Ghost in the Shell VFX Behind-the-Scenes

newtboy says...

You still can...they are called 'Chūshingura' .
'The Loyal 47 Ronin' is one version you can watch for free with subtitles, it can be found on YT in 2 parts, part one is at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE9lG7G6t4E

Many are just named 'Chūshingura', including the most famous one, made in 1962 named "Chūshingura: Hana no Maki, Yuki no Maki" There are many versions. None of the Japanese made versions have dragons or witches, as far as I know. I'm almost certain they are ALL better than "47 Ronin", but I haven't seen them all...I just know it's true.

I would have still seen 47 Ronin if Keanu wasn't in it, but at the same time I probably would have thought it wasn't as bad.

Heil Trump

aaronfr says...

From an article by Chris Hedges:

Robert Paxton wrote in “The Anatomy of Fascism”:

The language and symbols of an authentic American fascism would, of course, have little to do with the original European models. They would have to be as familiar and reassuring to loyal Americans as the language and symbols of the original fascisms were familiar and reassuring to many Italians and Germans, as [George] Orwell suggested. Hitler and Mussolini, after all, had not tried to seem exotic to their fellow citizens. No swastikas in an American fascism, but Stars and Stripes (or Stars and Bars) and Christian crosses. No fascist salute, but mass recitations of the pledge of allegiance. These symbols contain no whiff of fascism in themselves, of course, but an American fascism would transform them into obligatory litmus tests for detecting the internal enemy.

Wesley Clark reveals on MSNBC : TPTB want to put you in a KZ

newtboy says...

I guess that means, according to Clark, we ARE at war with Islam, making any Muslim an 'enemy'.
I also must guess that Clark has missed the part where America is embarrassed and guilt ridden for it's actions against loyal German/Americans and Japanese/Americans in WW2, but he still thinks preemptive internment is not only acceptable, but the preferred method.

I have an idea that will solve his problems with Radical Islam, let's just outlaw all religion and inter anyone caught practicing it. Sounds like a plan to me.

Claimed Police Brutality - What is your take?

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Oh go fuck yourself you old cuntbag.

If @lantern53 told you wait quietly in his cruiser while he fucked your wife and daughter, would you comply?

Of course you would. You must obey all cops, always.

..You'd probably even give him the reach-around as a thank you for "years of loyal service".

Seriously, you two should just go ahead and blow each other..

Cause you definitely already got a circle-jerk goin' on here.

"Hey Buddy, wanna disparage some minorities with me?!"

'Fuck yeah, buddy. Let me get my badge and gun! You can help me falsely arrest someone for "trespassing"... '

bobknight33 said:

Do what the cop wants and everyone moves on. Right from the get go total lack of civility. Bogus stop or not.

@GenjiKilpatrick
I must admit that white privilege is working for the white chick.. Oh wait there is some evidence i see -- oh fuck she is obeying the officer.

Maybe the others could learn a thing a two on how to obey a cop. Have some fucking manners and listen.

Varoufakis strikes again. Moscovici's draft, supposedly reasonable, was yanked in favour of Dieselboom's (Djisselbloem) draft which was just the same ol', same ol'. So Varoufakis told them to shove it, and the press still paints Dieselboom as the big cheese in matters of economics.

It's not like we could have know that using the EU as a dumping ground for loyal but incompetent ministers might come back to bite us in the ass...

Though I'm not ruling out a failed attempt at a switcheroo. We've seen what they're capable of.

Why the 'Firefly' Crew Were the Bad Guys

poolcleaner says...

Nothing new.

And the soldiers of the Confederacy weren't necessarily the bad guys. They were people loyal to their states. Robert E. Lee sided with the Confederacy because of his loyalty to his state. Loyalty is inspiring.

Losers of wars are underdogs. We root for the underdog. Usually. It's a unique position to observe the human spirit.

They are like Ronin, emotionally fraught PTSD survivors living a waking nightmare, with no satisfying role in society left to fill. What can they do?

They will fight.

CNN anchors taken to school over bill mahers commentary

Truckchase says...

