STAR TREK BEYOND Official Trailer #2 (2016)

Mordhaus says...

@artician @LiquidDrift

You all are forgetting about Star Trek V, The Search for God. That movie single-handedly almost destroyed the entire franchise.

You could film two hours of William Shatner singing to Chris Pine about why he was the best Kirk and it wouldn't be worse than Star Trek V.

@JiggaJonson
khan noonien singh was a genetically enhanced human prince from the 1990's and participated in the eugenics wars, which consequently was the reason for his,and his followers, fleeing to space and escaping the inevitable aftermath from their defeat.

his spaceship the botany bay was discovered 300 years later by captain kirk and the starship enterprise, perfectly preserved in cryogenic sleep.

you all may bow to my geek prowess.

i think this video is referring to the original actor and appear to have taken issue with cumberbatch not being a latin actor.

which i agree with you is pretty damn nitpicky.

on another note.
my first date ever with a young black woman was soul man, starring c thomas howel.i didnt really research the movie and was mortified when c thomas howel painted his face as black man.thank god she was a good sport.though she did bust my chops for months after.

true story.

Star Trek Beyond - Trailer 1

SDGundamX says...

Uh, isn't the song an homage to the first film when Kirk steals the car and drives it off a cliff (pretty sure this was the song playing in the background)?

Look, this is the 3rd movie in the rebooted franchise. Do people really not get the idea of a "reboot"? They're not re-making Star Trek, they're taking it in an entirely different direction. The first one clearly showed they wanted to go in the blockbuster action film direction and the second one re-affirmed that. So, it completely baffles me as to why anyone at this point would still think the rebooted franchise is going to be anything like the original Star Trek movies (let alone the TV series, which had far more time to build the characters and establish the universe than the movies do).

Now, as to the particulars of this trailer... they're going to blow up the Enterprise, again?!? We haven't "been there, done that" enough yet? And so much for their 5-year mission--looks like that is going to get cut a little short.

Still the idea of the main cast members getting stranded on a hostile planet is pretty good for allowing some cool between-character interaction and does in fact harken back to all of the TV series versions (where it seemed to happen on a fairly regular basis).

Will wait and see. Probably will be a good action popcorn flick (which is clearly what they want the series to be).

Jesus fucking christ, how did this abortion ever get green lit?

Way to completely and utterly miss the point of a franchise.

What's next? The next Raid to be a slow-paced, dialogue heavy introspection into the nuances of Indonesian geopolitics?
Does the drummer in Whiplash 2 join a metal band?

Every single thing about this is just stupid, from the soundtrack* to the lame attempt to give Chris Pine Kirks haircut. Fuck, I haven't even mentioned anything about the direction or the story yet.

@CrushBug, don't take this personally, but if there was a way to unpromote or anti-quality I would use every single point I earned on this abomination.

Look, if you want to make an awesome action movie in space with a kick arse soundtrack, great! Sign me the fuck up for that one. In fact, I watched it last year, it was called Guardians of the Galaxy and I loved it.

But that's not what Star Trek is about. Why would you even bother spending money on the licence? It's not that you can't even make a great Trek movie with decent action beats (First Contact nailed both), but Star Trek is supposed to be a tiny bit more thoughtful.

Fuck everything about this.

* I love the Beastie Boys and Sabotage is a great song, but it fits Star Trek about as well as smooth jazz would fit the next Avengers.

Riker

Sylvester_Ink says...

When I first watched TNG, back in my youth, I didn't really think Riker was all that amazing. I mean, how can you compete with Picard, Data, Worf, etc? But when I rewatched the remastered release of the show recently, I realized . . . Riker is the biggest boss in the Star Trek universe, bar none. (And yes, that includes Kirk. I went there!)

I mean, of course he gets all the ladies, but he also plays the trombone, fights Klingons, eats Klingon food, arouses Klingon ladies, is a crack shot with a phaser, is an excellent tactician that thinks outside the box, knows several martial arts, is a master poker player, good at chess, and has a beard that makes Chuck Norris pale in comparison. (I FREAKING WENT THERE!)

Riker is glorious, and I am completely serious when I say that.
(See? No sarcasm tag.)

AeroMechanical says...

Yeah, I'm glad my burning puppies and kittens for money days are behind me. It's such an easy habit to fall into, what with the peer pressure from that dude Kirk and all, and everyone deserves a second chance. These days it's just the occasional ant with a magnifying glass, but only when I have to make change for the parking meter.

