Awesome Ghostbusters theme cover

Sagemind says...

OK, So who gets the royalty credit for this one?
Huey Louis sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism and won. (copied "I want a new drug).

So do the royalties (assuming they even make any money on this), go to Huey Louis and the News or RayParker Jr?

Dave Barry Likes Asian Slip 'n Slides (Blog Entry by dag)

Dammit dammit dammit. Duckman only scooped me by a few hours!

PS: I think "A Slip-n-Slide Made Out of Asians" is a funnier title. Feel free to use it.

Was thinking about plagiarizing it, but didn't want to step on anyone's toes. Too late to change it now, it's sifted. If I didn't have a thing for Asian girls, I never would have posted it in the first place.

ColdPlay: Did They Rip off Satriani

Duckman33 says...

>> ^SSIops:
I think the melody derived more from inspiration than blatant ripoff. It is possible that the two of them could have came up with the same sound by themselves, but that is rather doubtful. If this guy can sue Coldplay for plagiarism, then the Beatles should be able to sue Vanilla Ice for "Ice, ice, baby" ripping sound from "Under pressure".

Under Pressure was written and performed by David Bowie and Queen. Not the Beatles

I thought there had already been a case ruling that similar (or even identical) chord progressions didn't constitute plagiarism. That's why we have videos talking about how every song sounds the same and using a single chord progression to play a dozen different songs as proof. Now, if they had ripped off one of the many solos Satch does, that would certainly constitute plagiarism, but I think they can actually argue "inspiration" as a defense.

Did these comedians rip Bill Hicks off?

quantumushroom says...

Artigiano, you beat me to it. Well said.

I would add that whether they're really plagiarizing is in the ear of the beholder. Is it plagiarism if two different comics talk about smoking crack? There's only so much you can do with, "The cross reminds Jesus of bad times."

More cynically, I wouldn't say these dudes are plagiarizing because Hicks isn't around to accuse them of it.

Leary -- retired from comedy long before he stopped performing to do sh-t TV/movies
Carlin -- around LONG before Hicks
Kinison -- plagiarized Hicks by dying
Robin -- never funny; did coke in the 80s and still hasn't come down
Eddie Griffin -- my horse-face be Black...also, did YOU know I be Black?
Miller -- Old McDonald? Let me tell ya something, babe, the only thing that cat had on his farm was an OCD-mania for VOWels: E, I, E, I, O.
Black -- ugly dude with a tv show. Bet your ass he has to beg, borrow, steal jokes just to stay afloat

Stephen Harper's Iraq War Speech sounded familiar. eh mates?

ElJardinero says...

Personally I would rather bet on the speech coming from the same source rather than plagiarism. The same way some new buzz words suddenly pop up all over the place on Fox and talking heads defending the us goverment.

VideoSift 3.3 Roundtable (Sift Talk Post)

I'm-a-gonna go ahead and plagiarize a suggestion I made for 3.2:

Referring to this comment by doogle:
RE: Sharing tools

I notice that users can submit the video to Stumble Upon

Other sharing sites should be considered, and maybe lump in "Email" into a drop down of Sharing options - (I really like how they do it at the TechDirt website) and add other sharing sites as more can be integrated.

RE: "more inside"
Also, I'm sure this was intended at first, but I'll reiterate that the "more inside" cut off message when descriptions are too long should be css:show and show users right there "more" when clicked without having to take the user to a separate window.

RE: Leaving a comment
And I support being able to leave a comment right there under the video in the listing view, instead of having to go to the video link.

(I'll be following up with another from another time that may have to wait for VideoSift 4.0...)

Kermit's Reaction to "Chimp and Frog" Video

EDD says...

^It's not brilliant. The guy just inserted footage of the other clip in the original kermit parody. The result (substituting coprophilia with zoophilia, while the former clearly kicks latter's ass) is an unoriginal, plagiarized attempt at net fame. And that's not brilliant, that's dumb. Downvoted.
