Who is this pathetic whiny gym attendant bitching about people wearing jeans??? And that justifies a cop decking a peaceful bike rider for no reason other than they think critical mass is a nuisance.

I almost think this is some bizarre psyops experiment for the upcoming pandemic and financial crash.. and this is an effort to convince even 10 people just to lie down and take it. Pretend it is prison, don't question the stupid attendant, their arbitrary rules and power trip clearly make a vital difference in the world. Who cares if it is made up and capricious. Obey the power-tripping alpha dog at all costs. Take it up the ass in prison, never put up a fight.

Cop arrests journalist and cameraman

longde says...

I don't think the cops are justified. He definitely overstepped the line.

On the other hand, it's common sense to obey a cop's order and get the hell out when they tell you to do so. Not to smugly treat them like the weekend help. So, screw that reporter.

As to the cops having a problem communicating the seriousness of the situation, some of us treat every encounter with cops like the life-and-death situations they are. "Yes sir" "No sir" "Have a good day sir" Not because we are rightwing authoritarians, but because we realize that a guy with a power trip and a gun can overstep the line on a whim. I think my reality is starting to catch up with alot of people who are used to thinking of people with badges as officer friendly, barney fife characters.

When I first joined the military eleven years ago, things were still fairly old school (there were a couple years left to go before the Canadian Forces made a conscious turn towards a "kinder, gentler" M.O.) In my unit, at least, there was a lot of sledgehammer leadership -- lots of yelling and verbal disrespect from the Sergeants / Master Corporals / senior Corporals etc towards those of us lower on the food chain. That was the way things were done; to get the troops doing something, yell, and if they're not doing it fast enough or properly, yell louder and start swearing and call people "numbnuts" and so on. I wouldn't say any of it was actually abusive (you'd have to go back before my time for that), but the model basically was "to get troops to get the job done, apply unpleasantness".

Anyway, when I was in positions of leadership for the first several years I was loud and snarky (just like everybody else) and I never had been like that before. I wasn't power-tripping either -- I didn't enjoy it, although after awhile I did get good at it. But after those first years I realized that I didn't like doing it that way, which was also about the time I slowly cottoned on to the fact that there were other, less adversarial ways of motivating people. Also around then we had a large turnover of senior NCO's (Sergeants etc.) and the ones who replaced them were less old school and less irascible, so the entire tone of the unit mellowed noticeably in the space of less than a year.

So yes, I was more assoholic for those first few years, but that's past. I'll still deliver a blast if I have to sort out some troopie, but it's rare that it gets to that point -- they usually just listen pretty well.

EDIT: I now realize I didn't answer your question -- let me think about that one.

Ron Paul volunteer detained by TSA agents for having cash

Quboid says...

This isn't anything really to do with 9/11 or police states or anything. They're just doing it so they can make enough busts to met some target or because they're bored and want a power trip. It's starting operating procedure all over the developed world: there are things the police (or TSA/customs/etc) can not order you to do such as answer questions, open bags, take off clothes, things like that - it varies of course. If you stick to your rights and politely refuse, they generally try two tricks:

1) Request disguised as order. It can be pretty intimidating especially if you're alone around several officers as I was at airport Customs recently. They will do things like say in a formal, stern voice "Would you empty your trouser/pants pockets onto that table please?" which they make sound like an order but it isn't and if you obey, hey, they just asked, nothing wrong with that.

2) Escalate. Won't co-operate? We'll bring in the FBI and DEA, or we'll take you down town for questioning. Been caught speeding and the cop suspects you of carrying weed? They'll give you a choice of a ticket and a search, or to be "taken down town". This is often a bluff (bringing someone in for no reason is a lot of hassle for the officer) and even if it isn't, it's only a police station - except for making you be late, nothing's changed. Don't admit to anything and demand a lawyer sooner rather than later. Even if you've nothing to hide, there is the principal of the matter and anyway, you never know what might be around - maybe a friend left a roach on the floor in the back.

Keep alert. Don't say anything you don't have to. If in doubt, ask if instruction is a legal order or a request, like this guy does. Finally, be polite and restrained, physically and verbally. If you go beyond sticking to your rights and get angry, you might say something careless and you'll certainly piss the cops off and increase their determination and of course, if it kicks off you will get your ass handed to you, by the cops and then by Bubba.

YMMV. IANAL.

Officer Robert Powell stops NFL player from seeing dying Mom

That cop would run a redlight for any trivial reason that he feels . They believe they are above the law. In his mind we are all perps.
But he is on a power trip ,and reason is out the window. His thinking is no different then a criminal whose spun out of control and continues to do the wrong thing.
The police are out of control in this country. This video comes out on the day of the funeral for the four officers gunned down in california. I feel bad for their families, but shit like that will have less impact on the american people as long as their brother cops abuse their power.

