An interesting response.

I hadn't realized that the life of black people in the South isn't universally known. It is such a stain on our history, such a cruel example of the Honors English theme of "man's inhumanity to man."

For me, that article wasn't about class warfare and voting rights. It was a portrait of fear overcome, and taught me some details about what it meant to be black in the deep South (you have to walk in A LINE when you meet a white person on the sidewalk???!!!)

Whenever I begin to think about this article, I start to tear up.

Which is interesting to me -- that that wasn't your take-away. Which means to me our shame isn't as internationally known as I thought. I think. Or maybe not. Whatever

I'm a fan of portrait view when the subject matter requires height rather than width, but this video requires more peripheral. YEESH!

I thought the Watchmen movie was competent rather than inspired. In fact, I thought the most original clever part of the movie was the opening credits.

It wasn't bad, but there was just no way it could handle the sheer depth of the comic. To be fair, I haven't seen the ultimate cut though, but well... I went with a few friends who hadn't read the comic, and they came out wondering why I had made such a big deal of going to see it. Then I loaned them the comic and they understood....

I really think the only way the movie could have been truly great would be to get someone with their own vision and go at it from a different angle. Terry Gilliam would have been interesting. It probably would have failed, but it'd have failed gloriously.

This is not like early video games. So much media these days is not only created on but also consumed on mobile phones. And phones are easier and more convenient when held in one hand, portrait mode.

My personal opinion is that this is the way things are going, as long as the devices retain the same form factor then they're simply easier to use this way.

Ahhh, good ol portrait view. Methinks I will enjoy this temporary, tertiary phase in media standards. However, gamers who awaken to this non-issue and cease to make it into an issue, should remember that early conversion of arcade games, which were in portrait view, had an uphill battle to recreate the same experience on home display sets oriented in landscape.

Modern mobile gamers should all position themselves to break this mental boundary. Dedicate a little bit of your brain's background processing to fight the power of arbitrary persuasion. We're still in a developmental stage before display monitors completely explode and offer full customization with morphing length, width and heights; not to mention geometric adaptation beyond the rectangle.
