I don't like paid-to-win inequality, but I've always felt the reason for allowing that was to just generate some revenue to keep the site running, while being just expensive enough to keep it from turning into a commercial free-for-all.

i.e. People who pay to feature videos are probably doing it because they want their friends on here to see something they made or some such.
I can't imagine anyone would pay to promote something in the sense of advertising or growing a web-presence.

That said, I do dislike the social ladder here. I love this site because the community is generous and welcoming, but I'll never feel comfortable sifting a video and trying to get votes for it just to gain a 'level' in some such thing.
To this day I still can't downvote videos, promote, or create related links, and to me is more of a confirmation of why such a system is a bad way to reward participation, rather than a motivation to participate further. I went through the popularity-gauntlet enough in grade/high-school, so any system like this rubs me the wrong way.

Still, 99% of my video watching is through here! I might visit all other video sites collectively to make up for that last 1%, maybe. You can't argue with results!!

Wish I Was Here - First Teaser Trailer

lucky760 says...

I was very happy to hear the first audible note of the teaser to be The Shins. I hoped their latest album (which is great, btw) would be a strong presence in his new movie like their first album was in his last movie, and it looks like I will not disappointed.

I hope this does great in the box office. I think this looks like an excellent flick.

Fuck The Poor

Asmo says...

No, it's understandable that people are offended enough by a sign saying "fuck the poor" to fight against it. Words are far easier to elicit from people than positive action...

People don't feel comfortable around beggars. Perhaps it highlights what might be, perhaps they are just snobs, but translating words in to action is one of the biggest problems with humanity.

Take the internet for example, slacktivism at an all time high and yet less and less actually seems to get fixed. Numbers drop dramatically from calls for action on forums to online petitions to online donations to physical presence at protests...

It's easy to offer an opinion, far harder (apparently) to offer 5 bucks...

It's understandable that people would confront a guy for being disrespectful to poor people... it's also understandable that most people don't believe that the best solution is to hand money to some random guy on the street with a placard.

*Disturbing* Police Shooting (killing) Of Albaquerque Man

lucky760 says...

I would vote for this as snuff because it's a short death clip that does not seem an exception per the posting guidelines:

The presence of human fatality is acceptable and not considered "snuff" if presented as a limited, incidental portion of a lengthy educational, informative news report or documentary that encompasses a much broader narrative. Our definition of "snuff" does include but is not exclusive to any short clip in which a human fatality occurs whether or not any victims are actually visible on camera.

David Mitchell on Atheism

CreamK says...

Firm agnostic here too. The most sane ideology to have today. Tomorrow it might be something else but i feel agnostics are the only ones to use diplomacy between godders and no-godders. Both groups can never understand each other, agnostics understand them both.

To anyone saying that agnosticism is simply just indecisiveness, and that is both sides: it is not. We simply don't think it's an issue you need to be on one side or the other. That's what you do. We accept both views and navigate between them trying to find what is real and what is not, since both sides try to manipulate true facts all the time according to your needs. We don't do that. If something, agnosticism is the true scientific approach; trying to find out what is true without any predisposition or beliefs...

It's ONLY that both sides are now so far apart that anything that contradicts them, is totally blasphemous/unscientific. There is no such thing as true agnosticism. There are people who are closer to believing in god and further away and no one cares how you think. People who belong to either of the marginal camps seems like idiots to me who are never going to be coaxed in either way; the more evidence you put on the table for one argument, you will oppose it even more. Its a futile discussion. We got much bigger problems to solve than if there's a god.

At the moment, there are more evidence pointing that there is no god. Nothing has been proven as a fact in either way. There would be same amount of violence with or without religion, the reasons would change superficially but nothing would change or will change if you abolish or religion. It takes about 10 years that new batch of believers arrive even if you eradicated all religion and all history: if you wipe people minds now, tomorrow someone believes in angels or goblins.. Or dragons.. It's inbuilt survival mechanism: you don't get it all, there must be a bigger plan etc.. it's human nature, not a part of our society. The feeling the presence of God is scientifically proven to be just a short circuit in our brain.. That alone makes it certain that belief in supernatural will go on.

The Easiest Way To Avoid The Kiss Cam

JiggaJonson says...

What Work Is

We stand in the rain in a long line
waiting at Ford Highland Park. For work.
You know what work is--if you're
old enough to read this you know what
work is, although you may not do it.
Forget you. This is about waiting,
shifting from one foot to another.
Feeling the light rain falling like mist
into your hair, blurring your vision
until you think you see your own brother
ahead of you, maybe ten places.
You rub your glasses with your fingers,
and of course it's someone else's brother,
narrower across the shoulders than
yours but with the same sad slouch, the grin
that does not hide the stubbornness,
the sad refusal to give in to
rain, to the hours wasted waiting,
to the knowledge that somewhere ahead
a man is waiting who will say, "No,
we're not hiring today," for any
reason he wants. You love your brother,
now suddenly you can hardly stand
the love flooding you for your brother,
who's not beside you or behind or
ahead because he's home trying to
sleep off a miserable night shift
at Cadillac so he can get up
before noon to study his German.
Works eight hours a night so he can sing
Wagner, the opera you hate most,
the worst music ever invented.
How long has it been since you told him
you loved him, held his wide shoulders,
opened your eyes wide and said those words,
and maybe kissed his cheek? You've never
done something so simple, so obvious,
not because you're too young or too dumb,
not because you're jealous or even mean
or incapable of crying in
the presence of another man, no,
just because you don't know what work is.

Doug Stanhope On Lame Celebrities

Chairman_woo says...

He describes them in almost exactly those terms on twitter in fact.

He doesn't have much of a mainstream presence in the UK & it's pretty standard practice for comedians who make the transatlantic jump (one way or the other) to take a bunch of their best older material and reuse it to gain a foothold.

Money in the bank as they say.

ChairmanDrew said:

I noticed lately with these Weekly Wipe segments, Doug's just been rehashing bits from shows he did years ago. Makes me wonder if any of them have been new material...

How Conservative Media Treated Women In 2013

I honestly don't know how Rush is still alive. I really don't think I could let him open his mouth in my presence with murdering the cunt (and I don't use that in the sexist sense, merely that he is deserving of what is considered the most vile epithet I know)
