Rick Sanchez Rips Into Joe The Plumber

14202 says...

The quote of 'Joe the Plumber' is sadly lacking any real thought, or consideration of the subject. A 6th grader could have said it better. At least, we would all understand that the 6th grader hasnt been on this planet long enough to understand why their words are incorrect. Seems education and knowledge are not big concerns of 'Joe'.

I'm sure, many journalists can name friends and family who have gone to war zones and reported. And some know those who didnt come back alive. For 'Joe' to say, what he said, shows a distinct lack of wisdom. But then, he was a McCain lackey.

Thumbs up to Mr. Sanchez.

Joe the wanna-be plumber is some dumbass dipshit who was unhappy that Obama told him that his business would be taxed slightly more (from 36% to 39%) for profit made exceeding $250,000. From Wikipedia:

"Republican candidate John McCain then called him "Joe the Plumber" during the third presidential debate on October 15, 2008. The McCain-Palin campaign and the media later applied "Joe the Plumber" as a metaphor for middle class Americans. Media background research soon revealed that he was not a licensed plumber and he owed taxes."

M'eh - "Joe" is at least as qualified to be a 'journalist' as anyone at CNN, CBS, MSNBC, ABC, FOX, the AP, or any other news outlet nowadays.

Hardly.

One of the pre-req's of journalism is knowing how to fucking write and spell.

I agree that there are a lot of educated sell-outs in those media "institutions" but Joe the Plumber is little more than a fad that some fat-heads decided to capitalize on since their Sarah Palin gambit didn't pan out.

Upvoted for his passion, and because I think Rick Sanchez is an interesting anchor, but that wasn't really a very convincing indictment of Joe the Plumber. More of a personal attack. He even made fun of his last name; that's not cool.

But there is no doubt that Joe the Plumber is an amazing tool for criticizing war reporting. Joe's argument starts out as a complaint about the media giving away tactical information, but I don't think that's an issue at all, especially not in the Gaza strip. At the end, though, he lets slip what his real beef is -- reporting about atrocities. Oh, yes, "war is hell" so stop making a big hoopla out of every school full of children destroyed or every prisoner forcibly raped.

This guy is an absolute joke. He has no concept or clue of what living in a democracy really entails or what has actually contributed to upholding the free state he lives in and enjoys. Those were reporters that captured the flag raising on Iwo Jima, it was reporters that captured many of the images we think of when we talk about the allied landing at Normandy, it was reporters that went on bombing raids to document what the bomber crews went through, it was reporters that documented the forgotten war in Korea, it was reporters that helped stop the carnage in Vietnam, it was reporters that stopped the slaughter on the highway of death in Iraq, and its been reporters that have told the truth about what has happened in Iraq now, and the list could go on and on. This man is a disgrace to reporting and an absolute fraud. It sickens me that good, HONEST people are loosing their jobs every day while posers like this ass hole are given so many opportunities, non of which they deserve. Pay your fucking taxes you ass hole, and get off my tv.

Raw: Joe the Plumber reports on Gaza conflict

What does this say about the qualification's necessary to become a reporter?

This is Pajamas media we're talking about. Thinking they some how set the standard for journalistic qualifications is like thinking the McDonald's menu is used as the basis for gourmet cooking.

If the automakers collapse

NetRunner says...

I'm still up in the air about the bailout. I'm well aware that this one is dividing down party lines, and that's always what makes me suspicious about things like this.

The bailout for the Financial industry was called the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). It was intended to buy, well, Troubled Assets from financial institutions, and now Paulson and the Bushies are saying, $350 billion already spent, "oops, let's try buying stock instead"...which liberals like Paul Krugman had been saying from the beginning.

What pissed me off about that whole mess was that Democrats didn't even try to push Krugman's plan, they just acquiesced to the Bushian demands for $700bn, no strings attached.

What Paulson seems to have done is handed the cash over to his friends on Wall Street, and placed no conditions on the use of the money, or the management structure of the recipients.

It's the same old Bush strategy -- execute Big Govermnent intervention as poorly as possible to try to sour people on the very concept, in the hopes that it drives people into the waiting arms of the "conservative" Republican party, and their radical socialist agendas to redistribute wealth from the middle class to the top .5%. Joe the PlumberTM is a poster-boy for what "success" looks like for these asshats.

So here's my deal. GM sucks, the Escalade wasn't really offensive to me, what was offensive was that GM's first foray into Hybrids was to add 2-3mpg to their SUV's, not to try up the mpg of their small cars into a Prius-like 45mpg. They had a working electric car, and they killed it, and now they want to make a hybrid for $40,000 called the Volt and say "see, we're modern".

That said, they employ 3 million people directly, and countless millions more via their suppliers. I don't want those people unemployed. I want GM to survive, even if it takes taxpayer support -- but I want Wagoner and Lutz's heads on lances. Failing that, I want them fired without benefit, and stocks & options confiscated. Same goes for anyone whose fingerprints are on the killing of the electric cars.

So here's what I want Democrats to do: force GM into Chapter 11-style restructuring, but use taxpayer money to make sure they keep operating throughout and don't let them slip into outright liquidation. No golden parachutes, no shareholder dividends, no bonuses and no retention at the executive level.

Then, we take the other $350 billion and do across-the-board single-payer universal healthcare, so GM, Ford and Chrysler don't have to worry about healthcare benefits for their employees anymore.

If the Republicans go into a froth, and fillibuster it, let 'em. We'll just pass it in January to the loving applause of the entire Great Lakes region, and Indiana and Ohio will both stay blue states for the forseeable future.

I should have seen it coming - Obama and McCain Condoms!
