Oh wow, can't wait for the hundreds of "funny face paint on McCain" sifts.

You're going to have to -- that project looks pretty difficult to re-implement, and Microsoft Research isn't likely to give out source code or get it into a product quickly.

Please. They may not give out the source code, but as soon as they figure out how to put Clippy into it, it'll be in Walmart.

Nude Art or Pornography

Seems we have a problem. (Sift Talk Post)

^ Sadly enough, I have to agree with you on that opinion. I've been posting, shall we say, selective/obscure videos since I started posting here, and it seems if you give the people what they want you can just get by, but unless you have a fancy little icon of power by your name the videos you take passion in won't get the popularity they deserve. I don't expect to have obscure videos in the top 15, but I also expect a video of a friggin' baby monkey eating an apple to not have to be *begged. I know dam well that videos of that category FLY to the top when lucky charms post them.

(btw is that a mandala mosaic you have as your avatar?)

Ricky Gervais - All Animals are Gay!

chilaxe says...

Book review from Publishers Weekly:

A brilliant and important exercise in exposing the limitations of received opinion, this book presents to the lay reader and specialist alike an exhaustively argued case that animals have multiple shades of sexual orientation.

The book is broken into two sections, the second containing species "portraits" detailing recorded homosexual/transgendered behaviors. The main portion of the book sets out to reveal and, indeed, revel in the documented evidence to date that some 450 species engage in both sustained and occasional "gay," "lesbian" and transgendered pairing, parenting and play. Animals (both heterosexual and homosexual) also rape and divorce, commit "child" abuse and infidelity and can be lifelong celibates.

Human claims to uniqueness in this arena are shown to be increasingly difficult to maintain. The overall effect is to detonate the myth that animals are solely driven by heterosexual reproductive urges, as Bagemihl, a biologist, amasses evidence with case study after case study of species ranging from whiptail lizards to bottlenose dolphins, flamingoes, vampire bats and giraffes.

But his book offers more than a zoological laundry list. Biologists who have long classified these behaviors as taking place only in "abnormal" conditions or as "pseudo-copulation," "mistakes," "practicing" and domineering sexual bullying are frequently shown to be willfully ignoring behavior that does not reflect their own worldview or accepted scientific thought.

What might so easily have turned into a tub-thumping activist tract hitched to the need for acceptance of homosexuality among humans is instead elevated to a hugely inclusive, celebratory biological interpretation of the world. Bagemihl convincingly overturns previous inviolable "truths" that scarcity and functionality are the prime agents of biological change, and advances instead the idea that abundance and extravagance ("biological exuberance") are just as crucial to the mosaic of life. Numerous illustrations by John Megahan.

By "abundance and extravagance," I guess they mean, if it overall results in more reproduction, evolution can benefit from turning up biologically-expensive sexual impulses so high that in some cases it results in non-reproductive copulation.

Hagia Sophia Istanbul

The narrator needs to study history a bit more closely. Although Justinian was Roman, more or less, the Eastern Empire, but the time of Justinian, was effectively Greek. Greek surpassed Latin as the language of the empire (Note that all the mosaics and icons in the church are in Greek. The architects who designed the church were Greek, (Actually they were professors of physics, mathematics and architecture in a Greek language higher school). Agia Sophia, the Great Church of Christ was, as the language of the name indicates, Greek.

Finally: proof that there's an Alien invasion base on Moon!

I'm into Amateur Astronomy. If ANYTHING is on 'this side' of the moon. It will be instantly detected. Check this out. This image is the type of high resolution shot one can achieve with BACKYARD equipment.

http://higginsandsons.com/astro/images/Moretus-mosaic-08-03-07.jpg

Check that resolution out. If there was any base or complex. It would stand out like a sore thumb. Make sure to click on the image to zoom it into its full resolution.

There is no doubt that the US govt wants a moon base. Whether it currently exists or will exist in the future. But there is no 'alien' base. Japan has a probe in orbit of the moon now. China is getting into it as well. Any 'secret' base certainly wouldn't remain secret for too long.

Still, such videos are quite humorous.
