72 Hours Away From A Coup In Which Trump Will Be Decapitated

FlowersInHisHair says...

These assholes talked constantly about removing Obama from office. Their paranoid, homophobic histrionics should be fringe thinking, but people believe them. Perhaps it's that Christianist, rightist compulsion to always portray themselves as the underdog even when "their guy" is in power.

Say what you want about Trump, and fuck knows I despise the illiterate, racist, sexist, homophobic, moron... but he totally deserved person of the year. The exact same way Hitler did.

And there's no way in hell Sanders would win as an independent, at least, not until you fix your thoroughly broken electoral system.

newtboy said:

I thought it was more like making Trump the Time magazine person of the year, about quantity, not quality.

Please, Sanders, run as an independent...you'll win by the biggest margin ever.

I love my wife, I don't like men...stop touching me

Jinx says...

He loves his wife. Sometimes they touch. on special occasions. Occasionally.

No but seriously the sexuality of either is irrelevant, surely? I'm not wild about people I don't know well touching me either... but come on Daryl. Were you worried that if you didn't put a firm stop to the arm touching it might slide all slippery like down to more.. ha... intimate...p.places....Dear Lord Jesus grant me the strength to resist...

Sorry. Really seriously now though, I don't think is fair to gay peeps to always assume the homophobe is trapped in the closet. It's probably not that fair to make fun of the closet dwelling homophobe either - somebody else taught them to hate themselves...and somebody else is an asshole. I hope you're not an asshole Daryl.

John Oliver - Australia's Postal Survey

ChaosEngine says...

There's really only two arguments against SSM.

1: "I think the institution of marriage is pointless". Great, then don't get married, but kindly fuck off and don't tell the rest of us how to live our lives.

2: "Gay people are icky". Not actually an argument, but at least you're being honest.

On the plus side, there's every chance that this insane waste of money will actually bring an end to the current Australian government. Literally everyone I've talked to in Australia (been there for work recently) thinks this postal vote is a massive waste of taxpayer money. The vast majority are perfectly fine with SSM, and even those against SSM know that this is pointless.

OTOH, if Australia does decide that it really does decide that it wants to continue being a backward, homophobic, rock-on-fire-that-no-one-should-live-in*, well that's just more tourist dollars for NZ!

* just kidding... there are some parts of Australia that are only mildly racist!

Trolling A Homophobic Preacher

ChaosEngine says...

The dictionary disagrees with you
homophobia
: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

But for the sake of argument, elaborate.

Why is being anti-gay different from homophobia? And why isn't this preacher homophobic?

He clearly has an aversion to homosexuality and is advocating discrimination against it. Unless you can provide a rational reason for this (hint: "because my imaginary friend said so" does not count as a rational argument), I'd say he falls squarely under the definition of homophobic.

bobknight33 said:

Being anti gay is not the same as homophobic.

The preacher is not homophobic.

When you are on a plane and you hear a baby crying, you think that’s happening to you.
This is gonna ruin my flight. It’s gonna ruin it.
Well look at the parent, because that person is holding a crying baby on a plane.
Which means they’ve been travelling with a baby all day, which means they have a baby, okay?
So there life isn’t even good.
They don’t like anything.
Their whole life is, ugh, Jesus.
If there is any joy for them, it’s that this is now bothering other people.
Yeah, you listen to this shit now, WAAAH."

Rex Murphy | Free speech on campus

Watch further, particularly his videos on authoritarian regimes. His issue is that controlling language with force is a hallmark of classic far left regimes (ie. Lenin/Stalin's Russia, Mao's China etc), so his beef is not only with the uni, it's with the government and the deluded (or worse, calculated) morons who think that state sanctioned and enforced speech is a "good thing".

He has spent decades studying authoritarianism and makes compelling arguments as to why the current "SJWs" are almost identical to the precursors of other authoritarian regimes.

