That's quite likely.
I might liken it to some glass-blowing videos. There must be some out there where the technique is flawless but perhaps the end result isn't that showy or interesting. And the same with martial arts. The bottom line is I do need to apply some sort of filter even if it's only my gut judgement.

Well what precisely is skillful about this clip? Looks like a guy doing interpretative dance - slowly.

Thia guy pretty much single-handedly fast-tracked western cultures on the road to Chinese martial arts development-As well as being an extremely fluid practitioner of Wing Chun, he was able to transmute the art across time and space in his lifetime to what we know of today as the evolution of Kung Fu.
It qualifies dude, take my word for it.

Like some other submissions the problem is the skill is implied but not shown. I'm sure the dude is awesome but we need to see him doing something awesome.

I think in this case, to be the judge of whether he is doing something skillful you'd need to be versed in the forms he is displaying.

Ahhhhhh! Thaks mate, I agree whole-hardheartedly with your self-composed criteria. It is, after all, a subjective judgement that moulds any course or ruling. If you watch this with a limited background in the history of the Chinese martial arts it does look as if this old codger is lilting around his flat practicing some form of mime or interpretive dance.
This cat kept the torch burning on the southern Shaolin art of Wing Chun-The system was developed during the Shaolin and Ming resistance to the Qing Dynasty and has been passed-down exclusively through direct transmission from practitioners until this last century, when his student, Bruce Lee (who makes it look so skilful as to be psychedelic at times) who was able to transform the art by making it available to the entire world. Quite a feat for an old Chinaman who survived the Japanese occupation and the Communist takeover, both some very hellish times and experiences in the "against all odds" category.

The mans' a legend and that feeble-looking dance translates into his 90-yr-old ass clearing a room full of thugs with hammers, knives and sharp sticks!

Im used to the monkey for years
I like granny and saw her granny act the past 3 years
she's really hilarious
she was also with granny on episode of QI last year
this is hilarious

She was not funny on that Qi episode but I think it's because the format doesn't really call for ventriloquism.

Nothing really calls for ventriloquism, it's just not on.

She pulls it off. Just think of the poor freaks who try to make it as mimes or impressionists. Takes unique talent to keep ventriloquism fresh. Plus she's always cute!

Don’t Let Congress Use CISPA to Trample on Civil Liberties (Sift Talk Post)

JiggaJonson says...

I get so exhausted sharing and talking and fighting for/against causes that i care about like this. That's why politicians seem to frequently get their way; they have no other job, they mime bullshit for a living.

However, every time I hear someone talk about how they dont give a shit about politics it gets me fired up enough to keep going.

I attended a funeral this weekend and had a few cousins come up to me "what's up with your facebook page, is that like the government posting that on there or is that you doing it?"

"Oh it's me, I post a lot of things about politics"

"Why do you care so much about that stuff? I just dont even pay attention to any of it."

"Well, take what happened last week in the Supreme Court for example; Do you know what decision was handed down regarding strip searches?"

"No..."

"Well, the supreme court, as you obviously know, renders the final decisions on cases, and those decisions become law of the land. Basically what happened last week involved a man who was arrested for a traffic stop and was strip searched and held in jail for a solid week while the police were trying to figure out what the man had been telling htem all along; there was a computer error that led to a false warrant for his name."

"So?"

"So now, since they ruled against this man who sued the police from his city who arrested/strip searched him and lost, if you or I are taken into custody for ANY reason, we can be subject to a complete strip and body cavity search. Do you care about that?"

"WTF they can't do that!"

"They can and they are because people dont care about politics. Now fuck off!"

("Now fuck off!" added for dramatic emphasis and not actually spoken at the funeral viewing ceremony)

In short, yeah yeah, I'll help you fight your crazy cause you crazy kid.

EDIT: shared on social media and sent letters to my congress peoplez !

The Gap Band - "Shake" - (Soultrain 1979)

Trout says...

Love the Gap band, and this tune in particular! I hate to rain on the OP's parade (a little), but this awesome performance is actually just a lip-sync/mime along to the album track - as was typically the case on Soul Train in those days. So the band isn't really playing the tune here, just boogie-ing down while they pretend.

Still though, awesome to see those guys sell it, and in their prime...

The lesser known, but dangerous, mimefield.
