We had a rambunctious house full and still managed to steal a few moments to talk. As for the gossip... I basically shamelessly recounted goings-on I see on "facebook"
Fully intending to discuss awe-inspiring spiritual/philosophical topics, cryonics, and the state of society's evolution with the relatively recent advent of tightly-knit online communities ~ we ended up trying to hear eachother over enthusiastic drunken exclamations and fireworks. We also got a game of "Apples To Apples" in there somewhere. Overall a fun time, and Don & I thank and appreciate your adventurous, warm spirits for the lovely company!

There is a huge difference between games that are "fun" and games that are for sport (although game used for sports can allso be fun , and more comon pop games can allso be used for sports)

classic Sport games: are quake 2&3 , starcraft , Rfactor , poker , css ,cs1.6

For a game to be a good sport game they are normaly compleaty focused on the raw mechanics of the game rather than the suger effects and gratificatoin mechanics , games with allot of suger like MW2 , or more arcady stile games often have far less of a skill difrentatoin to them they often have allot of mechanichs that are designed to draw skilled and less skille dplayers together to make them mor eenjoyable to play. as apoosed to a game suted to sports which make no real effort in the games design to flatten and auto balence the play exsperance.

allso allot of it is down to a games history and size of its Core solid user base , u might have games come out that for 8 months that are huge , but the games that are more suted to comps are games that last for 5 + years and have a ver large solid fan base.

when you have a versoin of a game where the core mechanics have stayed the same for 4+ years it can be almost garentied that anny bugs and (unfair imposable to counter) exsploits can be removed and fixed.

Of course mma standup isn't at the level of boxing. Boxing is all standup.
Mixed martial arts is every other martial art style you can think of.

A boxing round is 3 mins of standup hugging.
36 mins of dancing in boxing boots like an Acme cartoon.

MMA rounds are 5 mins of defending takedowns, submissions, head kicks, leg kicks, judo throws .. and strikes.
A MMA title fight is 5 rounds. That's 25 mins of working every muscle in your body.

If you aren't able to understand that about MMA you don't even know what you're talking about. [Which is already quite apparent]

I don't think you can appreciate all the disciplines of Mixed Martial Arts because you're sitting here complaining about heavyweights and how they aren't amazing conventional boxers.

P.S. - Fedor Emelianenko lost finally. Not due to great standup but by double submission: Armbar Triangle Choke.

My point is: of course MMA standup is sloppy. You have four or five other modes of attack you have to calculate and defend against.

My point is mma needs to step up it's standup game it's sloppy.

As a boxing fan, I can't enjoy heavyweight mma fights. It lacks the presicion and discipline that I'm used to. I'll watch a good boxing match over a the best mma fights any day. Explain how being FORCED to stand directly in front of someone as you wing haymakers at each other takes anymore precision or discipline than what you see in mma.
Boxing is to MMA as Firing pin is to Gun.
It's less dynamic, the action is less aesthetically appealing, and it's just as brutal as mma.

Look I still enjoy boxing as well as mma, but the argument that it's boring is pretty weak. How quickly you forgot about the last ufc in the spring, and this fight only looks marginaly more appealing. I remember hearing all the ufc fans bitching about wasting their money on those matches in the spring because it was a bunch of boring fights. My point is mma needs to step up it's standup game it's sloppy. the announcers were getting all excited about grazing uppercuts and slow sloppy jabs, and if kids start thinking that those punches are something to get excited about then were are going to see much more crappy, boring, amateur hour, fights. and lose all of our muhhamad ali's, tysons, aruro gattis, roberto durans, and all the rest of the truly great stand up artists. they will be replaced by 500 lb slabs of meat who can barely lift their arms to throw a punch, ask them to throw 200 punches and theyre fat, meaty heads will explode at the notion that it is possible.

I was surprised by this. At the end of the game, the French players all seemed to be good sports. They were in an unenviable situation but they were all friendly with their SA counterparts. They might have even appreciated that even though they lost they were part of a great game and it was nice to have SA win a world cup match on their home soil. But Domenech does seem like a poor sport.

I thought Rubin was a rather good sport about it.

The tension in the air actually changed when the guy said, "I think you're nice, blah blah but I'm out" and the sleaze guy then didn't take it gracefully, he came back with a stern, "Why?". That's when everyone stopped goofing off because the sales guy clearly isn't a good sport (and DOES seem kinda insane), then the cancer cure just tipped it over fully.
