bill burr- the worst i ever bombed story

poolcleaner says...

Kind of reminds me of this band I was in a couple years back. We were booked to play this hipster library in L.A. (Yes, these things exist) and our band's singer/leader is stammering his intros and not playing to whatever crowd is actually there, the guitars are out of tune even though we spent hours preparing and tuning, and the drums are drowning out the rest of the instruments.

God, the acoustics in that place, and the look on the face of the person who booked us. Horror. Utter horror. I was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt with hair down to my tits, a look of insanity, me-against-the-world on my face.

Someone in the audience was like, "What the fuck is this shit?"

But I'm not Bill Burr and I' NOT in any mood to admit my faults, I just came back from 2 drinks over my limit at a bar around the corner, and I'm fucking done with hipsters. Suddenly our FOLK band goes into overdrive and becomes a punk band. I start smashing the drums with my sticks faster and faster, letting the rest of the band catch up, "Fuuuuuck you. You want some rock n' roll? Here's some fucking rock n' roll." Our singer is timid at first, but the guitarist is an anarchist and looks at me like, "YEAH! Let's do this!" Adrenaline and alcohol made it so I didn't even need to know what I was doing any more. We just played the same songs except faster and angrier.

People are disgusted by the sound and the entire place empties.

Later on as we're packing up, the guy I told to fuck off comes up to us with his pals and starts harassing us. Turns out, he was the guitarist of the band that was on before us. And everyone loved this guy. I stared at him and just said, "Fuck you." And he immediately replied, "No, fuck you!" I don't remember how many fucks were given but it was quite the juvenile display. We just packed up and left with "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" in our wake.

As we're walking to the van our band leader says, "Well, that went okay I think, you know given the circumstances, I think that showed off our energy."

How filmmakers manipulate our emotions using color

RFlagg says...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It'd be more fair to have left the music off and decide how it played out rather than adding music to reflect what mood they wanted.

To be fair, they themselves actually used music in their final example to manipulate the scene quite a bit, too.

the world is a bit less brighter today (Death Talk Post)

If not for schmawy I would have passed on by this site. Maybe I'd have been a digger or *shudder* a redditer. Oh wait, I am a redditer.

schmawy promoted the hell out of my first couple sifts and was like a combination bad cat / father figure to me. Weird combination, now that I reflect upon it... shine on, you crazy diamond. (Thanks for setting the mood, enoch.)

Highlight: I'll never forget the time he pooped in my bed.

Damn, I was feeling sentimental a month ago and posted on his profile... I feel really bummed out that he's gone. I really needed some words of wisdom or aloof cat behavior -- one or the other; didn't matter which. Listening to Pink Floyd and thinking about his death is making me cry a pool's worth. I have ZERO alcohol and weed in my house to make up for this sudden saddness. Maybe that's a good thing... I will remain sober in memory of shmawy!

"Death is but a door, time is but a window, I'll" -- oh wait, that's a quote by Vigo the Carpathian. Uuuhhhh...

*poops on shmawy's bed*

I did it in his honor! COME ON!

6 Things You Need To Get Right About Depression

newtboy says...

As I understand it, clinical depression is often caused by an imbalance in brain chemicals. My godfather is, in essence, the godfather of pharmacological anti-depressants. He's a brain chemist that discovered many of the chemicals in the brain back in the 70's-80's, and how they work with each other, particularly those involved in mood regulations. This eventually led to the development of pharmacological anti-depressants.
The real issue is, there's not ONE form of 'depression', not even one single biological form...there are many, and each comes in a range from barely perceptible to extreme. That makes proper diagnosis of which problem(s) one might have probably the MOST important step in treatment. Unfortunately, the diagnosis is usually precursory, and rarely involves actually testing the brain's chemical make up, meaning it's a crap shoot for the most part. Therapy can't help if you have a biologically caused depression, and drugs usually won't help if you have a non-biologically caused depression.
I only hope that diagnosis can catch up with treatment methods...and that treatment method continue to evolve themselves. Without both, many people have no chance of proper treatment/cure.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: LGBT Discrimination

ChaosEngine says...

Yeah, they do.

And funnily enough, no, I'm not tolerant of your homophobic, racist nonsense.

In case you missed it, the fucking Supreme Court told you to get over it. For fucks sake, Ireland (previous winner of the "most catholic place on the planet" 70 years running) legalised gay marriage.

So yeah, the game is over, your team lost (in fact, they got utterly spanked). You're just the spoilt kids throwing a temper tantrum on the field while the rest of the civilised world has gone to the bar.

Eventually, it'll start to rain, and (like you did with slavery and women's rights) you'll come to the bar and feel embarrassed that you made such a dick out of yourselves in the first place. Luckily for you, by that time, we'll be drunk and in a good mood, so we'll forgive you.

Civilized societies don't go around letting people stick dick up each other asses.

Funny thing about you liberals is that you are all tolerant towards other views unless its is different. And in this case all you got is slandering homophobe. What a pile of trash.

People like you are a minority and gays are even less. If you want to be gay, play gay, preach gay go ahead but don't expect real people to capitulate to your errors in thought.

Apparently the game is not over, not even close. This depate will go on for decades, just like the abortion debate.

Soylent Commercial

TheFreak says...

Name recognition and irony, I suppose.
My diet has been about 90% soylent for the past 7 months and I can't imagine going back. I've reduced my body fat, have more energy and more ambition, I'm healthier, better moods, spend less on food, waste less food, waste less time figuring out what to eat and when I eat the food I actually enjoy it tastes amazing.

RFlagg said:

I thought perhaps it was satire or something, but it seems to be a real product.... why would you name a nutritional supplement Soylent? I mean nobody during the naming stage pointed out the movie?

"The contradictions and costs of a tiny minority’s progress, long suppressed by blustery denial and aggressive equivocation, have become visible on a planetary scale. They encourage the suspicion – potentially lethal among the hundreds of millions of young people condemned to being superfluous – that the present order, democratic or authoritarian, is built on force and fraud; they incite a broader and more volatile apocalyptic and nihilistic mood than we have witnessed before."

LSD In 3 Minutes

Trancecoach says...

That sounds a whole lot like some kind of absurd "Reefer Madness" kind of "thinking."

On what are you basing that "feeling?" Leaving aside that serotonin is involved with mood (and not meaning or motivation) and that LSD's binding to the receptor sites increases not decreases the amount of serotonin available in the synaptic cleft (performing the same effect as any other SSRI like Zoloft, Paxil, or Prozac), there is actually no reason why any of the hundreds of successful professionals that I know who have taken LSD multiple times would express such a feeling on the basis of taking LSD.

If anything, your comment reveals a fear of your own mind and, having read your comments, I can't say I blame you.

JiggaJonson said:

Is the lack of serotonin what gives the user the "Urgh, what am I doing with my life? I need to get my shit together!" feeling ?

Why you don't harass the Queen's Guard

I find it best to avoid stern looking men with assault rifles altogether. This goes doubly so if their boss makes them wear a stupid looking hat to work. That's bound to put anyone in a contrary mood.
