Unreal exchange over Canada’s involvement in Iraq

In our House of Commons, although the person speaking is recorded by microphones, unless you're listening on a headset like the Opposition was, you have to hear what the person says directly, and there's usually EVERYONE else there yelling something or the other to someone else across the room too.

I mention this because that is what he's doing. Plausible deniability. "I didn't hear his question right". He's still being disingenuous, and slimy, but he's not stupid. Crazy like a fox as it were.

Alien Isolation on Oculus Rift - Jess Can't Cover Her Eyes

Tingles says...

I've never used Oculus yet. I have no idea what version of the kit this is. Concerned at the lag between head movement and movement on the monitors. Very noticable, is this the first dev kit?

Does that lag even matter? Is it far more refreshed in the headset versus what we see on the monitor?

His reaction to the luge VR thing is about the most positive that I've ever seen him with regards to video gaming... Was the headset an Oculus?

What happens if you push someone wearing Oculus Rift?

Titanfall Gameplay video @ 1440p

RFlagg says...

It was one of the best games I've ever played. Certainly the best shooter. That PC beta period didn't last nearly long enough and can't wait to play it again. I had an i3 530 and nVidia 450 GTS at the time and still got fairly good graphics on my 1600x900 monitor... By March 11th I should have a new i7 4770k and an nVidia GTX 770 and a 1080p monitor so win there... Quad Titans on the system shown though is insane... And can the XBox One even do the game on 1080p or was it locked to 720p like most other titles? Which is the crazy part... I mean, I might get an XBox One Titanfall edition since you get the game and a headset for no additional cost, and Destiny sadly isn't coming to PC for some odd reason.

Beats and Skull Candy are both worthless brands made out of sub-par components. I've had both and they don't last very long. Skull Candy products are worse -- I've had the headphones straight up break into pieces from casual fat ass usage.

But we're talking about Beats, which are $$$ whereas you could spend the same amount (or less) on an actual decent headset. Logitech yo.

These aren't the same type of headphone, but goddamn 7.1 surround: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VANOFY/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Blackphone introduction

Sniper007 says...

Give me a smartphone that can record both sides of the conversation to your phone's memory (WITHOUT using the speakerphone function) and I'm sold. In particular, I'd like to record a conversation I'm having on a bluetooth headset. It can't be done as far as I know.

Sarzys review of "The Stanley Parable"

Sarzy says...

Not including the time spent playing the game, it took me maybe like two or three hours to write/record the voice-over and edit it all together. I used a crappy headset to record the audio (I think I might invest in a slightly better quality mic), a program called Open Broadcaster Software to record the gameplay, and I edited it with Adobe Premiere.

The funny thing is that I actually had to re-record myself playing through a portion of the game with the mouse sensitivity turned down; I typically play FPSes with the sensitivity way up, but it turns out that me swinging the camera around like a crack addict on speed doesn't make for the most watchable video ever.

Hey @Sarzy just curious. How long does it take to make a video like this and any interesting details of how you go about it.

Amazing Markerless Motion Capture Tech For Recording Faces

alcom says...

Wow, impressive. This is another step forward in the virtual reality we expected to see decades ago (after seeing the Lawnmower Man and other VR-themed sci-fi, peaking with the Matrix.) This tech along with Oculus Rift will put people inside their avatars.

I didn't see the actor really shaking his jowls or showing his face reactive to gravity, which is a big part of what current CGI lacks. He probably wasn't allowed in case the headset broke, although I'm not fully aware if its role in the demo. I also wonder where the texture on the poly came from. It looks to be a good match for his face, but it wasn't real-time.

Fantastic sift!

The question is: how long did it take to render? Is it hours or even days on large render farm for each clip? That might limit the practicality, certainly for sports broadcasts at least.

On the other hand, I hope in 10 or 15 years, I can watch sports and put the camera wherever I want in real time or put on my VR headset and watch as though I were standing next to the pitcher or sitting on the wing of a race car. That probably will happen and that is an AWESOME prospect.

How it Feels (through Glass)

xxovercastxx says...

@Deano

The sad thing is it looks like you're right about the phone calls which I think is a major mistake. It was confirmed today that Glass will tether to Android/iOS for 3G/4G data. That pretty much ends my interest in owning Glass.

I think excluding phone hardware from Glass is insanely stupid, but given that's the reality, I can't argue against the importance of integration anymore.

Hopefully in a few years they will truly integrate them into a single piece of hardware and then we will have a piece of hardware which might be worth buying. If Glass is just to be a glorified Bluetooth headset, I'd rather have contacts.

From Plane Crash To Marriage Proposal In A Few Minutes

I think the sound of the engine would have drowned out their voices - hence the headsets.
I've been in smaller planes and noise is always an issue.
It may not have been possible to wire the headsets into the hidden camera - or maybe he tried and it was still garbled.
>> ^ant:
What if there was a real emergency after that? Good thing she didn't get angry.
Why no audio of them talking?

Ah thanks.
