Supreme Court Ethics: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

newtboy says...

I wonder if the recent scrutiny of the tens of millions taken by these judges from plaintiffs and defendants in their own courts and the resulting outrage will make him consider this offer, knowing real ethics LAWS are coming as soon as Democrats retake the house and his fire-hose of unreported “gifts” is likely to dry up under new laws with teeth, this may be his only shot at continuing the lavish lifestyle he and the other “conservative” “justices” all enjoy thanks to their billionaire donors who buy decisions.

Note- there has yet to be a single credible accusation of taking “unreported gifts” (aka bribes) against any of the 3 “liberal” justices. No false equivalency to make here @bobknight33, none. The best the muck rakers can come up with is Geinsberg once accepted a trip she reported on her disclosures from someone who had PREVIOUSLY YEARS EARLIER had a case heard. I’m sure you will say that’s the exact same crime as taking millions from people with cases pending before your court and not reporting a dime of it or recusing yourself.

$354 million and end of any NY businesses! + interest. You think he has it? I don’t, not on top of the $87.5 million to Carrol for lying about RAPING HER.
Estimates say at the current burn rate (paying legal fees for anyone that could be a witness against him) his PACs will be out of money by June, just in time for that trial. You might notice, he’s not spending any campaign donations on campaigning, it’s all going to pay his legal bills and for his family’s lavish lifestyle, like millions to Melania who hasn’t been seen with him for years. 😂
He won’t be able to get funding or loans outside of New York when he’s banned from doing business there. It’s a business death sentence. 😂

ROTFLMFAHS!!!😂

Oh you little egg sucker. I got a bitter pill for ya! - paraphrased from Greater Tuna

“This is all I found”….Oof….you really got me. Far righty media isn’t talking about their sweetheart’s blatant hypocrisy (nor her constant adulterous philandering while espousing “Christian family values”, repeatedly breaking her oath to god and her husband) so there must be no story, no hypocrisy. Derp. Even you aren’t that stupid, and that’s a really low bar friendo.

Explain how that’s any different from any drag show….try without making up nonsense like “all drag shows are about sex, this wasn’t”, neither was the drag show he was hyping. Neither are most drag shows. Some are literally Tupperware parties.

People who are really against something don’t happily indulge in and promote it on TV repeatedly. Most reporters didn’t report on Greater Tuna in drag, he did, by choice.

“Theater production”…of a drag show where two men play an entire town full of women, “Greater Tuna”, a Southern staple since the 80’s…I saw it in Texas by the original cast in about 83, I would have been 12-13….and it is an undeniable 100% comedy drag show. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Tuna
He was so excited and happy to promote it.

Did you watch it? How much he loved it, so full of glee, so happily advertising an old Southern drag show that Southerners actually revere, “I’m kicking the shoes off. I may keep the pantyhose on. It does feel kind of good, actually,” . He was in heaven.
What about the fact that he was so happily supporting a drag show on tv while in drag himself and cooing about how great it was? *nothing

What about the other videos of other times he was so happy being in drag. It wasn’t a one time thing. He’s a far right white Ru Paul. 😂

Hilarious brainless hypocrite. He repeatedly goes on broadcast tv into homes unannounced pushing the trans lifestyle and you see nothing….because he’s cheating with Manly Traitor Greene? I thought you hated public homosexual relationships. Not her first time cuckolding her “husband” either (but maybe the last, he filed for divorce over this one)…more “family values” from the right. Yeah….that changes everything and suddenly his multiple publicly broadcast drag performances are nothing but any other is “grooming”.

Such hypocritical insanity bob. You pretzel yourself into these impossible positions because you don’t really have a position besides “blue=bad, red=good. Period”. It’s so infantile and makes you a laughing stock.

4:09 since you need your nose rubbed in it again. Look how happy being in a dress and wig makes him every time!

There’s your confirmation, looks exceptionally proud on both videos too, beaming.