I don't ask anyone to take anything said at face value, but Peterson does the due diligence for his arguments, and will often defer answering a question if he doesn't think he can offer a well reasoned response. I've yet to see a single video where he has said anything negative about trans people (as opposed to saying negative things about a government law to force language), yet he is described as a homophobe because it's far easier to label him to discredit him than to actually listen to what he is saying.

in my opinion,dr petersons only real gripe, and valid argument,is against the university of toronto, and how they handled the situation.

i have watched a number of dr petersons videos on language, and the psychology behind language, and the societal and cultural impacts of language, and even the abuses that can arise with the misuse of language and the inevitable conflicts that can arise.

i have also seen peterson speak to a group of protesters and have watched them settle down and actually have a conversation with him.

so i think peterson has a beef with the university, and not the addendum to an already existing law, although that is not his contention.i simply do not see where he can take it to that extremity, when there is little evidence to support it.

i dunno..seems kind of a waste of time in many aspects to me.

The failure of the media, explained

enoch says...

@iaui
i do not understand you defense of corporate media pundits, who most certainly failed to recognize the actual political climate of this country.

i am not saying EVERY pundit got it wrong.there were internet political shows that did address the rise of populism, and the reasons behind it,and that trump was a valid threat and not to be dismissed.

but for the most part, corporate media pundits all echoed each others sentiments in regards to this last election cycle.

there is a REASON why bernie sanders populist language resonated with the public, and many of those people were republicans.

there is a REASON why trumps populist language, which was vastly different than sanders, resonated with another sector of the population, and not all of those people were racist, sexist, misogynist homophobes.

and none of those REASONS were addressed by corporate media pundits.they preferred to talk about trumps bombastic speeches, his racism and sexism...total cult of celebrity, because it SOLD,it made them MONEY.

it is those very same corporate media pundits that actually facilitated the rise of donald trump, and his actual presidency, because they simply did not get the current political climate here in america.which is exactly what this video is addressing, that these highly paid, and richly rewarded, pundit class reside in their own tiny, little echo chambers, that happens to reside in close proximity to the very people they have been assigned to watch, criticize and report on.

they failed on an epic scale, and it is no surprise that the majority of americans have abandoned corporate media as if it had herpes, covered in aids.

and to make the argument that this video is suspect SIMPLY because bob posted it,is intellectually dishonest, because it does NOT address the video.i disagree with bob on pretty much everything, but to ignore or disregard this video based solely on the fact that you,or i,disagree with bob politically is just incredibly weak.

now if you wish to defend corporate media political pundits, and opinion makers, and have strong case where this video is wrong in regards to how the pundit class have failed, live in a bubble, and did not understand the underlying frustration and anger boiling underneath americas working class.i am all ears, because in my opinion they have utterly failed the american people.

and i am not dismissing your polling numbers,i am just saying they are not as relevant as you are making them out to be.polls can be manipulated to mean anything you want them to mean, and in my opinion are not a strong basis to formulate an argument to defend corporate media.

but i suspect your argument is more against bob than the video, and your skepticism is based solely on your disagreement with bob politically.not un-warranted i admit, bob has posted some extremely slanted videos, but so haven't we all in our own way.

but in this case?
this video is spot on,even though bob is the one who posted.

do not let your bob bias and prejudice cloud your judgment.

Why I Left the Left

newtboy says...

No, the teabaggers invaded the republicans and took them mostly far right but really deep into insanity, where they aren't right or left, just angry and lashing out while accepting no responsibility for their parts in problems. They are anti tax, but pro spending, anti big government unless it's a government project they support, then big government is what's needed every time, anti regulation unless it's a regulation against something they dislike (like abortion, relaxing drug policies, marriage, equal protection under the law, etc).

Every teabagger I've met (and there are many) has been at least as if not more racist, homophobic, and bible thumping than the media makes the 'party' out to be, including (sadly) many of my own family members. They are not the fringe, they are the base, you're either lying or don't know your own group. They are also just as dumb and/or stupid as they are portrayed, my favorite slogan is "keep your government hands off my medicare", clearly the woman carrying it was so dumb she didn't understand that medicare is a government program, just like 1/2 of you don't know that the ACA is Obamacare, but HATED Obamacare with a passion while insisting the ACA is great. Not racist? Then what? Just brain dead? It's this disconnect from reality and sanity that made me run from them as soon as it was clear where the party was going....it didn't start out like it ended up, it started out more like OWS.