Dropping in on a skateboard ramp is against the law

Abel_Prisc says...

You know, whenever I watch these 'cop busts skateboarder for something stupid' videos, I tend to agree with the skateboarder that the cops are being ridiculous. Skateboarders have been branded as spoiled little shit-heads (and yes, some of them are), and the cop usually approaches the situation expecting the response of a spoiled little shit-head.
And again, I generally agree with the skateboarders, because usually it's the cop having a power-trip. But in most videos, the kids make it hard to defend because there's always that one guy opening his big mouth, saying whatever insult and curse word he can think of, making the group look bad. And honestly? That's what I was expecting from this video.

But that wasn't the case, and thus made this clip baffling. These were intelligent, respectable people who rightfully fought their side of the story (like any good citizen should). Not to mention they had valid arguments and recorded evidence. The response from the officer and security guard were completely ridiculous, and it didn't help their case that they were dealing with people who knew what they were talking about.

And no, people should never EVER just take a police officer's orders as legit without at least questioning their reason for it, just because they're an authoritative figure. Especially if something ultimately seems wrong about the situation. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's generally best to abide by their demands in the end (little things like this are never worth getting arrested for just to make a point, in my opinion), but I absolutely recommend using your right to explaining your perspective as to how they're completely wrong before doing so.
It's just unfortunate that a lot of police officers feel that in doing this, you're giving them 'attitude'.

Dropping in on a skateboard ramp is against the law

ForgedReality says...

You are trespassed from the park. Since when can you use an intransitive verb as a transitive verb?

A security guard at a "non-supervised" park? He calls himself an "officer?" No, he's an over-privileged civilian with a power trip problem.

The cop couldn't even come up with a viable charge, other than "he says you're kicked out, and I don't understand what a skate park is, so I guess what he says goes." She just didn't want to be wrong and have her visit be a wasted one.

I hope the person shooting the video contacted Georgia's attorney general and these peoples' respective bosses. This is either a lawsuit, or both the cop and the wannabe cop need to lose their jobs.

That said, I probably would have just left right away and came back 20-30 minutes later and gone back to skating. Meh.

Fuck I hate power tripping, power-in-my-hands pieces of shit like this so much. That asshole who called the cops needs to be ejected from the planet. Also that cop is a fucking bimbo. Oh and I LOVE how he tries to make it a racial thing at the end. Cuz god knows every time you call out a black person for being a fuckhead, you must be basing it on their skin colour and not the fact that they're power-tripping on you. This is why I leave my house as little as possible, because the system is there to enable shit-wits to oppress you on a whim.

Road Rage Victim Gets His Revenge

budzos says...

Totally justifiable. I wouldn't feel bad for the guy in the red shirt if his spine got torn apart and his guts were spilled all over the street. In fact I would feel like all was right with the world.

What exactly is the guy in the car supposed to do, Marine? He's just had the fucking shit beaten out of him... he's trying to escape and the attacker JUMPS ON HIS CAR. The attacker's car is behind him, there's only one place to go. At that point I'd say all bets are off, red shirt guy is asking to be run over.

Have you ever been randomly assaulted in public? I have, and during my escape, anybody jumping on my car would have been in serious danger, ESPECIALLY if it was the frigging guy attacking me.

Anyhow, keep on keeping america safe by power tripping at the brig or whatever bullshit you're talking about.

Placed in Jail for Short Shorts

brain says...

I think there are two questions here. You can ask how she should be expected to dress. In which case, sure, she should probably dress professionally. However, another question to ask is if the judge should have the ability to throw her in jail over her wardrobe choices.

I feel like what is considered professional is a cultural issue and I don't feel like we should enforce culture in our courtrooms. Now, it may be a smart idea to dress what most people in the US consider professional. But the judge can do her job just fine whether she's wearing short shorts or in a bikini. We have laws on indecent exposure. If she's not breaking them, who cares? The judge should just do her job and move on. Who cares if she's "disrespecting the courtroom"? Judges that care are just on a power trip.

Police officer complains to his suspect about his sergeant

Psychologic says...

Most cops I've met are pretty cool, but it's the assholes on a power trip that give them a bad name. It's usually the assholes that make the news, so it's funny to see this kind of situation.

One police officer I know has the attitude of "if they piss me off then I'll find a reason to arrest them", so it makes me wonder if the people she works with talk about her like this.

How to Deal with Cops Attempting to Search Your Vehicle

ShakaUVM says...

A lot of cops have serious power-trip issues going on. As long as you act polite to them, you'll usually not provoke them into full asshat mode. Of course, if you don't stick up for your rights, that's sometimes just as bad. A Texas state trooper said he'd arrest my dad unless my dad gave him his SSN number (which I believe a citizen isn't required to do), and I've been held at shotgun-point by campus police at UC San Diego.
