Why you should never pour grease down the drain
Find a recipe for tea biscuits.
Substitute bacon fat for the lard, and almond milk for the water.
You get biscuits that literally flake apart and melt in your mouth.
New Rule: The Lesser of Two Evils
"Literally doom the human race."
I used to be a global warming denier, then a skeptic. I've come around that it is real and that it is caused in large part by human actions. I do admit that I'm still a bit skeptical about how catastrophic it would be to do nothing. Doom the human race? Nah. Decimate the human race (literal/historical definition of "decimate" meaning 10% dead)? Possible, but I think unlikely -- extremely unlikely unless deaths by famine/disease are wholly attributed to climate change. Lots and lots of people displaced over the next 100-200 years if, say, all polar and glacial ice melted (resulting in a ~70 meter sea level rise)? For sure. But they won't drown unless they are incapable of moving away from the ocean at a rate of at least a few meters per year.
In climate terms, a 4 year presidential term is a fraction of a second. In geological terms, 4 years is absolutely nothing. If the (admittedly terrible) climate policies of any single person, even one as powerful as the "leader of the free world" President of the United States over 4 years could literally doom the human race, we'd have been dead a LONG time ago.
I'm not saying it isn't important, and that it won't matter at all what Trump does with regards to climate, the EPA, etc. But even if you limit the timescale to sensible human terms (say, since the Industrial Revolution roughly 250 years ago), another 4 years, no matter how bad, aren't going to throw us over some sort of unrecoverable tipping point.
@bareboards2, I have now reached the point where, while I feel bad for them, whatever happens to women and minorities is a secondary concern.
I'm far more concerned with the lasting impact Trump will have on climate change. You can repeal whatever barbarity cheetoh-face inevitably proposes, but it's entirely possible that his energy policies will literally doom the human race.
Commercial Pilot Meltdown
Goddamn I love a good ol'-fashioned melt-down, followed by an incoherent, spittle-flecked rant!
That said, I woulda been off that Boeing so fucking fast there would have been a sonic boom.
Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina Is On Fire
Crane fell? Steel can't melt at that temperature. Fake news! Someone blame Obama, quick!
NYC's Best Burger, Explained
I'll throw my vote in for American Cheese on burgers.
I make cheese at home and every once in a while one comes out with too soft and sticky a texture. The flavor usually isn't what I want either because the moisture content is too high during aging.
I started making pub-cheese with these failures and enjoyed the results. Then I threw some on a breakfast egg and sausage sandwich and it was better than cheddar but the consistency wasn't quite right once it got hot. So I experimented with other ingredients until I had something that melts well and is flavorful enough to stand up to breakfast sausage or bacon or jalapenos on a burger...whatever. It finally occurred to me the first time I made a grilled cheese sandwich with it that I've been making American cheese.
I love cheese, that's why I have a notebook full of my cheese making notes and a full-size stand-up freezer converted to a cheese cave. But damned if my homemade American cheese isn't the best thing to put on a burger.
Oroville Spillway Damage, Rebar?, Oroville Dam 2-27-17

3D Printing Stainless Steel with Giant Robot Arms
There has to be a downside to weld-additive construction. They'd have to do this in a vacuum or inert gas filled chamber to avoid oxidisation between layers.
I know you can't weld aluminium like this. Aluminium Oxide has a much higher melting point than aluminium, which is the main point of failure with aluminium welding.
Michael Moore perfectly encapsulated why Trump won
It's a beautiful place that's given us some amazing science, culture, and social advances.
All those things happened because we're the beautiful, figurative melting pot. Unfortunately, Trump is in the process of turning the US into a pot of homogenized white shit.
Sports is a perfect microcosm. We're good at so many sports because we choose people from the countries that excel at that particular sport. Kenyans for running. Eastern European or Canadian hockey players. Dominican baseball players.
I really dislike making sweeping generalizations, but I think the simple folks that voted for Trump never have and never will contribute anything culturally, scientifically, or socially.
Unless that culture is backwards and hate-filled.
They are (or soon will be) in the rest of the civilized world.
Most countries are moving forward in this area. For an example see Ireland (aka Catholicistan) legalising SSM.
If America wants to be left behind, so be it. I'm truly sorry because I have a lot of love for your country. It's a beautiful place that's given us some amazing science, culture, and social advances.
But if you insist on being dragged down by your version of the taliban....
I'm off to start learning Mandarin.

IPHONE 7 TEMPERED GLASS VS GAS TORCH
It's a thin piece of glass being melted by a blowtorch, why is this even here?
No Playing In the House
Jet Fuel can't melt glass.
This has to be the most easily faked viral video out there. No visual effects, just a convenient accidental recording and stock 'glass breaking' sound effect. I'm not going to pretend to be an internet detective and 'prove' that this is fake, but it seems so much more likely that it is fake than anything else. And of course the licensing contact info is right up in the description.
