3 Clear Things Everyone Should Know About Islam

NetRunner says...

I guess I'm confused. If this is true, why aren't Republicans converting to Islam?

Everything they said Muslims want, Republicans want.

Gays executed, freedom to beat their women, eye for an eye justice, cut the hands of thieves (or people who "steal" by trying to set up tax-funded entitlement programs), no abortion, no sex outside of wedlock, no moral obligation to be honest to non-conservatives, etc.

I suppose they're just engaged in Taqiyya themselves.

Inception Characters Don't Understand Inception

krelokk says...

I agree that it was a fantastic film. Your point of it being 'clean' and that being impressive I don't agree with though. Everything is clean now, everything is PG13ified now in order to get return business from children. It is a business decision for high budget films to get money back. In real life people swear, and violence actually causes peoples bodies to be brutally hurt. I would have preferred Inception to be R rated film because of this.

This was one thing that District 9 did last year that made it stick out, and made it feel more real. There hasn't been a full on well made R rated sci fi in 20 years. T2 was the last one. The Matrix was R rated, but didn't have any f-bombs in it. I think Inception is a better film then D-9 though. District 9 had too many logic flaws. It was the opposite approach to Inception actually. It didn't explain anything, or at least very little. Something defenders like a lot about it.

Not sure what's with all the hate towards Inception lately. It really is a fantastic movie. There are a lot of comparisons to The Matrix, but I feel that it was a lot less pretentious and a lot more focused on the characters and emotions. It didn't have the fantastic fight scenes or massive special effects sequences, but it didn't need them. To focus on action and visuals would take away from the plot.
What impressed me the most was that not only was the movie stand-alone, not a sequel, based off a franchise, or a comic-book movie of any sort, but it was also relatively clean. There was no cursing, no sex or nudity, and the violence wasn't excessive. It's encouraging to see that a great science fiction movie can be made while still being PG-13.
As for the ending, I think it's quite clear that it doesn't matter whether Cobb was still dreaming or was awake. He finally got the happiness he was seeking, and decided not to further question it. People can argue one theory or another, but the driving point is that Cobb finally achieved his dream.
(And comparing it to Moon, Dag? Come on, the movies are of two completely different types and both are excellent in their own way. The more quality science-fiction movies the better.)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

But it did have the fantastic fight scenes and massive special effects - but that's not what made the Matrix good.

For me, what made the Matrix a great movie was the moment that Thomas A. Anderson is sitting in that chair, after taking the red pill, and as a viewer you don't know what the fuck is about to happen. The moment, of him waking up in the pod, was one of the most impressive SF mind-fucks of all time.

I mentioned Moon because I think it's a good example of excellent character based Science Fiction. I thought the characters in Inception were completely forgettable. What were the names of anyone in that movie? I can't remember. But I still remember Thomas Anderson, Agent Smith, Trinity, Morpheus and even that little guy who ratted them out - (though not by name).

bananafone says...

You know, the more I read the Bible, the more I can't find the parts where it says "no sex before marriage." Sure, there's the "stone the non-virgin brides" verse, but that's all I can find.

Are you suggesting we stone Bristol?

westy says...

If you are going to use the bible as your moral cumpus then your pretty much fucked. for one thing its not constant and its easily open to interpretation what it actually says. its allso very clear that its as likely to be the word of god as any of the other religious books out there which is not very.

to use marrige as a bench mark for who you have sex with is a bit stupid , but at the same time just sleeping with annyone can be quite risky.

there is nothing stopping people shagging and still having something more meaningful and romantic as well especaily if they use protectoin and are carfull about it.

the whole marge thing makes sense when there is no contraception or protection against STD,S and having kids is a 1-10 chance of sex , obviously as it would be unfair for a child to have no parents.

This is why going by the bible is stupid , It was written in a time when there was no contraception and people could not control when they had kids.

by perpetuating this whole no sex before marriage thing you end up with more trouble u end up with girls taking it up the ass more or doing strange sexual things that are of more risk and should only be undertaken by sumone with exsperance and alot of confidence as to what they want or know what they are doing and the risks.

The only message should be ONLY HAVE SEX WITH SUM ONE THAT "YOU" RELAY WANT TO don't be pressured into it or feal that you have to. also only do it after having discussed it with them and once you relay know that person.

having said that im sure there are people who want to just go out and have a quick fuck if that's ohnislty what they want and they make that clear to the person they want to fuck then i dont have a problem with it so long as they ware protectoin and reduse STD pregnancy as much as possable.

Its all about honistiy and presenting things truthfully.

I said my peace, it's your decision. I think it's one you'll regret, but it won't impact me one way or the other. My last "jab" is to ask you rhetorically if it is a good strategy to maintain the same belief system throughout all your life, regardless of your maturity or relative wisdom. Go forth and do whatever!

I am not having sex until I get married either and I am a Christian.

That's what my high school girlfriend said.
On a serious note, sex is one of the most beautiful things one can experience if appreciated and not scorned. It's nothing to be afraid of; it's natural and part of our existence.
I am of the opinion (i.e. I can't back this up with fact) that "waiting" until one gets married to try sex would more likely lead to potential marital infidelity upon the realization that you missed out on part of life when you hit that mid-life crisis stage. When one's looks start to go your viewpoints will change quickly.
Please experience life while you can. Don't let a bunch of old men make up rules for you to follow that they themselves cannot obey. Please embrace humanity for it is, not what for you're trying to make it.

No can do. God says no sex before marriage.
