Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 I. Moderato
It's way too complicated. It will never be popular..

Awful Starcraft General
You didn't challenge the example of Civ though?![](https://videosift.com/vs5/emoticon/wink.gif)

Of course it's a matter of opinion, but I think the RTS genera has seen huge improvements over the last decade. Minimizing the things that distracted from the fun of Starcraft; excessive focus on resource gathering, excessive building of duplicate structures, difficulty finding and selecting units easily , reliance on hotkeys, managing multiple endless queues of weak units, units that act unbelievably stupidly if not micromanaged. For me, the fun bit of RTS games are watching and controlling the battles. At the time I loved Starcraft despite all it's flaws. But Starcraft multiplayer makes you feel more like a coked-up accountant than a commander.
As for your other examples. . .yeah Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty, and Guitar Hero are all perfect examples of series that have been driven into the ground by safe and nearly identical sequels. I'd hate to see Blizzard go down that path.

Pretty much sums up why I wasn't too impressed by the Starcraft 2 beta. Just more of the same. They tried very hard not to improve the gameplay any over the least 12 years so as not to alienate any hardcore players.
How can you call a game "more of the same" when more than 1/2 of the units are new, the return units are changed, the campaign is new, there's new RPG and game mechanics in campaign and multiplayer, the engine is new, the physics are new, and the editor is more powerful than ever? That's like saying Street Fighter 4 is "more of the same" as Street Fighter 2, Civ 5 is the same as Civ 1, Gran Tourismo 5 is the same as GT1, Shogun Total War 2 is same as 1, etc.
You might as well skip all sequels to Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and every major game franchise out there since they just offer you "more of the same" content and toys to play with while the gameplay remains essentially unchanged. It's quite sad if according to your standards for gameplay, Fallout 3 is a more worthy sequel than Fallout 2 and XCOM is a more worthy sequel than TFTD.
And what do you even mean by "improving" Starcraft's gameplay? While you can argue subjectively that there are more fun games than Starcraft for you, objectively no other RTS has come close in terms of depth, balance, and skill requirement. When people throw around the term "improve", they usually mean "dumb down for the casual audience". No, having simplified game mechanics like removing base building does not equal better gameplay.
Rockband 3 will work with real MIDI keyboards
Getting there, but that keyboard they show is pretty dinky compared to even just a 61 key keyboard, let alone a full 88. 'sides, for anyone wanting to learn keyboard/piano with Guitar Hero/Rockband style gameplay, Synthesia already does it and works with any MIDI keyboard.
Rock Band 3 First Look - OMG KEYBOARD!
Wait... fullsize keys... actual notes on a scale? (Unmentioned in the video) Actual MIDI keyboard? Awesome! I hope this is a trend towards being able to actually learn how to play songs on real instruments from these games.
Too bad the rhythm game genre has been in a slump after re-hashed shit from Guitar Hero and the awful Beatmania wannabe DJ Hero burning out the market.

Zero Punctuation: God of War III
Yes. Let's have more regurgitated bullshit. These big corporations hardly every create anything new...they just buy some company that has a cool idea and run it into the ground with 8 sequels while charging every moron $15 for DLC "extras" that were really just things stripped from the original game.
Yes. Wave hello Call of Duty, Total Annihilation (Supreme Commander), Command & Conquer, Medal of Honor, Need for Speed, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Wolfenstein, Tony Hawk, blah blah fucking blah.
Sequels are one thing. Giving people more of what they want is fine. It's the stripping of features, massive "reboots", etc, that I have a problem with. If you change the game enough that it isn't much like the original, fuck you, do not use the name again.
If they reboot the Mechwarrior series and do a good job, awesome. If a "reboot" game is a lot like the original but updated for new technology, great. But, if all your new shooter has in common with the original game is that it's a shooter created by a studio that still employs the janitor that was cleaning the toilets when the original was made, call it something else. All of you know God of War IV or Call of Duty 8...THOUSAND will be a giant pile of crap.
Don't give in. Open your eyes. Buy something else.

DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames
Thanks to this song and Guitar Hero fame, a generation have now ingrained into their mindsets that good metal is equivalent to repetitively playing simple melodies really fast.

Well spoco, I upvoted your comment, but I also upvoted the video.
A great talent in guitar mimicry is a fuckton better than a highscore on Guitar Hero.
I so agree with you on that... very much so.