I wish that were the case, but Maher is more full of crap than most. From what I can see he's a sharp but overly emotional guy who gets a hint of the truth and then builds on that with conjecture. On top of that he feels the need to be loyal to a "team" (Democrats via campaign contributions) which in my mind further discredits most of what he says.

Overall though, I agree with your statement, just that Maher doesn't deserve the attention.

00Scud00 said:

I think it's because comedians are starting to get more attention than the pundits and they don't like anybody horning in on their action. For that matter I sometimes find comedians and what they say to be more truthful and even honest. Comedy isn't always just telling jokes, it can also be a way of broaching subjects that otherwise might be considered too painful or even outright taboo for many people, if you can keep them laughing they are less likely to punch you in the face.

@Asmo

You ought to be careful about accusing others of ignorance when you have to resort to googling "islam homogenous" and spamming us with the first links you find. Oh my, talk about making a fool of yourself.

All the PhDs in the world can't alter reality; personally I'd be suspicious of the intellectual credentials of anyone who wasted their career on so vacuous and puerile a subject. Every widespead philosophy will inevitably factionalise to some extent; this is hardly relevant where the objections are to its core tenets and universal beliefs. Remind me, which of the major sects is the good one?

Incidentally, I skipped over this before but the claim that there are 1.5 billion muslims in the world is an outright lie. Most of that number are muslim in the same sense that winston smith is a loyal supporter of ingsoc.

It's tedious to have to continually restate the case against islam in every discussion where the lazy and dishonest leap to the defence of an ideology they've failed to adequately research. Suffice to say that any liberal, modern thinker who had, say, read the qur'an, or looked into the life and character of mohammed, or talked to muslims about what they actually believe, which is never what they reveal to unsympathetic ears; would hesitate before condemning all anti-islamic sentiment as bigotry.

Comcast customer service nightmare

eric3579 says...

Also this because I hate Comcast:

"I say it as a loyal Comcast employee for almost a decade, if you have Comcast - get out now, you're just wasting your money. They're going to increase your bill 3-5% twice a year, it's part of the annual budgeting process even though our costs actually go down. The internet business (as in, high speed customers) is almost purely profit, and it's turned down on purpose like everyone here already knows. Comcast has DOCSIS 3 capabilities and the infrastructure to support it in most major areas (this means gigabit speeds, by the way) - it can be activated simply by pushing the proper bootfiles out to the modems. This can be evidenced anywhere they have competition, they can respond overnight."

One Of The Best Arguments For Deleting Facebook

Warmth- says...

NSA knows what's best for you.

I mean, surely their filtering algorithms have already analyzed a more accurate profile of you, than what your psychiatrist ever could? What with all the years of records of your internet searches, emails and videosift comments..

Seriously though, about this nice video, if you have a popular smartphone, no matter how you trust that fruit, droid or window logo, there's seriously no real guarantees that your activities are not recorded in whichever way, whenever. Any data on 'customers' is precious to these companies, or the NSA for that matter.

To be a bit cynical, I'd say that most people don't mind, they can't perceive anything strongly negative to come out of any of these privacy breaches. After all, so far the system has kept them relatively safe from the other ones, the evil ones.

To be even more cynical I'd say this hip guy, 10k likes on FB and all, seems to be quite smoothly riding the next generation's "My mom uses FB" disdain to .. I don't know? Maybe try to gain respect among this, certainly most sought after viewer demography, the younger generation, about to become consumers?

It could even be that he makes money on ads on YT views? But certainly Youtube, or their parent company, would never breach anyone's privacy, or make questionable sudden changes to their TOCs? Say, they wouldn't use the Chrome browser's or the Android OS's capabilities to use a connected mic to sift through recorded data?

Well, in any case, I've got to appreciate anyone who makes these matters more public and talked about, what ever their motives might be.

On another topic, as a loyal user of Google's mostly brilliant services, and mobile operating system, I was quite surprised to realize that I could see where I (or my phone) had been about, through their service here: https://maps.google.com/locationhistory

Luckily the feature can be turned off from the same site. I mean I'm sure it's off now, because I can't see any data there anymore..

Crazy Goat Lick-Attacking A Bored Dog

newtboy says...

