You should learn a little respect... Officer says

speechless says...

I originally came back to this thread to apologize to you for being so harsh last night, but reading your response I just have to say...

The fucking guy FLED after the cop pulled up to help. What part of that do you not understand? YOU are the one having a problem with logic and reason and maybe just a basic understanding of reality.

There is no shortage of actual police abuse/misconduct videos out there! This is not one of them!

On a side note, you might think of yourself as being polite and reasonable but you have been condescending from the get go. And that's fucking funny to me. Good luck fighting with cops on the side of the road.

Officer Friendly is NOT your friend

enoch says...

what an odd dynamic here on the sift in regards to lantern.

many here (myself included) have seemed to put the mantle of responsibility squarely on lanterns shoulders,as if he represented ALL police....everywhere.

this is not only patently false,it is very unfair.

BUT....

and @lantern53 this is very important you understand this very crucial, pivotal point:

the outrage you see here playing out on the sift in regards to police abuse of power and authority (oftimes directed AT you) comes directly from a perspective on how we all view HOW a true police officer should behave.

we feel (i dont mean to speak for everyone..but im going to anyways) that those in a position of power and authority have to be held to a much higher standard than the rest of us.

why?

because they are in a position of power and authority!!!!

and to abuse that public trust.
be it by the use of violence or intimidation,is the greatest of all betrayals.

so when we see a cop abusing his powers,in whatever capacity,we become outraged and angered.
justifiably so in my opinion.

i know you like to poke the hornets nest from time to time and it gives you the giggles.
ok..thats fair enough...
but stop defending the indefensible.

as a police officer you should be the first one condemning those cops who have obviously stepped over the line.
i am willing to be that you have done just that in your time on the force.most cops i know do it that way.
police policing themselves in a roundabout way.

i have full confidence you are good at what you do and have built a skin so thick not much really phases you anymore, but stop defending those cops that are NOT good cops...they are a cancer on your institution and they make those of you who ARE good at what you do treated with suspicion and wariness.

so listen to those here who are telling you how they feel about the bad cops.these are not criticizing you in particular,so dont feel you have to defend every bad cop out there.

so just as you do not represent every cop on the planet, dont allow those bad cops define you.

we are counting on you to be better.

Authorities Seize Family Home Over $40-Worth of Drugs

VoodooV says...

so many components to this video. Trance's arguments may be worthless, but the video itself is great.

you have the class aspect. Here we are shown this nice upper class home of a hardworking man (which alone opens up the sub-argument of whether or not he really does work hard or does he just reap the benefits of his employees' work,) and we're supposed to feel bad because the police confiscated their house over something relatively trivial. Would you care if it was a lower class home? middle class? or would you just assume the lower class family are probably guilty and deserve it?

Then you got the whole war on drugs component, which is even more nuanced because heroin is a nasty drug which I would agree should remain illegal. But then weigh that against the idea that it was a trivial amount of heroin. Would you feel bad for the family if the son wasn't small time and had a couple grand worth in the house? how about a 100 grand? a million?

All completely separate from the police abuse and corruption issue that's already been discussed. This video is crazy dense with issues that need to be addressed

Call the Cops - Rob Hustle ft. Liv

The police officers could be heard yelling stop resisting ;)

VoodooV says...

Im quite aware of what his point was, thank you

given current events, A video depicting police abuses is QUITE relevant, regardless of how old it is. What really isn't relevant is the "it's not relevant because it's old" argument.

Sycraft said:

No I believe his point was that:

1) This happened a long time ago. This really isn't relevant today, it is 5 year old news.

2) All the cops involved got punished. Maybe not as much as you or I would like, but they all got fired for this.

It gets a little silly to try and drudge up old stuff for no particular reason.

The police officers could be heard yelling stop resisting ;)

kevingrr says...

Way to dig up a video from 2009.

The 5 police officers involved were all terminated.

This ended a 50 mile high speed chase. Notice when he tried to run over the police officer laying down the spike strip?

