Fox & GOP Freak Out About Door to Door Vaccination Campaign

luxintenebris jokingly says...

Irony abounds...

- The 'Freedom' or 'Government-shoving-it-down-our-throats' argument is killing them and their kin. The Brian Kilmeade[s] of the world are forcing their beliefs on others. Walking around with COVID is LITERALLY forcing your belief on others! What 'freedom' exists when your fellow Americas insist on being the 21st Typhoid Marys...or COVID Karens?

- The same stand-for-the-flag crowd are the ones carrying Confederate flags, and using American flag poles to kill Capitol police.

- They say they'd take a bullet for their country - but not a shot?

In any other situation, if the virus killed ONLY the unvaccinated, left others alone, then maybe it'd be a civil rights issue. It's not. (would test their resolve, and ours as how many morons would have to die before we'd drag them into the streets and give them the shots they needed)*

But Bob's mind is likely to change as Republican governors are now taking this seriously (not a political strategy). Think in MS and LA the red are moving to get their mutts fixed. Maybe, it'll get to the point you'd have to show a vaccine passport to use a public port-a-potty. Or the "Shot for the S**t of it" campaign. 'Tho BK's "Put a stand up at liquor store / grocery stores" is an insight to a Turd Reich supporter's mindset. Maybe throw beer bashing, get them drunk enough they'll accept the 'free tattoo' in the back room. Vaccinate the entire pound.

How did this happen? When following doddering old fools become the rage against the machine? Or a death cult become the flag-bearers of the 'Pary of Lincoln'? Less a party; more a wake. When did being paranoid become the drug of the masses? Was a time one would have to take a drug, listen to 'Paranoid' before ya' lost your f'n' mind! Now it's coffee and Tucker Carlson then they're seeing CIA agents in the shadows.

*yeah. I know. How would y'all work 'drag them into the street and shoot them' into the flow?

The flight that almost killed me

BSR says...

I just a love a good dad story.

When I was about 10 years old, dad and I went fishing down to the Delaware River between NJ and PA. We would walk across the railroad bridge and make our way to the top of the pier and fish from there.

Google Maps https://www.google.com/maps/@40.6891036,-75.204665,78a,35y,102.75h,61.26t/data=!3m1!1e3

As we walked with our fishing poles and fishing box across the railroad ties he would tell me stories from when he was a kid. Told me his older brother tried to get my dad to jump from the bridge into the river. My Uncle had done this many times but dad had no desire to try it.

He said my Uncle tried to push him off the bridge once but dad held on real tight to one of the steel girders.

He told me, if I looked real close at that 2nd girder over there, I could still see his fingerprints embedded in it.

I think I laughed for 5 minutes straight.

When I was 17, my dad took me to some cliffs south of San Francisco to learn how to hang glide. The class met at a cliff to watch experienced pilots take off before going to a practice slope. The first launch we watched took off, made a smooth arcing turn, and crashed at full speed directly into the vertical cliff about 150' high and fell. He broke both legs at the least, but survived at least long enough for the ambulance to get there.

Dad cancelled my class, I never learned to fly.

Rand Paul spars with ABC host over election integrity

BSR says...

If untrustworthiness is your point then how do you tolerate citizen Trump?

Just a rhetorical question. No need for a reply. Take the rest of the day off and relax out on the lake with your pole in the water and catch some fish. Life is short.

This points out it great clarity how biased / untrustworthy the media is.

The Art of Pole by Jamilla Deville

SFOGuy says...

Serious question: are poles mounted on ball bearings so that they swivel WITHOUT ripping all your skin off in a weird kind of friction burn?

iwastheturkey said:

Actually I'd say one's talent as a pole dancer is directly proportionate to one's willingness to use the equivalent of your skin sticking to vinyl on a hot day as a means of supporting your own body weight.

i.e. friction + skin + metal + 150 pounds = unpleasant to say the least

God I hate these assholes so much! Love it when they get arrested or smash their faces against poles when train stops unexpectedly.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Rolls Over In Small Overlap Crash Tests

wtfcaniuse says...