So I reiterate- Botched sex reassignment surgery victim Manly Traitor Greene and her newest adulterous tryst are now 100% pro drag show as long as it’s a Republican man in the dress and makeup. 😂

More Thomas criminality- Thomas sold his 1/2 interest in his mother’s house to Crow for an above market price of $133000 in 2014 (and likely hers for the same price) and did not report it on his financial disclosure form, a clear specific requirement of government code for any real estate transaction over $1000, including for supreme court justices and including sales to “friends”.

Crow also improved the home and allows Thomas’s mother to live there rent free, also not reported, but it’s less clear how criminal that is despite its clearly being unethical bribery.
Crow also bought and bulldozed the neighbors homes so she wouldn’t have noisy neighbors….I mean because he really just wanted to beautify that random neighborhood.

Of course, in your mind, nothing burger. Thomas clearly wouldn’t rule in favor of the man who funds his and his families extravagant opulent lifestyle and his wife’s high paying extreme right political lobbying group….never….and breaking ethics and tax laws don’t count if the perp is Republican.

Referred to the DOJ for prosecution. First time ever in history for justices. More MAGA greatness.

Some Big Moments From The Jan 6 Hearings So Far

newtboy says...

I do think it makes Hunter look like a baller. A dope fiend, maybe, but not as much of one as Rush or Don Jr who you LOVE so I reject your hypocrisy, and Hunter is infinitely cooler than either of them.

This is DEFINITELY the lifestyle Don Jr wishes he could live, but he’s WAY too uncool, whining, crying, doing lines, throwing fits, getting sloppy seconds if anything at all…Hunter is rolling deep, living large, having fun, surrounded by fun hot women having 3 ways, not shrieking shrews that can’t stand him or alone, coked out, rage posting.

Is Hunter presidential material….no. Does he have political ambitions….also no. Don Jr isn’t presidential one bit either, but he thinks it’s his birthright now, and guaranteed you would vote early and often for him.

Do I think Hunter is cool, likely fun to hang out with. Yes.
But he’s definitely no roll model.
On par with any Trump in that regard, but WAY cooler.

BTW- you might not want to bring up who he slept with considering Trump’s history of fucking (or trying to fuck) all of his “friends” wives, multiple porn stars, raping multiple random women and subordinates, lusting after 12 year olds in public, partying privately with Epstein and YOUNG girls, and blatantly saying publicly on more than one occasion that he also fucked his daughter. By comparison, Hunter looks good there too.

Close. I retired by choice, and I have a non work related injury totally unrelated to being able to retire at 30, but not a debilitating injury. I’ve been a professional driver, janitor, welder/fabricator, and editor. Good choices, good timing, good luck, and being an insanely cheap bastard affords me a very comfortable lifestyle including international vacations and (ridiculously) 5 cars with my wife in California for around $35k a year with no handouts.

Why watch? Only because people with morals and ethics want to know the facts not just biased spin…clearly not on your radar.
It’s not one sided, it’s just insurrectionist free. It only has 2 Republicans because Trump Republicans made the conscious choice to “boycott “ it. Cry me a river.
There’s no counter argument because that’s not how investigations work. Investigations are held to find evidence, not debate it. If there was any honest contradictory evidence to be had, even just sworn testimony, they have been clear that would love to listen under oath on the record, but there isn’t, no one on Trump’s side actually wants to testify at all, no matter what they say on OAN or Blaze. They just ignore subpoenas and pretend they have a legal shield…which is why Bannon and others might well go to prison for years.
You get a defense at trial, which is coming. They could try to present evidence, but they have nothing but lies whimpers and whines to offer.

It’s Trumpists who want the truth hidden, uninvestigated, forgotten, and ignored. They want to hear lies or silence because the truth is they turned on America and democracy because one election didn’t go their way.

I do know better, I know that’s not what this thorough investigation Republicans fought against and boycotted is about, it’s about holding those responsible for a deadly but failed coup responsible. Those opposed to holding traitorous terrorists who attacked America responsible should move to Iran, there’s no place for them in America.

bobknight33 said:

From what I remember you have a work related injury or such preventing you from working.

How One Powerful Family Destroyed A Country

newtboy says...

