J.R. Majewski…..ROTFLMFAHS!!! Stolen valor isn’t the best campaign. Dumped.

JD Vance….AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!! Suckers…he’s an elite. D’oh!

For all his “I’m one of you” “I’m anti elite” schtick he’s really a billionaire’s protege with more money spent by one billionaire on his campaign than any single donor ever spent on one candidate, over $16 million. Most if not statistically all his support has come from billionaires….they don’t support people who don’t repay them 10 fold.
His campaign is based on fighting elites and ruling class, but gets all his funding from those people.
Claims to be against big pharma, then hires a pharma employee to head his plan.
He complains about gas prices and takes millions from companies convicted of price gouging gasoline in California.
He complains about big tech stealing your data but owns part of Hallo which is a prayer app that steals your data and sells it for $60 a year.

Peter Thiell, his benefactor and mentor, is a billionaire nut that thinks the military should be in charge, not government. He is blatantly anti democratic, saying he doesn’t believe democracy and freedom are compatible. He’s given $16 million to the guy who SAYS he’s against elites.

MAGA candidates are being exposed as the total pure frauds and morons they are all across America. Your idiot movement is dead. 😂

PS- Trump is having more special master problems because none of the companies that electronically host discovery documents for cases like this (e-discovery vendors) will contract with Trump because they all expect him to not pay them. This means the government will be forced to contract with them and have the judge force Trump to pay or be in criminal contempt.

Embed works for me.

It's all about messaging isn't it? When all other countries considers tax as a means to take care of its people, American right-wing politics call it Socialism, Communism, Facism and whatever else they want to call it (but hush hush on its own Socialism for its banks, for-profit prisons, the MIC & other Big Tech, Big Pharma, etc.). It's like America loves nothing but to keep throwing money to billionaires who don't need it. Feed the billinaires, not the downtrodden!

True, any government-run programs have a certain waste. But letting Big Corps profiteering run rampant instread proves, time-and-again, that doesn't improve the quality of living for the vast majority of the population a single bit.

Hayes: NRA "Good Guy With A Gun" Theory Failed In Real Time

cloudballoon says...

I wouldn't call that as the intention. But the NRA, Big Pharma, Big Energy, Big Tech, most GOP (and to be fair, some Democrats like Manchin & Sinema) are all about the big "Ps" - profit & power - before morals. Extremist terrorism as a means to more profit/power? Their motto is "Hell Yeah why not?"

They're reduced to reading 4 words in the 2nd Ammendment as their whole and only (constitutional & religious) Bible.

DOPESICK Official Trailer (2021)

luxintenebris jokingly says...

looks like a great movie that might not want to see. having been exposed to this subject matter - hats off to John Oliver btw - it just might bring up the past seething rage again. at least, won't have to fear spoilers.

Pandora's box opened with direct-to-consumer marketing. held it a very bad idea then, and find this - and the Sackler family - a direct result of that bad idea. recall the "Cassandra's" at the time telling that this would - and did - happen. along the same lines when the S&Ls went down. faulty ideology, clear warnings ignored, and what was said to happen, happened. the same folks are still following the same playbook today.

the AMA says it leads to higher drugs prices, EU voted it down for the same reason - using the U.S. as the example, and the operation data of pharmas prove that it is more about sales than safety or R&D. The cost is too high. In currency and lives.

[unless you're in EMT services, sell PDs Narcan, produce black tar, or rehab services - then it's job security]

but hope it's a massive hit.

do for the Sackler name what Stalin, Dahmer, or Manson did for their surname.

"This would take too long to explain?" Take a stab, you just spent 22 minutes beating about the bush.

Will bread be cheaper?

Governments and rich people will be able to break passwords. Three day weather forecasts will become four day weather forecasts. Pharma will make even more money. Duh.

Massive scientific improvements are fiction until they happen. Trickle down (anything) is fiction. We will never all own helicopters, while helicopters are awesome. This may be as useful to the public as large telescopes and particle colliders.

Not predicting a conspicuous failiure, but lets wait until the chicken hatch.

Living in a country that has trouble building and maintaining an elementary highway system gives you immunity to purely theoretical solutions to traffic problems.

Vox: Why drugs cost more in America.

Sagemind says...

Seven executives of top pharmaceutical companies were grilled before a congressional panel Tuesday about the nation's skyrocketing drug prices

Sen. Ron Wyden, the ranking member of the committee, blasted Big Pharma as "morally repugnant" and accused the companies of operating in an "unacceptable" way. He grew testy when he believed the executives weren't being forthcoming about reducing list prices.

"All of this other stuff is window dressing," Wyden snapped. "You are stonewalling on the key issue."

At one point, he pressed the chairman and CEO of AbbVie, maker of the arthritis drug Humira, which, according to a recent New York Times story, has doubled in list price since 2012, from about $19,000 a year to $38,000. Wyden wanted to know whether the company makes money on drugs in Germany and other Westernized nations where patients pay, on average, 40% less than Americans.

"Yes, we do," CEO Richard Gonzalez said.
If that's the case, Wyden said, "you can do the same thing in the United States."

"How is that not gouging the American consumer?" he asked. "You are willing to sit by and hose the American consumer and give breaks to those overseas."

Hail Satan?-Trailer

bcglorf says...

That mission/purpose is clear enough, the miscommunication is in calling that 'Satanism'. To repeat myself, "Satanism" has been well understood to mean the worship of the Abrahamic center of all evil Satan. Calling your movement 'Satanism', and then clarifying that you neither believe in nor worship that Satan and your movement is an entirely separate and distinct secular one is deliberate bad communication.

