Amish response to covid

spawnflagger jokingly says...

The Amish must have better immunity because they walk barefoot in cow feces all the time. (speaking for those in northeastern Ohio - maybe Lancaster is different).

And they've been practicing social-distancing from outsiders for decades (hence inbreeding being a real problem).

Excellent work-ethic though. maybe it's "idle hands are the devil's playground" mentality, but I could definitely see why they wouldn't want to shut down during covid.

When massive solar flares kill the grid and fry most computers on Earth, the Amish will be just fine. The rest of us "English" will be in chaos.

Louis CK - Being Single

The part about the 9 dudes in striped button ups that want to get fucked with one short dude following closely behind instantly brought a mental picture of Boston. I didn't even know he was from Boston. But, yeah, that pretty much describes all I saw in Boston when I lived there for 9 months... and the part about cum dripping from their eyes and beating up strangers rang a bell too.

I remember my friends and I would go watch the guidos beat eachother up in front of some club that had a three story parking garage across the street from it. It never disappointed, 2am, people started coming out - people would get run over by cars, packs of jock, guido, frat boys would start throwing down in the middle of the street kicking someone in the head repeatedly as their bimbo girls screamed and flailed around in their mini-skirts. It was like Thunderdome for Northeastern. Boston sucks but Jamaica Plain, Cambridge were aight.

Giant spider crab sheds its shell

Retroboy says...

>> ^entr0py:
Okay, I can accept that some crabs live inside other crabs. But how the hell is crab inside bigger than the one on the outside? Crabs do not make sense!
Think butterfly wings coming from inside a chrysalis and you'll get the idea.

Trivia bit: northeastern American Lobsters are actually a much better deal just before they molt, because just after they shed their skin they contain a lot less meat and a lot more shell, so you get less eatin' out of them. Generally the harder the shell, the closer they are to the next molt, and the more meat you get per pound of overall weight.

19) 31,000 scientist have signed a petition against AGW!

"So what does it take to be included among the 31,000 "experts" on the petition? Well, according to the OISM criteria, any undergraduate science degree will do just fine.

OISM also wants to let you know that 9,021 of the signers hold PhDs. They don't specify what the doctorates are in, but they repeat that figure quite a bit, as if it means something. Since the group was nice enough to list all 31,000 signers, including the dead people, let's take a look at the qualifications of three randomly-selected "climate experts."

  • W. Kline Bolton, M.D. is a professor of medicine and Nephrology Division Chief at the University of Virginia. Nephrology deals with the study of the function and diseases of the kidney.
  • Zhonggang Zeng is one of the 9,000 with a PhD. He is a professor of mathematics at Northeastern Illinois University. His most recent publication is entitled "Computing multiple roots of inexact polynomials."
  • Hub Hougland is a dentist in Muncie, Indiana. He was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame last year.

Okay bcglorf, while the CIA may never been in direct contact with Bin Laden, it spent up to $630 million a year funding the Afghan Mujahideen.
I don't want to waste any more of my time, but you clearly need to learn more about the Soviet war in Afghanistan and Al-Qaeda.

No, I'm actually quite familiar. You just need to be more honest. Funding the Mujahideen does not equal creating Osama. You are leaving out many of leaps of logic to get to:"Osama was created to serve your own economic interest." I simply chose not to dignify such tripe with an in depth rebuttal.

"but to say New York is somehow more indicative of "Traditional American Values" than Little Town America because it was attacked by terrorists is kinda silly."
Where in his talk did he say or imply that? You're confusing the issue. His point was that cities are just as important as small towns.

Right near the end, "if New York City is good enough for Osama B. L., then it better be fucking good enough you". By inference, he's saying that city values are only what counts because they have more people, when in fact it was just a bigger target.

Bill Maher - New Rules 9/12/08

9058 says...