Wow.
Sounds incredibly similar the Trump family.
Nepotism to the extreme, massive borrowing, huge financial ties to Russia and China, huge corruption and theft problems at the top, completely ignoring the plight of the quickly growing poor populace, relying on questionable at best future earnings to repay massive overspending wasted on useless wasteful projects, living lavish lifestyles as the country dwindles, printing money to pay for internal projects, causing massive inflation, refusing to leave office, ….

This could be America if Trump gets a second term. Good find, Bob.

No problem whatsoever with waivers. Are you worried that too many brain dead slugs will Darwin themselves? Why? Do you foresee some future shortage of morons?
The problem is trying to make everything safe for morons….how are we supposed to cull them if you remove ALL evolutionary pressures.
Idiocracy was a documentary from the near future.

Besides, if they’re dumb enough for all that, they’re dumb enough to know that if they can’t see the danger, the danger can’t see them, so just walk the cliff edge with your towel wrapped around your head, for safety.

If I want to risk my life climbing an active rock slide, that should be my and the recovery team my estate hires’s business. The idea that suicide is against the law is moronic to me….the only crime that is prosecuted only against those who fail at committing it. Suicide by overt stupidity or intentional high risk lifestyles not only doesn’t bother me, I fully support it as long as it doesn’t involuntarily endanger others.

BTW, the skier death doesn’t sound sad one bit to me, she died doing what she loved, and part of that love was undoubtedly of the danger level of skiing out of bounds, the rush of skiing with a 1000ft drop as the punishment for crashing (or stepping too far). I would think she probably really enjoyed 99% of her last day. Definitely the kind of horrific, quick death I hope for. Way better than prolonged disease or decline.

StukaFox said:

Therein lies the problem: most people HUGELY over-estimate their 'Acceptable risk level'.

- "100f and 0% humidity? What a perfect time to go for a 10 mile, uphill hike with only a can of Coke and some salty beef jerky!"

- "10 essentials? Beer, pot, lighter, cellphone, hat, earbuds, that little map they give you at the visitor center, more beer and is that 10?"

- "I can read a map just fine! This off-trail hike through a rugged part of the park will be breeze!"

- "I can get signal anywhere in this enormous national forest!"

- "Aww! What a cute little baby bear!"

- "Can we get an Uber at the bottom of this ravine?"

- "Let's go swimming! This raging river of snow melt will be the perfect place to cool off!"

etc etc etc

Dying in the name of freedom

Hey there. Devil's advocate here.

Should we tell people who eat poorly to fuck off, too? What about any people who go off of their doctor's advice?

Don't get me wrong, I'm heavily in your corner. I would say the pandemic is a special case, not because it takes up hospital beds unnecessarily (which most of them do since heart disease, the #1 killer, is a disease of lifestyle), but because it immediately puts others in danger, outside the hospital.

The question of freedom vs. public health is easy in this case, but when does it become overreach? On the other (very far) end of the spectrum is eugenics.

I've mentioned before that one of my clients is a major healthcare provider, the largest on west coast. The worthless fucking parasites who refuse to be vaccinated are going to jack your insurance rates into the stratosphere because they're being treated first in the ER (major profit center for hospitals) and then the ICU (where $10k a day is the low end). The best case scenario is that they get on with it and go have a talk with Hitler in Hell, but no -- these cunts have to hang on and take up a bed that won't be available for the guy who just had a massive coronary, take up doctor's and nurse's time while they cover their distance between living dumbfuck and dead dumbfuck at a snail's pace, and fuck us all by running up multi-million dollar bills that they can't pay, they won't pay, and that they'll dump on the rest of us when they're done gasping the oxygen that belongs to people who aren't idiots.

These goddamn parasites can't die fast enough. I laugh whenever I hear some moron bewailing the fact he didn't get the vaccine and now Death is check his watch outside the door. You want to exercise the "right" to not be vaccinated (which you don't legally have in the first place), fine: die at home, hopefully in agony, and let your family leave your corpse on the sidewalk as an abject lesson in why being a complete fucking idiot doesn't pay.

Fuck I hate these goddamn people.

Woo boy, this is a doozy! The fact of the matter is a video comment section is not the place to have this conversation. There's too much to discuss, too many questions from one another that are best asked soon after they're conceived, etc. I frankly just don't have the time to respond to everything you said. Don't take this as acquiescence; if you'd like to have a Zoom chat some time, I'd be down.