It's like going around calling my group a antivaxxers, but then clarifying we don't actually oppose vaccinations, we are just against the high profit margins of pharma corps.

When words already have strong definitions deliberately failing to use them and choosing your own new definition isn't clever, it's just bad communication.

Science Moms

ChaosEngine says...

@navlasop that's part of the problem.

For example, there is no doubt that pharmaceutical companies engage in some EXTREMELY shady shit. But when someone screams that vaccines are evil and "big pharma" is hiding the cure for cancer, it becomes difficult to discern the genuine issues (evergreening, etc) from the noise.

"Chem trails!
Global Warming!
9/11 was an inside job!
Aliens at Roswell!"

One of those is a real and serious problem, but if it gets lumped in with the orders, it becomes easy to dismiss it as nonsense.

We need to get better as a society at filtering the signal from the noise.

Sam Bee - Medicinal Cannabis For All

ChaosEngine says...

They’re being slightly hyperbolic about the medicinal effects of cannabis. Yes, it’s promising, but it needs more study.

And yes, I know, big pharma, profit motive, whatever. Don’t care. If you’re going to treat it as medicine, it needs to be studied the same as any other drug.

That doesn’t mean it should be illegal though.

Jim Jefferies : Drugs: Fun, But Not Always

Mordhaus says...

I would love to be able to get medical marijuana easily in Texas. But the bill they passed in 2015 had so many restrictions it is laughable.

You can only get it if you get low-thc oil. You can only be prescribed it for epilepsy and only then if you haven't responded to federally approved treatments. Assuming you meet those guidelines, you need two different doctors that must be registered with the DPS to both agree that no other medication will help you.

Not bad enough? The state has dragged its feet on actually licensing companies to grow cannabis to make the oil, so that 2 years after the bill was signed a couple of companies are just now able to ramp up production. Then they will need time to convert the product to oil and THEN the state will take some more time to make sure the product 'meets specifications'.

This stupid thing is you can already get low-thc oil on the internet legally that is roughly the same strength. Plus it restricts the most active compound, THC, so it limits drastically who will actually gain any benefit from it.

Since I suffer from two different ailments, both which have been shown to be helped by actual cannabis instead of the oil, I am SOL. I have to take a huge dose of Cymbalta and become zombie-like for a good part of the day, or I can suffer crippling anxiety/depression/fibromyalgia pain. The other fun thing is that the Cymbalta exacerbates my IBS, the other ailment I have that cannabis has been shown to help.

I could cut out a drug with horrible side effects and take a natural drug that could help every single symptom I have, with the only side effects being paranoia and the munchies. But then the pharma company would miss out on the roughly one grand a month that my pills cost my insurance. Can't have that!

PS: That price is for generic Cymbalta now that it is available. Originally it was closer to 2k a month for name brand. Another fun side effect? Cymbalta also fucks up your sex drive, sometimes making you impotent but more frequently making it nigh impossible to orgasm. So you can get erect as a male, but good luck finishing.

New Rule: The Lesser of Two Evils

radx says...

Seriously, he's taking a shit on "purist liberals"?

Remind me again, who was speaking up loud and clear about the danger of running another corporatist against a right-wing populist? Who was that again? Was it the strategists and consultants of the DNC? Was it all the celebrities who were „with her“?

Or was it maybe those liberal idiots whose candidate is, I don't know, the most popular politician in the country? Sanders gets cheers from Trump voters at townhalls in red states, and you're putting the blame for Trump's election at the feet of purist liberals?

Honestly, mate. You want to know what a neoliberal disaster looks like? Look at at the White House. Neoliberal policies are the breeding ground of right-wing populists. You think someone like Trump gets elected because of his convincing policy proposals? Right-wing populists are the answers to „centrist“ policies that enrich the few at the cost of the many. Everyone knows the effects, from widescale poverty, historic inequality, the opioid epidemic, all the way to the two-tiered justice system with fraudsters and torturers running free while not being able to pay a parking tickets gets you jailed.

Too abstract for you, Bill? Then look at Detroit. Look at Cleveland. Is that enough of a visual representation of what a neoliberal disaster looks like?

In this situation, they decided to run a corporatist, with the message „America is already great“. How was that supposed to resonate with the working stiff, Bill? The people whose despair is the main driver behind the opioid epidemic, as Case-Deaton has shows us in such detail. Who had the glorious idea to run exclusively on identity politics and ignore the economic plight of the lower class?

Was that the purist liberals, Bill?

Did the purist liberals run a campaign whose own people, if „Shattered“ contains any truth at all, described it as nothing short of a disaster? Even Clinton's own people didn't seem to know why she was running, and were toying with the idea of just going with „it's her turn“. Seriously, the way they describe Clinton's paranoia and refusal to interact with her own staff makes it sound like her campaign was not much less of a clusterfuck than Trump's presidency, from an organizing point of view.

But yeah, go ahead and blame the purist liberals. And Comey, while you're at it. And Russia. And Jill Stein. And fake news. And WikiLeaks. And sexism. Anything but the DNC and their corporate candidate.

Let me know when you're done, maybe then we can have a proper post-mortem of how the Democrats managed to lose the White House, Congress, most state legislatures and Governorships. And we'll start from the top, because we have a saying in German: „der Fisch stinkt vom Kopf her“. Maybe you can get an option to vote against Wall Street, against the war on drugs, against big pharma, against the MIC, and against the destruction of our biosphere. Because you sure as hell didn't have one this time.
