Super Kind: LA Metro PSA

Typical PC culture reducing the issue to identity politics. Is it ever valid for a norm to criticize a furry, even when he's throwing his rainbow corn all over?

Steve Jobs Foretold the Downfall of Apple!

ulysses1904 says...

I supported the Macs in offices and graphics departments for about 15 years and was a big advocate. Apple used to have a commercial where they compared the stacks of manuals you needed to run a PC, with the small booklet that came with the Mac.

Now every update to iTunes makes me cringe, the GUI is like a cockpit and I feel like I need a stack of manuals to do what used to be simple.

Liberal Redneck - Virginia is for Lovers, not Nazis

newtboy says...

Like the cheeto in chief, you may not even realize you're standing with the Nazis, but make no mistake, they see it and understand.
Edit: if you want them to stand alone, you, and the exalted leader need to do a MUCH better job of both distancing yourselves and being clear they are alone in their levels of evil and bile, not state plainly that they are standing on a morality scale right next to some pc thugs (ugly as they may be, pc thugs don't advocate mass murders/genocides).
The KKK, neonazis, and alt right are absolutely on your Republican team, you can't wash your hands of them now after they voted with you because Trump's plan and statements mirrored theirs.

Edit: I may have misread you. Are you saying the republican "team" isn't on America's side? Because I'm saying the KKK and Nazis are undeniably Trump Republicans.

I refuse to acknowledge that ridiculous term....but I absolutely don't stand with the far left. I've said my entire adult lifetime that I would vote republican if only they would...but republicans today don't resemble the party I would have joined. They turned pro war, anti thought, pro spend, anti tax, pro debt, anti responsibility, pro corporation, anti citizen, pro oil, anti progress....I could go on but why?

Um...duh Bob, then you still had it badly wrong. Anti first amendment is still antifa, not anfta.

Actually, I do have fond memories of Berkeley, because I lived there in the 80's, not because I'm a leftist fascist.

Yes, he disavowed them, and in the same breath defends them and lumps his political enemies in with them, as if they're equally evil.
The media isn't saying he didn't say they're bad, it's saying he clearly didn't mean it.

If anti Nazi, anti fascist is the wrong side, color me proudly wrong.

I want you in that slinky black backless mini dress and a pushup bra please. I can't wait.

My Newt, let me bow down to the Oh Great Sage of the Sift.. OGSOTH..

I stand for neither.

The KKK and the team are NOT on our side. Not on your side either. They stand alone.

But you squarely stand with the alt left. Next time your out protesting, wear your yellow dress so I can pick you out on the YouTube vids. You make your mother proud. Ill be watching.

Believe the bias of the fake news -- keep it up -- You and your ilk are the party of evil and debauchery. These are not American values.

PS: It's ANTIFA, I new you would correct that -- because you are so smug and arrogant....OGSOTH... Where I come from It's short for ANTI First Amendment.

Conservatives can not say a word with out these radicals showing up in masks , (so they don't shame their parents) and clubs .. Can you say Berkley? I bet you only have fond memories-- Bully

Don't kid yourself The left are the radicals of society and bloody its citizens that stand opposed to liberal ideas. Bullies.

Counter Protest Attacked In Charlottesville, Va

newtboy says...

I agree, but that's why the antifa people do far more harm than good, even though their stated intentions may be good their methods aren't.

They allow it to be framed as a choice between actually violent Nazis/right and actually violent PC fascists/left. (This couldn't be better for the Nazis, as the extreme right is far larger, older, better prepared, with far more resources than the extreme left and I think they're orgasmic they're managing to turn the national narrative into a battle of extremist ideals.)

I think that's the moral relativism being attempted, and no reasonable person wants either choice.
All that said, I also think there isn't really a choice to be made between the two, but I still firmly refuse both.

ChaosEngine said:

If the choice is between a few people on the left being upset about trigger warnings, etc and ACTUAL FUCKING NAZIS, then they're isn't a choice to be made.

There's no moral relativism here. "Gee, Nazis are bad and all, but some transgender people demanded to be treated as the gender they choose" WTF??

New New New New Doctor: 13 deals with being a lady.

NaMeCaF says...

"You're still white aren't you?"

Never any pleasing the PC lefty crowd is there. They wont be happy until the Doctor is a middle age, black, transgender, midget woman with a prosthetic leg and suffers from aspergers.

The 7th Guest: Official Trailer

I don't have privileges to promote this but man, you made me think back to the olden days. For years, I had only a PC speaker, and all my friends had an AdLib or Sound Blaster. The day I got a ProAudio Spectrum 16 was the day I discovered just how much I'd been missing out on all those years. King's Quest and Commander Keen never sounded so good.