In any event, I'll respond to what I find either the most important or at least most interesting:

Having theories is definitely the best way to go about most of the things you consider fact (for the moment), but the fact of the matter (no pun intended) is that at some point you'll need to use some of those claims as fact/belief in order to take action. And it's just human nature to, if one believes in a claim for long enough, it becomes fact, despite all your suggestions of objectivity. It's easy to say you're a scientist through and through, but if you're really someone who doesn't believe anything and merely theorize things, I think you'd be a sad human being. But that's a claim that I leave up to the scientists.

> Yes, and I eat animals because they're delicious.

You think that's a defensible moral claim? I find that disgraceful. If you truly think your own pleasure is worth sentient beings' lives then... I don't know what to say to you. That strikes me as callous and unempathetic, 2 traits you often assert as shameful. This is my point. You sound pretty obstinate to at least a reasonable claim. To respond with just "they're tasty". You don't sound reasonable to me.

> You may be correct, but eating meat is hardly the worst thing humans are up to.

Aw, come on @newtboy, I thought better of you than to give me a logical fallacy. The fact that you're resorting to logical fallacies wwould indicate to me that either you're confronting some cognitive dissonance, otherwise why would you stoop to such a weak statement?

> I gladly discuss vegetarianism with honest people, but I'm prepared when they start spouting bullshit like " eating any red meat is more harmful than smoking two packs a day of filterless cigarettes" ...

There is a lot of scientific research (not funded by Big ___) that is currently spouting this "bullshit". What happened to your receptive, scientific, theory-based lifestyle? It's true nutrition science is a fucking smog-filled night mare considering how much money is at stake, but I find it telling that a lot of the corporations are using the same ad men from Big Cigarette to stir up constant doubt.

Again, I find it peculiar that you are highly suspicious of big corporations... except when it comes to something that you want to be true.

Again, this is my point. Take a moment, take a few breaths, and look inside. Can you notice that you're acting in the exact same fashion as the people you purport to be obscenely stubborn?

Check out NutritionFacts if you want to see any of the science. Actual science. I would hope that it would give you at least somedoubt and curiosity.

That's a true scientist's homeostatic state: curiosity. Are you curious to investigate the dozens (hundreds?) of papers with a truly non-confirmation-biased mind? How much of a scientist are you?

> I've never met a vegan that wasn't a bold faced liar in support of veganism, so I'm less likely to give them a full chance at convincing me.

This, for me, raises all sorts of red flags. That's quite a sweeping claim.

> Again, that would be long held theories in my case, and it's not hard to change them. Mad cow disease got me to change until I was certain it wasn't in America. No, I'm not recoiling. I'll listen to anyone who's respectful and honest.

So, you're willing to make decisions based on self-interest and not morality? Well, duh. Everyone does that. It doesn't sound like you had a self-reflective moment. It sounds like you merely had a self-interested decision based on the risk to your own health.

And finally, all your talk about Bob -- of course he acts, consistently, like a twat. I just don't like feeding trolls. I don't think there's anyone on Videosift who's on the precipice and would be pushed over into the Alt-right Pit by Bob's ridiculous nonsense.

> Edit: in general I agree that dispassionate fact based replies with references are better at convincing people than derision, there are exceptions, and there are those who are unconvinceable and disinterested in facts that don't support their lies.

Ironically, I think science has disproved this. Facts don't change minds in situations like this. There are lots of articles on this. I didn't have the wherewithal to dig into their citations, but I leave that (non-confirmation-biased) adventure for you. [1]

---

I knew I wouldn't make this short, but I think it's shorter than it could have been.

Lastly, I'm with @BSR; I do appreciate your perseverance. Not everyone has as much as you seem to have! Whenever I see Bob... doing his thing, I can always be assured you'll take most of the words from my mouth. [2]

If the remarks being contradicted are not only smug they're also ridiculous, devoid of fact, racist, and or dangerously stupid (like insisting in May that Coronavirus is a hoax that's not dangerous and is a "nothing burger", and everyone should be back at work), and contradicting them with facts and references and +- 1/4 the disrespect the original remarks contained makes people vote for Trump, that does indicate they were already trumpsters imo.