That's not my experience with them, and I did have one.
Sharp...yes. Stinky breath... also yes. Unwashable oily stank, not mine. He washed up nicely. EDIT: Maybe the oily stink is why the goat keeps licking?!?
True enough, like with most smart dogs, most of them are owned by people that never work them, and that makes for a neurotic dog. When given a job they understand they can be great, loyal, patient, and loving. Great for farms and ranches, not so good for apartments and lazy people. So, "never see the full potential of in the U.S." is an exaggeration, "rarely" would be a better word to use.

As for your look, what I'm looking for is removal of the insulting, vilifying, often outrageous and vulgar additions to your point. They make it difficult if not impossible to actually consider your point because it's obscured by attack and nastiness. Because you have gone so far overboard with that in the past, many of us here have little tolerance for it from you now, and may even read it into your posts at times. That means to avoid the attacks back, you need to make an effort to not antagonize others for no reason. Try reading your posts before posting them, and consider how you would react if they were written about you or yours. Also, perhaps consider that your mother may read your posts and act accordingly, that alone would probably make you look incredibly better to all, and make discussions with you more positive....at least I would hope so.
Your response here was a good example of what I'm looking for, you disagreed, but did so relatively respectfully....thank you. If you could do that regularly, without devolving into 'flapping your sloppy c*nt lips' types of descriptions of others and their ideas, I would never complain, and many others would be grateful.
Being nasty doesn't help your argument and doesn't make your post clever or interesting, it detracts from it and eventually from yourself and only makes you look bad, at least that's my feeling about it in a nut shell....thanks for asking!

Oh man no-Airedales?? Another on the list of dogs you never see the full potential of in the U.S. because the average folks who own 'em never allow them to realize their bred potential. Ten notches above the Dalmatian on the sharp list with horrifying breath and that stinky, oily stank you can't wash off. Known plenty of Airedales and would rather not.

They can be quirky fun sometimes though, like a kid yer glad belongs to someone else.

I don't sleight anyone's preference for doggies unless it's a toy poodle or a a chihuahua fixation, abused to roam the shared space of humans without any manners.

What SHOULD my look be there newt, huh?

11 Questions Willy Wonka Left Unanswered

grinter says...

1. He’s a tinker. He fixes things, and sharpens knives
2. Someone who appreciates or is loyal to Wonka products, a fanboy.
3.He’s Mike’s friend.. the other questions are don’t stem from the movie.
4.He is sooo excited about the ticket that it has given him uncharacteristic strength (he’s obviously worn out after the dance). It’s a musical, stop being a dipshit.
5. Yes, no, no.
6. He’s doing it sneakily, the parents don’t notice (although some of the children later tell their parents).
7. Businessmen often use out of place, insincere physical contact as a device to demonstrate their sincerity and good nature.. and no, Mr. Beauregarde’s attempt at networking was thoroughly shot down.
8. No. no. and C’mon pay attention! ..and again, it’s a musical, although it’s also implied that the Oompa Loompas tend to sing and dance as they work.
9. No. Wonka and the tour don’t take the ferry when the leave the room, and there is clearly no way all of the Oompa Loompas would be able to use the ferry efficiently. and, no, no, no.
10. No. No one was seriously hurt, and the contract apparently had more to do with the contest (limited to the children) than protection from injury suits. Assault is not considered assault when its whimsical; it’s considered a prank.
11. Capitalist greed, and a lack of value placed on simple pleasures and imagination.

Dennis Rodman Sings Happy Birthday To Kim Jong-Un

bcglorf says...

Rodman says he hopes this shows that we can co-exist with each other...

How far is he removed from his situation? Kim Jong Un as good as murdered his uncle for power just a few weeks ago. Kim Jong Un is holding as many of his own people in concentration camps as the Nazi's did and with no better conditions. His country is the largest example of slavery existent today.

We DO NOT WANT to co-exist with the monsters that would rule in this way. I do not care if the man is really nice to you personally and to the friends and family loyal to him(at least until they 'betray' him like his uncle). He is at the same time, that nice guy to those he cares about, and cruel slave driver of the North Korean majority at the same time.