Well though he has a habit of delivering his point in a very dickish way and personifies that snooty eastern "elite" image while doing so, i still think the basic point is very true. Americans dont know what America was founded on, so in a sense the most patriotic Americans might not know what America is. As a person who has lived in multiple southern states most of my life (and one northeastern one) i can say that its true that the south and the west have this idea that the New England states especially have always tried to fuck this country up and its those damn people who will ruin us. They see themselves as the true Americans and make comments like "American started in the South". I think somehow they have confused the civil war with the revolutionary war and see those damn Yankees as the problem, and not to bring Ron Paul into another discussion (since he is a TRUE Conservative) but the present day Republican party who loves those red states and touts themselves as "conservatives" and keeping the country the way its always been, sure arent following the Constitution anymore. I would respect them more if they just ripped it up, pissed on it, and lite it on fire. At least then they would be honest.

How to make an Angry American

joedirt says...

"Last year I went to Iraq. Before Team America showed up"

Dude.. ask any Iraqi which was better. Hell ask any foreign policy wonk that isn't a neocon, which is better. A secular Iraq or a soon to be extremist religious state torn apart by civil unrest. Just look at northeastern India or Pakistan (who have advanced armies and police states and stable economies) how fun it is.

The statement about Saddam killing millions is false, because in all instances it was condoned by the US and weapons (biological and other) were provided by the US, so it's kind of odd to be running around saying what a monster he was without first condemning the foreign policy that created it.

And just so you are up to speed with the rest of America, people want troops out of Iraq, which the Decider refuses to even think about. The impeachment has nothing to do with ending war. The impeachment issue is about "high crimes and misdemeanors".. which entail violation of FISA, other illegal domestic spying programs, misleading Congress with known false information, (in Cheney's case) disclosing the identity of an undercover CIA agent, violations of oath of office in particular perversion of DOJ regarding Congressional appointments, violations of PRA and using partisan email to conduct official govt business, using official govt meeting places and speakers to conduct campaign activities, such as Drug Czar (Surgeon General?) and DOJ to make visits to announce local federal program which just happen to coincide with campaign stops and speeches... Oh yeah, advising staff and WH chief legal counsel that they do not have to adhere to Congress subpoena power (it is absolute), refusing to testify to Congressional committee without stating a valid reason (like Fifth Amendment, executive privileged, Gonzo "i-cannot-remember" defense)... You can show up and say nothing, but you cannot refuse to show up. Likewise WH counsel cannot actively advise people not to adhere to subpoenas.

Trust me there is a ton more, but Munchound won't address or even hear what the rest of us have come to realize in this massive grab of power.

Ghost Dog - Way of the Samurai trailer

Farhad2000 says...

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai is a 1999 film written and directed by Jim Jarmusch.

A wonderful film with an amazing soundtrack. I have watched this movie and listened to the soundtrack many many times. The Japanese soundtrack is notoriously hard to attain.

The film takes place in a fictional Northeastern city and its environs in the present day United States. Forest Whitaker stars as the title character, the mysterious "Ghost Dog", an African American hitman in the employ of the Mafia, and who follows the ancient code of the samurai as outlined in book of Yamamoto Tsunetomo's recorded sayings, Hagakure.

The film's score and soundtrack is produced by the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, his first soundtrack production. He was later involved in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill franchise, Blade: Trinity, and other movies.

US and Japanese versions of the soundtrack album have been released, each with a different set of tracks. The Japanese release also has some songs not in the film. Songs in the film that don't appear any either soundtrack album include From Then Till Now performed by Killah Priest, Armagideon Time performed by Willi Williams, Nuba One performed by Andrew Cyrille and Jimmy Lyons and Cold Lampin With Flavor performed by Flavor Flav. RZA also has a small role in the movie, playing a camouflage wearing, cross-bearing "street crusader" counterpart to Ghost Dog's samurai. As Ghost Dog and RZA's character meet on the street, he and Ghost Dog bow and exchange greetings.

RZA: Ghost Dog, power and equality.
Ghost Dog: Always see everything my brother.

After the greeting they both pass each other and continue on their way. RZA is credited as "Samurai In Camouflage" in the end credits.