There are legitimate and current examples of police abuse of real victims...

The police officers could be heard yelling stop resisting ;)

newtboy says...

Another example of why I'm not fit for a jury...when asked if I have any prejudice I answer honestly that I can't believe any police testimony because they are taught it's OK to lie in order to get evidence or compliance, and they obviously don't limit themselves to lying only in those instances. They are so prepared to lie they do things like beat up unconscious people while yelling 'stop resisting', believing they are only being recorded on audio, already preparing the lie they'll tell in court from the first contact with the 'suspect'.
On another note, the secondary title "POLICE ABUSE BEAT A ACCIDENT VICTIM" is pretty misleading, this was hardly an 'accident victim', he was a 'purposeful crash victim', and rightly so.

In Soviet US, observing protestors is illegal!

kevingrr says...

Do you even know the definition of statist? You don't seem to.

There are plenty of real cases of police abusing their powers and local governments failing to maintain basic rights, but this isn't one of them. Post those and I'll agree with you.

Is California Becoming A Police State?

arekin says...

Hmm, so by your own volition, you got in trouble with cops for not paying parking tickets, and possession of a substance that you know is illegal (Not arguing whether or not pot should be legal mind you). And then when you got caught, you complain about police abusing authority? Cops generally just do their damn job, have some abused authority? Sure, but that is because there are some bad people in the world. I've seen a Walmart night manager abuse his authority, not because he had an abundance of power, because he was a damn jerk. What you are displaying is an issue with authority. Your own authority issues make you believe that those with authority are out to get you. I'd quote dalumberjack above, and let you know again how the cops are just trying to make it through another day, but you'll insist that your antecdotal evidence makes you right. So our cycle will continue. But I have one thing on my side, we all live with cops everyday, millions of encounters every day in the US, and we see a handful of videos every month of police encounters, some rather questionable about their "abuse". If their is an epidemic of dirty cops in the world, where are all the videos supporting it? Their should be a 1000 fold increase in these videos every month if only a handful of people actually posted their bad police encounter.

chingalera said:

Oh and arekin??? I got many a story where a cop, "abused authority for personal gain." -Very few of my cop encounters were the result of one's actions to the contrary. They can't help it, it goes with the territory they have created for themselves.

Is California Becoming A Police State?

gwiz665 says...

The police industry is like the porn industry - because of its nature, it has an attraction to bad people. Police as an abstract is just fine and necessary, the problem is people. People are idiots. People with power are dangerous.

I get angry when the police abuse their mandate, but very very often it's not them that is the problem, it's the people they are dealing with.

The Situation Room: L.A. gun buyback yields rocket launchers

Darkhand says...

I'm really not sure why everyone is making such a big deal out of it. They didn't have the rockets for it, just the launcher.

Everyone comes here and posts videos about how the police abuse the system and how inept they are. Then we are willing to believe the police aren't just holding a replica and are too dumb to notice?

Someone out there probably paid like $300 for "Military Replica Style Rocket Launcher" and sold it to the cops for like $2,000 and he's laughing his ass all the way to the bank.

Otherwise wouldn't we hear "Bizzare Rocket Launcher Murder solved!" No questions or not I can't believe they would just let that guy go.

Anonymous Responds To Sandy Hook School Shooting

Just vote the Mayor and the chief of police out.

This program is the result of a systemic problem. Voting in a new Mayor or police chief to fix police abuse would be like trying to fix the economy by voting in a new president. It's just going to crash, over and over and over and over and over.

Protester in conversation with plain clothes surveillance

dannym3141 says...

He was being condescending, perhaps passive aggressive - "You want to calm down, you do," is not a phrase i've ever heard said to make an honest point in the middle of a tense argument. Afterwards i even think he was trying to spark a reaction by being condescending because his threats hadn't worked.

These sly little fuckers ought to be sacked on the spot if they were police. Abusing power like that is the most cowardly, weaselly act.. only the lowest, stupidest kind of human being does that kind of stuff.
