Clear for Takeoff

World's First $9 Computer

dgandhi says...

In addition to being $14/29 ( shipping auto added to pledge - $20 to the EU) on the kickstarter, it is also likely that selling this thing anywhere in the industrialized world is Illegal under copyright law.

Right now they have > 10x their required amount, they are going to have a hard time dealing with the new volume as is. So no benefit to joining at this point. It will likely be much cheaper to pick them up from newark/digikey or even sparkfun when they are actually in stock. assuming they actually ship and nobody with an IP claim to the linux kernel their chip supplier is stealing decides to sue them over it.

So a clear violation of rule 6?

6. Can I create or use more than one VideoSift account?

There is a strict rule of no more than one account per person, please. Abusers of this rule will be permanently ban hammered via IP address. Sorry.

I'd genocide all IP if such a feat were possible. Tyler Durden has gotta be kickin around somewhere in the collective unconscious.

If there is such a force, be it far future grey goo or gods that dwell within or without, I dedicate the abstract concept of my fictitious soul to the undoing of all corporate power.

Corporations are people and their IP is what? The thoughts within its brain? Well, I'd murder one or all so easily. Prey on their greed.

As the datum of my prayer festers in the digital realm, my only desire is for vengeance. I will rise from within the 1s and 0s, Viggo the Carpathian style.

The reason we live in dystopian future... today... Excellent fan video released on the internet, stirs up a reinterest in a shitty old intellectual property, people who profit from this buzzes response? Take the video away from the masses. F U, aholes.

I just... I get it, but it doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel like the internet I voted for! lol

Meh, you play with someone else's toys, don't be surprised if they want to make the rules.

I don't necessarily agree with their reasoning, but it's still their IP.

Overwatch Gameplay Trailer

So apparently if you are an FPS that looks like it was made by Pixar then you're a TF2 clone.

I mean, the similarities are obvious. They both have guns, they both have (mostly) humanoid characters, there appears to be a control point...and, my god, was that a healing beam!?!?! "One of the characters even turns into a turrent" - Hey now, the heavy is certainly slow and fat but he's not _completely_ immobile.

I spotted something else. That Tracer girl is TOTALLY using Weaver's Time lapse. That's another shameless copypaste from another game that Valve created from a mod made by somebody else. What next, Portals? Silent crowbar wielding protagonists? Waiting almost a decade for the next installment of a hotly anticipated IP?...hold on, I think Blizzard invented that with Starcraft and Diablo. nvm.

Honestly, it's been over 7 years. I played TF2, I loved TF2. When somebody tells me "Hey, Blizzard are shoveling all their money and expertise into creating a new game based on that other game you loved" my reaction isn't "HOW DARE THEY INTRUDE UPON GABEN'S HOLY GROUND!". I am looking forward to playing Overwatch and continuing an age old tradition of whining about how Bliz can't balance games.

That's our old IP and by old I mean from ~2 months ago. You can either 1) change your DNS servers to point at something like Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or 2) update your "hosts" file to explicitly override the domain's IP.

(You may also want to first try flushing your DNS just in case it happens to be your computer's DNS cache that's at issue, which I'm guessing it probably isn't.)

Along with Payback, I too am running into oddities accessing the site. For me, it appears to be browser based.

Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox, it works fine. Opera, my preferred browser, has stopped working with the videosift address. The cdn version or direct IP routes work fine.

The ipv4 address matches, and I've yet to acknowledge ipv6 but I'll assume it's accurate

videosift.com -> 2600:3c00::f03c:91ff:fe70:f3af, 66.228.54.105
cdn.videosift.com -> 108.161.188.129

FWIW,

User Agent:Opera/9.80 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9.4) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.16
Build number:1860

Nothing's changed on our end. You must be having some kind of DNS issue.

Determine what IP address your computer is resolving videosift.com to. It should be: 66.228.54.105.

Can anyone tell me why I have to type in "cdn.videosift.com" to access the new site? www.videosift.com and videosift.com don't work.