Left Behind - Nicolas Cage Official Trailer #1 (2014)

RFlagg says...

...So the Kirk Cameron series based off the same books wasn't enough they had to remake it? What, because Tim LaHaye, one of the original authors of the books, didn't make enough off the original series? The studio decides to remake it so he can get a better cut?

Of course when the movie is panned for Cage's bad acting or anything else, the Christian right will just point out it is the "liberal media" trying to put down the Christian message and not be an actual review of the film's merits.

I'm surrounded daily by people who believe this stuff. Who believe the election of Obama is a sign of the end of times. When climate change gets to the point even they can't deny it anymore, they'll still deny it is human activity and chalk it up to more proof that we're in the end times and it's just like the Bible said. That this nation (somehow the US is special) is being judged for abortion and homosexuality, the last just like Sodom... of course if you point out that the Bible says that the specific sin of Sodom was being a land of plenty and doing nothing to help the needy and the poor, they just change subjects.

Evolution's shortcoming is Intelligent Design's Downfall

leebowman says...

I know, a cheap argumentative shot. I seldom cite others to prove a point, unless I first state facts, then give a link for collaboration.

I also apologize for jumping from an argument is support of the RLN to arguments in support of ID (par. 3 - 7), two related, but separate issues.

Regarding Kirk Cameron's banana fervor, I somewhat agree. I see design inferences where most others don't, including various synergistic relationships which are generally attributed to convergent evolution, but which I sometimes attribute to design, or in the case of change over time, re-design.

Most speciation events are simply naturally occurring adaptive alterations, to adapt to a changing environment. But more radical body-plan revisions, land mammal to aquatic cetacean for example, show signs of designer input, much of which could have been 'cut-and-try', rather than 'poof' style modifications. Thus, the uncovering of intermediates, and the lengthy time periods involved.

Evolution's shortcoming is Intelligent Design's Downfall

mentality says...

What you posted does nothing to refute the crapiness of the design. Why the recurrent laryngeal nerve give off branches to the cardiac plexus is very simple: The RL nerve is a branch of the Vagus nerve, which is THE source of parasympathetic innervation to the heart. The fact that some fibers may branch off of the Vagus early with the RL nerve and then rejoin the cardiac plexus further along is hardly uprising. That does NOT explain why the nerve fibers that innervates the larynx have to make an unnecessary loop downwards around the aorta.

If there WAS an intelligent designer, he could have easily made those nerve fibers innervating the the larynx split off the Vagus higher up, where the Vagus nerve PASSES BY RIGHT NEXT TO THE LARYNX.

Trying to refute this video by quoting Gray's Anatomy is either a sad misunderstanding of basic scientific concepts or just willful ignorance. Almost as bad as Kirk Cameron and the banana.

leebowman said:

They apparently didn't know that that nerve innervates the heart and other chest organs. From Gray's Anatomy:

"As the RL nerve curves around the subclavian artery or the arch of aorta, it gives several cardiac filaments to the deep part of the cardiac plexus. As it ascends in the neck it gives off branches, more numerous on the left than on the right side, to the mucous membrane and muscular coat of the oesophagus; branches to the mucous membrane and muscular fibers of the trachea and some filaments to the inferior constrictor."

And as the lady is separating the nerve from the chest area, she is actually cutting those nerve innervations. Oh, and one more thing. The long nerve does NOTHING to weaken the neck, or the animal itself, as is seen in the following video.

Is it really dying though? I really don't follow any music. but something tells me they're still raking in the dough in massive amounts though.

Like someone else said. People keep buying this stuff. The demand is there and they are just supplying it.

I have to agree, both versions are horrible, but I don't like pop in the first place, so I am biased.

Too many people actually give a damn about what celebrities do when they're not making movies or singing songs. Many of the celebrities themselves are sick of the frenzy. Some give it up, but some stay for the paycheck. How many times do people refer to a celebrity by their character's name instead of their actual name. "Oh shit, I just saw Captain Kirk!", vs "Oh shit, I just saw William Shatner!"

When people don't like the drudgery of their own lives, they start thinking about other peoples' lives.

Sagemind said:

That being said. It's a terrible situation when the "Music" industry prefers image over the ability to sing or play instruments.

... And they are wondering why the music industry is dieing?

Music is ability, imagination, art and talent coming together in a cohesive lump which provokes emotions fused with a rhythm that lets you feel it inside.

That's not manufactured - it's Emoted.
"Lets try putting music first in the industry again!!!!!"
