Is This What Quantum Mechanics Looks Like? - Veritasium

Assassin's Creed Trailer

newtboy jokingly says...

So then, I guess we're just going to pretend the Super Mario Brothers movie never happened?

Price of Persia made a large profit, but would you say it was a good movie? RE movies have done well, but I would say you would find most critics panned them badly. They certainly were not really related to the early RE games, other than biomod creatures and zombies. I wouldn't put the RE movies in the exact same category as Street Fighter, they aren't THAT bad.

I would also say that Milla had somewhat of a fanbase simply from the Fifth Element, Dazed and Confused, Zoolander, and The Messenger. I wouldn't say huge, but I was a fan of hers and I suffered through the first couple of RE movies simply because she was the female lead.

As far as games based on movie franchises, I would say mainly only Star Wars and LotR games have been really successful, although an argument could be made for the Lego games (Harry Potter, Batman, etc). There are some others that have been decent, but nothing spectacular I can recall off the top of my head.

As far as the worst conversion from game to movie, I would say it's a 3-way tie between Doom, Wing Commander, and Street Fighter.

CRASH: The Year Video Games Died

SDGundamX says...

The years after the crash but before the appearance of Nintendo were Golden Years for my brother and me. We were picking up cartridges for our Intellivision for a dollar a piece (or less) at retail stores and sometimes for free at local garage sales. I know our game library was over 50 games at one point, which as kids we never would have been able to afford if not for the crash.

We also switched to PC gaming. My dad received one of the very first laptops (with an LCD screen) from his job and I managed to get Bard's Tale up and running on it. Some of my friends went the Commodore 64 route.

So after the crash, we never stopped gaming, really, and just transitioned to the NES when it came out. But of course games became more expensive then. We gave up on owning anything but the most popular games (Mario, Zelda, etc.) and instead would swap games with classmates to try out other stuff. Mom and pop used games stores also popped up around that time and usually we could trade in an old game for a new one with an out-of-pocket expense at around $5, which was around my weekly allowance at the time and let me get a new game once a week.

How To Play Frisbee All By Yourself (and other trick shots)

iaui says...

Well, this fellow is very white, frisbee golf just seems like a very white thing to do, and partly I'm channeling Bill Burr's rant walking throughout Newport as he spouts hyperbolically about white privilege and then there's a motorhome driving through that he refers to as white trash. This fellow definitely isn't white trash, but there's a certain blissful socio-economically absurd trashyness/kitsch to a black and orange painted motorhome driving around with a frisbee golf cage on it, like the world's things are but toys in this man's sway. There's just this feel that pervades the short films, like we're seeing another of the Winkelvoss twins at play. He reminds me of a friend in university who learned to play Mario Tennis on the N64 against himself, each hand with a separate controller.

He's just so absurdly (yet innocently) white, in such a way as to be deserving of light ribbing. There's clearly an ineffable quality that I'm struggling to describe but do you know what I mean, even partly?
