That is one method, but it is possible to do it with a planted card rather than a full deck.

This is my little brother's trick that he tends to do if someone finds out he's a magician and asks the inevitable 'show us a trick then!'

When he did it to me it was at our parents house. He came into the room, put his bag (a back pack) in the middle of the floor and sat down on the sofa. He then turned to me and did the imaginary pack spiel, just like Rose does in the video. I choose a card and announce it to the room.

He then tells me to go to his bag and look through it for his wallet. I find the wallet and take it out of the bag. It's not a big bag and there's only one wallet. He then tells me to open it and look through the card slots until I find a playing card. I do so, there's only one card. Predictably it's the card I've chosen.

There's no trick deck and I'm pretty sure it's not a trick wallet. He didn't handle the bag or the wallet after he put the bag down in the middle of the floor and sat down.

He won't tell me how it's done, but I've seen him do it numerous times to numerous people. It's always the same method although if he's out in public he might just keep his bag on his shoulder rather than put it on the floor and he'll handle his wallet and show the card, but in a way so that everyone can see what he's doing. I've asked him about that and the handling isn't necessary for the trick. the method is the same whether he's handling the bag/wallet or not.

He's a magician who designs tricks for other magicians. He's worked as a technical advisor for magic TV shows, designing props and methods. He specialises in mentalism. He doesn't talk that much about how the tricks are done. He'll help me out if I'm guessing along the right lines but I don't push for answers too much. I've done a little magic myself when younger, but nothing on his level.

The trick deck is just one way of doing this effect, but it's not the only way.

Like I said in my first post above my little brother is a professional magician who designs a lot of these tricks and devices for TV shows. All I can say is you'd be amazed the lengths a magician will go to just to make a simple looking trick work. I think you'd be fascinated by it all.

The Magic Circle is a good organisation to join if you have an interest in magic. You need to be able to perform magic and be interested in learning how to do more, but that's all part of the fun.

An interesting aside about magical devices, they are never patented, as patent applications have to be made public. This means the devices themselves tend to be pretty expensive as the inventor may have only a short period of time in which to sell his idea before others start joining in. Simple magical effects (just the method for a trick printed on a piece of paper) can sometimes sell for hundreds of pounds. Everything about the magical world is strange and different. If you've got a keen mind and the technical know-how there may be gold in them thar hills for you

Love stuff like this. He's got some really nice little bits in there, bit's I've not seen before. Like Penn said there were some bits I caught, but some bit's that were extremely well done. All this needs is a little refinement and it'll be amazing.


For reference I have high standards when it come to magic (by which I mean I'm not easily fooled). My little brother is a professional magician who designs tricks for TV shows, I'm used to seeing very good magic done very well and this guy is up there.

Semi off-topic but the title "NES Zapper" reminds me of the NES Advantage my little brother had. For those that don't know, it was this controller that was meant to be like a real arcade-style controller with enlarged buttons & a true post and knob joystick. It had a big base that you could set down on a coffee table or in your lap. Here's what they look like.

My brother had it in his lap, probably playing Metroid or something, and being that it was wintertime, and prime scuff-your-socks-on-the-carpet-and-static-shock-your-little-brother-season, I scuffed my socks on the carpet and touched his hand as he played. What instantly followed was like a super-powered shock that I felt as much as he did (well, not quite as much...) It turns out that the NES Advantage had a metal base, and when I shocked his hand, it fried the controller(on his lap) and it basically electrocuted his wang. He screamed like a a little girl so I was, as you can imagine, completely thrilled with the results. Unfortunately my parents didn't see things my way and they made me buy another controller. It was so worth it though.

My little brother is a magic consultant for TV shows. He's a behind the scenes magician who designs tricks for performers and helps them with the performance aspects.

I don't ask him how stuff is done as it rather spoils things and there's no point. What he has told be though is that most people would be absolutely amazed at the lengths a magician will go to to get a trick to work. Also the simpler a trick is the more likely it is to work.

So, there's probably very little in the way of trick here.

I wasn't sure if you were serious or not, but I'll bite -

Everyone was a slacker at some point. When you were a young child you did very little to help the family. When you did start to have responsibility you didn't understand why at first and only did the things because you were told to.
Its a gradual change into a person who understands that certain things have to be taken care of for, your own sake and, the sake of your family. To think someones life is automatically fucked up because they are a slacker is disgenuine.

Are you implying that between say 13-23 you didn't too stupid irresponsible things that would make others worry about you for your own selfish pleasure? I doubt anyone could deny they were more selfish than not during part of their life.

I am not saying drugs are required to make drastic realizations. If your daily routine has little or no changes you will always think in the same basic pattern and it takes some external event to change this. It could be a new job, a new love, a death etc. Taking certain drugs lets you control when these changes in perception occur rather than being a slave to fate.

No where in my original reply did I say anyone (myself or others) had to depend on drugs to make decisions. I stated two basic ideas - drugs can help you to make changes and that everyone should experience them at least once in their life. I also didn't say that the single time the person did them would create some epic change.

Something happened to you that caused a strong sensitivity to what I said. Maybe it was me telling you what to do, maybe someone you knew used drugs and became a loser, maybe my speech pattern reminds you of someone bad. I can't say what it is but if your strong reaction is genuine then I am sorry to dig up such anger.

Not all drugs are created equally. I would like you to view this chart http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a5/Drug_danger_and_dependence.svg Notice that LSD has a lower dependency than pretty much everything, including nicotine and caffeine.
Secondly the average dosage is between 60 and 180 MICROgrams. Do you understand how small that is? It is essentially impossible for it to be adulterated. You could mix it with drain cleaner and and the amount you are ingesting would not cause damage.
The industry accepted lethal dose is 15,000 micrograms, which would be FIFTEEN PAGES of paper you would have to ingest. I don't think you could fit that all in your mouth

I am not convincing you personally to take it but be aware that a significant scientific breakthroughs in business/technology/science have taken place while the person was on some form of drugs. You should also be aware that most artists (both audio and physical) use drugs to create the inspiration for the works you enjoy.
One time I figured out why fire on the head of a match is the shape that it is and how the flame is constructed. Months later I explained how I perceived it to someone qualified and they said even though I lacked the proper technical terms I had gotten it right. I was very happy about that.

Like I said previously, not all drugs are created equally. LSD does not make you feel anything extra, it only enhances what you are already seeing or feeling. It gives you the ability to super focus on details you overlooked previously or zoom out and take a large amount of data in at once then process it.

I think my reply will be lost on you but hopefully someone else is reading this and will gain something from it. If it means anything to you I have taken acid only twice in the last two years.