We have already established your experience differs from this in that there was no impact causing the roll.

citation for maximum/force time being a primary factor in vehicular CSI .

You're also making the assumption that the roll doesn't send you roof first into oncoming traffic, telephone pole, tree, parked car, building or whatever.

We saw a rollover on here recently that was the result of a pit maneuver where the driver died. Guess that wasn't an easy flop for him.

*personal experience crashing/rolling...too much of it

I'm no doctor, but I've been in dozens of what normal people would call wrecks/accidents thanks to off road, and multiple rolls. The lateral (to the side) forces in a roll were never close to direct impact forces...not in the same ballpark. It's all about maximum force/time. Rolls are nearly always comparatively slow, drawn out rotational acceleration, crashes are quick, near instantaneous. That makes an enormous difference. Rolling at 50mph, you might get hurt. Hitting a wall at 50mph, you're lucky if you survive.
Rolling looks scary until you've done it. Dead stop crashing is scary.

Edit: I once watched a truck roll 10 times at 100mph + through a fence...driver walked away and raced later that day. That speed into a boulder, he would be dead, no question.

Why This British Crossroads Is So Dangerous

spawnflagger says...

or... put a 4-way stop, where the main road (and cyclists in danger) would have to stop as well.

Or create a new sign "Cyclists, look left for arseholes"

Even if you don't put a 4-way stop, could certainly have a solar-powered (battery at night) LED "flasher" on the stop signs that would blink when detects movement on main road. A raspberry-pi has enough cpu power. Might cost $20k to install a pole to mount 2 cameras and solar panel(s). This "blinking stop sign" would be so rare, that it would catch drivers attention and they'll be more likely to stop.
(I'm not suggesting raspberry pi are reliable enough for this application, but my point is the computer vision can be done in < 10W, which can easily be handled by a solar panel, even in England)

The Amazon isn't "Burning" - It's Being Burned

diego says...

good video but a rather important thing he missed is, that many governments DO pay brasil to maintain the rainforest-

"Norway has followed Germany in suspending donations to the Brazilian government’s Amazon Fund after a surge in deforestation in the South American rainforest. The move has triggered a caustic attack from the country’s rightwing president.

Bolsonaro rejects 'Captain Chainsaw' label as data shows deforestation 'exploded'

Jair Bolsonaro, whose move to meddle in the environmental organisation’s governance led to Norway’s decision, reacted by suggesting that Europe was not in a position to lecture his administration.

“Isn’t Norway that country that kills whales up there in the north pole?”, the Brazilian president said. “Take that money and help Angela Merkel reforest Germany.”

After weeks of tense negotiations with Norway and Germany, the Bolsonaro government unilaterally closed the Amazon Fund’s steering committee on Thursday. The fund has been central to international efforts to curb deforestation although its impact is contested.

Brazil’s environment minister, Ricardo Salles, said the Amazon Fund had been suspended while its rules were under discussion.

In response, Ola Elvestuen, his Norwegian counterpart, said an expected payment of about $33.27m (£27.36m) would not take place as Brazil had, in effect, broken the terms of its deal. Norway has been the fund’s biggest donor, and has given about $1.2bn (£985m) over the past decade.

“He cannot do that without Norway and Germany’s agreement,” Elvestuen said. “What Brazil has shown is that it no longer wants to stop deforestation.”

This week Berlin had said it would withhold an expected payment of about $39m. Norway and Germany questioned an initial proposal from the Brazilian government for the fund’s steering committee to be reduced in size, and had warned against any weakening of the structures of the fund.

Grave concerns about the rate of deforestation since Bolsonaro took power have been repeatedly voiced by the Norwegian government and others.

According to Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research, the government agency that monitors deforestation, the rate increased by 278% in the year to July, resulting in the destruction of about 870 square miles."

while I do agree that for 3rd world ex colonies it is extremely tiresome to hear lectures about ecology from the US and Europe, who tore up the planet to achieve their status and continue to consume far more than 3rd world people do, Bolsonaro is dead wrong here and sadly it has to be said this is what the democracy and capitalism produce: shortsighted win-now, defer the costs decisions.