I still have software boxes. The oldest one is Firehawk, Thexder 2, which my parents kept in my old toy box that I discovered several years ago!

Alone In The Dark's First Scene/Level Walkthrough

The 7th Guest: Official Trailer

ant says...

Yeah! Original Alone in the Dark 1 was awesome. I remember playing its demo on my IBM PS/2 model 30 286 10 Mhz desktop PC! It was scary.

ForgedReality said:

First, it says "six guests were invited..." then later it's like, "when all the 7 guests have gathered..." Is that an error or am I missing something?

I do remember this game, but I don't remember playing it. Alone in the Dark was more my thing. And Star Control II.

According to my http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/toys.html history, I got my first CD-ROM drive (2X speed) in 12/1993. I remember buying game CDs for Rebel Assault, Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn), etc. It was awesome.

Did anyone play 11th Guest, the sequel? I played that on Computer City(?)'s computer demo PC. It was OK.

cloudballoon said:

Ah...the 7th Guest. Back in those days almost every PC makers are bundling this game and/or Myst to up-sell their CD-ROM drives.

the problem with too much empathy

eric3579 says...

This may be true sometimes but peoples lack of empathy (which is growing in the US imo) is a FAR greater problem for us than the few places empathy and pc culture has run amuck. Also this is such a huge topic and very nuanced. Most all things in life turned up to 11 become problematic. I surely don't think empathy is anywhere near that point overall. Matter of fact i see countries with more empathetic polices towards it's people have happier healthier better lives than us here in the good ol USA. Im probably rambling now. Too big a subject for a comment thread. Makes my head race out of control.

Stranger Things | Season 2 "Thriller" Trailer

And the Thirteen Doctor Is...

ChaosEngine says...

The last season was kinda average. Capaldi is great, but he hasn't been given enough to do, with a few notable exceptions (see his utterly amazing anti-war speech in the Zygon Inversion).

The bigger change here is less about Jodie Whittaker and more about Stephen Moffat stepping down as showrunner.

That said, I'm excited for this new doctor. First up, I like Whittaker as an actor. Second, I think a female Doctor will be interesting and finally, I have already gotten a seasons worth of amusement from butthurt MRA snowflakes whinging about "PC" or "SJWs" ruining Dr Who, despite the fact that we've already seen Time Lords change gender in show at least twice now.

I kind of lost interest a few seasons back. There were still good episodes but for whatever reason I just wasn't into it overall anymore. Has it jumped the shark or is it just me?

RANT: 20 Things Your IT Guys Want You to Know

ulysses1904 says...

Damn, sorry to hear that. I could go off on a frothing at the mouth rant at how bad it was, what we went through. To save money our original company, a nationwide US health insurance company, outsourced us right at merit raise time (nice touch, a-holes) to an off-shore company that would probably only ever meet expectations running an assembly line operation for building PCs.

They were out of their league taking over level 1 and 2 operations for a large company, which was already working through the pains of merging with other companies they had acquired. Instead of inspiring the legacy workers to stick around to make the transition work, their attitude was we were lucky the host company insisted we get first crack to reapply for "our" jobs. Like it was all one big assembly line and we could be easily replaced with someone with an A+ cert for $11\hr. The equivalent of pulling up to a storefront and having IT landscapers jump in the back of a pickup truck to work that day. Might work for an assembly line but not for a complex embedded IT infrastructure with 1001 local support quirks. They were completely clueless.

Add insult to injury, their internal processes were so bad, over the course of a year they asked us continually to remind them of the phone# of the iPhone they gave us and the serial# of the laptop they gave us. At least half a dozen times, it was fucking absurd. And when we were offered an incentive to help reduce the ticket log backup, they mailed unsigned money orders to fictional home addresses they had on record for us. With the stamp on the wrong part of the envelope for those lucky enough to receive their unsigned money orders. You had the option of mailing the money order back to get it signed (good luck getting it back) or committing a felony to get the money you legally earned, by not using the first option. Took me 7 months to finally get my money order, who knows where they originally mailed it. Their indifference during this whole mess was staggering, you had to badger management and HR like they were a deadbeat drunk brother-in-law who owes you money.

And they kept putting off the review\raise process until they finally offered us 50 cents an hour for the highest performers. I gave my notice the next day.

Sorry for the rant, it was such a colossal failure on all fronts, except no doubt for the amount the host company saved on IT during that time. But of course nobody is interested in capturing the countless hours of downtime and lost productivity introduced by these IT cost "savings". Last I heard they were putting the contract back out to bid before the scheduled end of the current contract, which doesn't surprise me. What a freaking waste.

I hope you find work soon, Ant.
