Great Trick by Piff the Dragon on Penn & Teller's Fool Us

Great Trick by Piff the Dragon on Penn & Teller's Fool Us

arghness says...

People do manage to fool them sometimes and get to go on stage in Vegas. Penn and Teller also sometimes tell everyone how a trick is done. I think that they decide if it's something unique or not. This one was something that they seemed to think was very clever, so they didn't explain it.

They also have Penn and Teller perform a trick at the end of each show. I prefer the shows with just Penn and Teller doing magic, but this series still blows away "The Magicians" on BBC One. That was a terrible magic show with B-list celebrities as magicians/assistants that was aired shortly after the first Fool Us on ITV in January.

I've tried to avoid watching it as anything on ITV1 is a pile of tosh. Here instead of seeing Penn and Teller perform they judge magic and variety acts?? - <headslap>.

Granted this guy was entertaining but the crux of the show is handled with them looking at a piece of paper to decide if they were fooled? More than lame.

Rabbi faces off with Anti-Circumcision Crusader

I would say the parents are materialistic for doing something like piecing their child's ears, but hey, we are speaking about Americans...

However, I would not say piecing your baby's ear is equivalent to circumcision. An adequate comparison would be removing the earlobe from a baby's ear completely. After all, who needs the extra skin? And we both know Gundam, that is definitely illegal.

Secondly, you have no idea what nerves do to the brain when functioning to trauma--even when unremembered. If a baby is beaten until they are two-ish, remember nothing of the beatings and are otherwise healthy, don't you still think his/her brain will actually form based on its experiences? I do. You read to a child, his brain actually grows differently than when you would not. You chop off his dick's skin...

Lastly, you can pull out earrings. How the fuck is my scar ring supposed to be fixed? Or for that matter, what about those with really botched, fucked up shit?

Just to echo what I wrote on the Penn and Teller Sift regarding circumcision:
I feel it's a cosmetic choice. It's not a crime to pierce your kid's ears when they are born--and that's done without anesthetic. There are people who clearly have medical benefits from having it done (see nanrod's comment at the Penn and Teller video) and if it's done at a hospital anesthetic will often be used so that it's not nearly as traumatic as the pundits are making it out to be. Even if anesthetic ISN'T used, no child ever remembers the experience. If you belong to a culture that supports male circumcision and want your kid to fit into that group then by all means, have it done. It's not going to do any permanent damage to him. And if he really, really wishes you hadn't done it, it can be undone.
I agree with DerHasisttot, legislating this is just stupid. Even if it passes, it won't be seen as anything except an anti-Semitic attack and--unless some new compelling medical research appears that shows it is harmful to have the procedure done--will likely be overturned. Educate people about the truth--that for most people it's medically unnecessary and let them decide for themselves how they want to raise their kids.

Hay nice post. I had no idea this can be genetic. Better get my 2 year old checked up so he doesn't have to go trough what I went through at 24. That was some of the most physically painful memories of my life.

In reply to this comment by nanrod:
Here's my anecdotal two bits worth. There is a condition called phimosis (abnormally tight foreskin) which runs in my family. It can lead to chronic infections of the foreskin, urinary tract infections, kidney infections and ultimately lead to loss of kidney function. None of these are guaranteed to happen but they can't be predicted. My father was not circumcised at birth but required the procedure at the age of 15. He swore then that no son of his would go through the same thing so me and 3 brothers were circumcised. When my son was born we decided against it after much research but again he had to be circumcised at 9. Bottom line if a parent opts for circumcision for family medical reasons they shouldn't be condemned or criticized, but lacking a family history like mine I see no compelling reason for it.

Other than aesthetics, of course, uncut dicks are ugly.

How can you hurt a child, hear that screaming, and still think it's a good idea?

Science aside, it's the same reason as using a needle for injection on kids. It hurts, but it's for their own good. The action is misguided perhaps, but the intention is not evil.