Haven't you been the one saying all left wingers are in perfect alignment with SJWs recently....repeatedly and smugly? Yes...that was you.

*facepalm

So the Republicans left the Conservatives and took the party to the left, meanwhile the SJW's took the Democratic party and drug it out to the WAY WAY out to the left?

In any effect, I agree with him in just about every way, and welcome him to come join us "tea baggers". We aren't nearly as racist, homophobic, or bible thumping as the media makes us out to be.

Not saying those people don't exist, but they are a really, really small fringe, and putting their identity on a whole group of people is like saying all left wingers are in perfect alignment with BLM or OWS groups.

Bill Burr Doesn’t Have Sympathy For Hillary Clinton

newtboy says...

No. Compromise implies give and take, not a one sided one way capitulation. I think 'both side's (as if there are only two factions) need to work together for common goals, not try to force their agenda down the other's throat. Trump voters need to change, especially the far right ones, same for Clinton voters on the far left. Neither extreme is good for the nation, but centrists are a dying breed. Sanders did reach out and had Republican support.....the DNC fucked us all by fucking him.
I understand the idea that Trump is the lesser evil, if you don't believe anything bad about him and believe he's successful, like most of his supporters. I contend the only evidence they have for that is his worthless word, because he wrote a book about how to get ahead by lying and screwing people over....but they didn't read it.

The pc crowd has damaged the left as much as the Nazis have the right. They both suck, but moderate dems at least fight the pc thugs, not so much on the right.

They aren't islamaphobes for discussing that question, they are islamaphobes for saying only Islam makes violent extremists.
Transphobes for pronoun use...just dumb to me.
Homophobes for obeying a priest that said to hate them, or attack them, or deny their humanity....absolutely....especially since they must cherry pick what's ok and what's not to justify their hatred but excuse similar sins they commit (shellfish, blended fabrics, both just like homosexuality, all three from the old testament, so not for Christians anyway).

The war on Xmas is bullshit. I've never once seen a real person upset in the least over merry Xmas....unless it's displayed on public property, that's unacceptable for any religion.

I really think the outrage over pc thugs is a red herring. If you don't live on a liberal campus, you'll probably never meet one. I live in liberal hippy paradise and I haven't. What they want is nuts, but who cares, Nazis want a Nazi state, which is nuts and anti American, who cares, it won't happen.
Maybe I'm wrong and pc has taken over, but I don't see it outside of South Park.

I agree on not forgiving the blatantly racist factions. I've said the same thing of ISIS, jihadists and their ilk. They and guys like Richard Spencer remain the mortal enemies of civilization. We never accept them or their ideas, if they want peace or cooperation, they are the ones that need to change.

I do still fear that for all practical purposes your position, and seemingly that of the democrats and protesters out in force, is little different from writing off everyone that voted Trump. If the expectation is that Trump voters need to be the ones that swallow all the change or make all the compromises then the difference doesn't matter. If you want to get people to vote your ticket or candidate, you've got to be the ones reaching out. Demanding the prospective voters come apologetically to your party isn't drawing them in, it's driving them away.

Neil Mcdonald from CBC I think summed up where a lot of Trump voters came to the conclusion that Hillary was no lesser evil:
You can bet they're listening closely every year at Halloween, when progressives reliably denounce as racist anyone allowing their children to dress up as a member of any other culture. Like, say, sending a little girl out dressed as Mulan.

Or when they're denounced as Islamophobes for even discussing the question of why so many people who commit mass murder of innocents do it in the name of Allah. Or as transphobes for using the pronouns "he" or "she" without explicit permission. Or as homophobes for obeying their priest or imam. Or as some sort of uninclusive-o-phobe for uttering the phrase "Merry Christmas."

There are millions of people out there who aren't terribly interested in a lecture about the difference between "cisnormative" and "heteronormative," and how both words supposedly describe something shameful.