Edit: It's like Democrats have a high bar to clear, but Republicans have no depth too deep to stoop to.

Trump changes Bob's beliefs daily, every time he changes a position Bob changes his belief to make the new position seem reasonable to him. He is not consistent. No other opinion matters to him.

I don't hold beliefs, I have theories. It's easy to change your theory when given new information, I do all the time. Beliefs don't work that way, so I avoid them as much as possible.

Yes, and I eat animals because they're delicious. I would eat people if they were raised and fed better, but we are polluted beyond recovery imo.

You may be correct, but eating meat is hardly the worst thing humans are up to. Killing for sport seems worse, so do kill "shelters", puppy mills, habitat destruction, ocean acidification, etc....I could go on for pages with that list. I try to eat free range locally farmed on family farms meat, not factory farm meat. I know the difference in quality.

I gladly discuss vegetarianism with honest people, but I'm prepared when they start spouting bullshit like " eating any red meat is more harmful than smoking two packs a day of filterless cigarettes" (yes, someone insisted that was true because they didn't care it wasn't, it helped scare people, I contradicted him every time he lied.) The difference is, I could agree with some of their points that weren't gross exaggeration, I agreed that excessive meat eating is horrible for people, I agree that most meat is produced under horrific conditions, I would not agree that ALL meat is unhealthy in any amount and ALL meat is tortured it's entire lifetime because I know from personal experience that's just not true. We raised cattle, free range cattle, in the 70's. They were happy cows that had an enjoyable life roaming our ranch until the day they went to market, a life they wouldn't have if people didn't eat meat.

I've never met a vegan that wasn't a bold faced liar in support of veganism, so I'm less likely to give them a full chance at convincing me. The fact checking part of my brain goes on high alert when talking with them about health or other issues involved in meat production, with excellent reason.

Again, that would be long held theories in my case, and it's not hard to change them. Mad cow disease got me to change until I was certain it wasn't in America. No, I'm not recoiling. I'll listen to anyone who's respectful and honest.

Here's the thing, Bob consistently trolls in a condescending, self congratulatory, and bat shit crazy way. Turnabout is fair play.
As the only person willing to reply to him for long stretches, I know him. I've had many private conversations with him where he's far more reasonable, honest, willing to admit mistakes, etc. (Something I gave up when he applauded Trump lying under oath because "only a dummy tells the truth under oath if the truth might harm them, Trump winning!") When someone is so anti truth and snide, they deserve some snidely delivered truth in return. Bob has proven he's undeserving of the civility you want him to receive, it's never returned.

Bob does not take anything in from any source not pre approved by Trump. I've tried for a decade, and now know he only comes here to troll the libtards. It doesn't matter if you show him video proof and expert opinions, he'll ignore them and regurgitate more nonsense claiming the opposite of reality. He's not trying to change minds, in case you're confused. He's hoping to trick people who for whatever reason refuse to investigate his factless hyper biased claims and amplify the madness. That he comes here to do that, a site he regularly calls a pure liberal site (it's not) is proof enough to convict him of just trolling.

Trolls deserve derision.

I spent years ignoring his little jabs, insults, derisions, and whinging and trying hard to dispassionately contradict his false claims with pure facts and references, it was no different then.
While privately he would admit he's wrong, he would then publicly repeat the claims he had just admitted were bullshit. When he started supporting perjury from the highest position on earth down as long as they're Republican but still calls for life in prison for democrats that he thinks lied even not under oath, he lost any right to civil replies imo. He bought it when Republican representatives said publicly in interviews that they have no obligation to be truthful with the American people, and he applauds it and repeats their lies with glee.

Edit: in general I agree that dispassionate fact based replies with references are better at convincing people than derision, there are exceptions, and there are those who are unconvinceable and disinterested in facts that don't support their lies. How long are you capable of rebutting them with just fact and references when they are smug, snide, insulting, dangerous, and seriously delusional if not just purely dishonest?

Rebuttal?
