USDA: Eggs are NOT Healthy or Safe to eat

transmorpher says...

Refined carbs aren't great, but grains, starchy roots (potatos) and beans are a key component of every bluezone in the world where people live the longest and with the fewest amounts of disease. There's a video about it on the same channel as this video above :-)

You don't want to trade weight loss, for long term health is what I'm saying. Weight loss in of itself is going to improve health markers and general wellbeing, but the majority of people in the west die from preventable heart-disease, which is without a doubt tied to cholesterol, which eggs are full of (yes there are a lot of cholesterol deniers out there, but there is no valid research backing up their claims). Bob Harper is a good recent example, huge keto/low-carb advocate, had a heart-attack, despite being lean and athletic. He's doing the bluezone way of eating now....

Also have you noticed that nobody ever mentions the 4th macro nutrient in any diet these days? Fibre! The one macro nutrient almost everybody is deficient in.... but nobody seems to talk about it, except those selling fibre supplements. I find it weird personally!

From a Keto perspective eggs are the perfect food! My blood tests, weight, and sleep/energy improved by avoiding carbs. Really makes you think how upside down that USDA approved food pyramid is...

Canadian police arrest girl 2 weeks before her death

bcglorf says...

Further to the complexity of the problem in Canada is this shooting on a native reserve just an hours drive from me. I don't know if it's kosher to link to another sift vid I just uploaded, but I don't wanna bloat this post either. Short version is that a man on reserve shot two people. His uncle was a former chief on the reserve, and after the shooting his uncle and other leaders held the linked press conference.

In the press conference, they make no mention of the victims until the very end and spend the majority of the time describing how the government needs to send them more money to solve the root causes of the problem. A few years ago Harper was lambasted for demanding that reserves post very basic summaries of how they spend government money or risk having it cut. Dakota Tipi was one of the hold outs and still hasn't posted.

If you really want to add some fuel to your, shall we say, "dislike" of HRC, have a look at this. It's an excerpt of Thomas Frank's new book "Listen, Liberal!". Afterwards, you might have to reassure yourself that HRC is, in fact, not a creation of John Cleese's or Terry Jones'.

Edit: I should probably have provided an appetizer.

"For poor and working-class American women, the floor was pulled up and hauled off to the landfill some twenty years ago. There is no State Department somewhere to pay for their cell phones or to pick up their day-care expenses. And one of the people who helped to work this deed was the very woman I watched present herself as the champion of the world’s downtrodden femininity."

I'm pretty liberal minded but things have been going too far in this country recently. Our social benefits and tolerance of other cultures are being abused. Perhaps muslim women should consider respecting the traditions and customs of the country they moved to instead of expecting everyone else to acquiesce to their demands. Our citizenship ceremonies might seem pointless to them but they matter to us a great deal.

Have a little perspective, would muslim culture be tolerant of non-compliance? No, you would be put to death for it. Meanwhile in Canada you can freely debate, engage and have a wide variety of cultural freedoms. All Canadians were asking is to move a piece of cloth for 30 seconds during a very important tradition of ours, one where you join our country and become a citizen of our country.

Stephen Harper was wrong to politicize this issue but muslim women who won't even offer the country they're moving to a modicum of respect and understanding are wrong too. If people are going to become so abrasive over such a non-issue in a country that already bends over backwards for other cultures, where will they be on issues that actually matter?

It's not exactly easy to move to Canada anyhow. Like most countries they want only people with very limited skill sets, which sadly I don't have. I can't move to New Zealand, Canada, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland or any of the places my ex-wife and I looked to move to ages ago. But yeah, semi-moot point about Harper now that Canada finally ousted him and his brand of crazy. They sadly didn't go far enough and still have a guy who favors things like the Keystone Pipeline (though I hear even Alberta itself no longer wants it).

I find it more amusing when Republicans voters threaten to move to Canada or the UK if a Democrat wins... everything they hate about the Democrats is there, times 10 or more. Leaving the US because of our crazy slide further and further to the right nearly makes sense (not the reason we were looking to leave, we genuinely wanted to move to New Zealand, and the others were secondary thoughts just to really change things up).

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Canadian Election

iaui says...

Nahh... we surely wanted a minority government but Trudeau getting a majority isn't horrible. It means they have a chance to fix a lot of what the Conservatives have done to this country without having to worry as much about interference from the Conservatives.

Mainly, for the people who voted strategically for ABC (anyone but Conservative) like myself, it means the Liberals get a good chance at electoral reform without the Conservatives interfering. Anything is better than that 'Canadian twat' (Hear hear! and Harper, I'm referring to Harper here, even though @eric3579 left his implication open to interpretation... ) and four years of a Liberal majority will be better for Canada than anything Harper could have given us.

Payback said:

By the way, Trudeau has a majority government (over 50% of the seats),

Really shitty, to be quite honest. Minority governments get more done that are closer to what Canadians want. Majority Canadian governments are like one of y'alls parties having a President AND a Congress majority. Shit happens that truly stinks.

The War on Science

iaui says...

It's totally a science video with only a small part of the video dedicated to explaining Harper's science policies. You might have a little bit of confirmation bias going on...

It definitely focusses partially on Canada's current scientific political climate but because of that is highly topical, considering what will happen over the next eight days. To dismiss it is to give power to Harper and the Conservatives.

Not a science video, just another "anyone but Harper " political commercial.

$14k is more than a business class airfare, but less than first class return to Europe... I would guess that the speaker went first class and her staff went business class. The $5k was for a helicopter charter, not ground transport... it's only an hours drive, so not more than $200 for a taxi or a government car.

I am equally bewildered about Abbott and Harper. All I can say is that I think my countrymen were rather naive... it was obvious to me that the claims he was making prior to the election were so ridiculous that the best thing for the country was for him to simply turn around after the election and say "I lied!"... and he has pretty much gone back on every claim, only without actually admitting he lied.

I'm not sure what happened to Canada, either.

Maybe one day I'll have to move to New Zealand...

- 14k on airfares per person, almost 5k for ground transport -- just what did they travel in? Then again, that picture looks like she's desperatly trying to fit in with the blue blooded elites.

- I don't get Abbott. Steven Harper neither, for that matter. How can a reasonable people float this kind of person to the top? There are plenty of loonies around, but always with a solid base of loonies behind them (eg Berlusconi or Cameron). But not Abbott & Harper...

And then there was this one - http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jul/16/angela-merkel-comforts-teenage-palestinian-asylum-seeker-germany

Really there was no way to come out of that one looking good... although I do give her points for at least showing up and talking to the girl. Our own local version of the CDU would have locked her up in the Gulags of Nauru or Manus Island, and prevented any interviews or reporting punishable by 2 years gaol http://gu.com/p/4abgf/stw

Something else from Australian politics, the speaker of the house has come under fire for her travel expenses - http://gu.com/p/4akdp/stw - strangely not so much for the $A90,000 on a trip to Europe, but instead for the $5,000 for a helicopter trip to Geelong for a party fundraiser... go figure.

This one was just funny - our chief lizard trying to stay on message seems to have suggested that a grocery code would have prevented the Greek financial crisis - http://gu.com/p/4ae24/stw

Health care in Canada

Bruti79 says...

Being a type I diabetic and a two time cancer survivour, it's saved my life.

However, we have a national program that helps keep wait times low, regulates drug purchases, and moderates which provinces/territories get funding from the feds, that is going to expire thanks to our PM.

This means there'll be no federal quality control, and drug purchasing will get downloaded onto the provinces. Some can handle it, most can not.

We have an election in the fall, we'll see if Harper wins. I sure as hell hope he doesn't.
