FLAT OUT WRC Rally Finland 2021

It’s surprising it doesn’t happen more often.
When I raced off-road we had to think of them as bushes with clothes, otherwise we would be too worried to go fast. Just insane standing that close.

His story reminds me of my racing years....no team, no budget, only a deep desire to go fast. While I didn't come all the way across the Pacific, I did end up driving farther than that in a few years, easy when races are 4-500 miles away in the desert somewhere, then another 100-300 miles tearing through it before driving home. I was the only lone wolf in VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) for a few years. Good times.

Officer Brandishing Weapon On ATV Motorist In North Pole

newtboy says...

Unintelligible...try again.

No, no matter what the crime, unless you are being directly threatened with attack, you may not play cop. If you block a road and accost strangers, pretending to be a cop when you aren't, they can probably legally kill you to escape the armed kidnapping, and you can go to prison for decades. Call the cops and take photos of them, don't pretend to be a cop.

The color that probably matters most in this instance is blue, because the cops ignored the guards multiple crimes and went after the victim....as I said. Lighten up, a bare mention of race is not a declaration of racism.

Yes, you have that part right, the cop impersonator is the criminal here. The ATV riders weren't even going fast, and certainly were no danger to him or his family, and even if they were, he's 100% out of line to block, attack, then kidnap them. He's not a cop, so can't arrest people....just like you. Before you try saying citizens arrests are a thing, improper citizens arrest with a gun is kidnapping, not that he performed a citizens arrest in the first place, he impersonated a police officer.

If he had not blocked the road, not touched them, and not pulled a gun on them, but instead waived them down and asked them to slow down, that's proper, and a good start before calling REAL cops. What he did is at LEAST 3 major felonies including impersonating an officer, kidnapping, and using a firearm in the commission of another felony....a good prosecutor could probably charge him with more....if he weren't in 'law enforcement' I'm pretty sure they would.

Yea hes down have the right to stop them and yell at them for running up and and down the street.

If you had hooligans running up and down you street on ATVs then yes stop them ant talk to them and indicate your position of dislike.

Color has nothing to do with it . To you everything is raciest. A white man walking a black dog is raciest. lighten up.

There should not be charges against walker ( atv rider) but against Brower ( want to be cop)

The limits of how far humanity can ever travel - Kurzgesagt

SDGundamX says...

If I'm doing the math correctly, the universe is expanding at around 46 miles per second, which is around 165,000 mph. Is there some reason why humans could not overcome this speed limit? It doesn't seem that exceptionally fast (no where near as fast as the speed of light), and if you accelerate slowly to it, like over several days or weeks, the g-forces involved wouldn't be that extreme, would they? The video didn't really explain why we could never go fast enough to overcome the expansion rate.

Also, I thought most theortical physicists like Stephen Hawking believe that in the future technology could advance enough to allow us bend space-time and hence travel "faster than the speed of light" without actually travelling faster than the speed of light, basically like folding a piece of paper and sticking a pin through both sides. When you lay the paper down flat, the two holes will seem quite far away from each other, but when you fold the paper, the holes are right next to each other. Our current understanding of physics doesn't rule out the possibility (at least from a mathematical perspective) although generating the energy necessary to perform such a feat would of course be problematic.

The Most Costly Joke in History

newtboy says...

Versatility is great, but I think they tried to do everything and failed to do anything well. Having multiple skills is different from trying to be a Jack of ALL trades.

Personally, I much prefer bulletproof to 'invisible', since there's no such thing as invisible, just hard to see.

Again, that's the plan, but it can't do that today. When acting as 'close air support', it is visible and in danger from ground and directed air fire, going slow, and is slow to get going fast again. Also, close air support is not just dropping bombs, that's more medium-long range.

No, the F-35 is the worst plane for 'full air superiority' because it's far too expensive, and we won't have enough of them to control the smallest skies for years/decades, and even then they'll be to valuable to use that way.

Yes, it seems like insane overkill to be electronically invisible to fight against people who barely have electricity. Even against the most advanced ground to air systems, our current planes were doing fine. I don't see the need for this in the foreseeable future, just the desire for better, more expensive toys.

transmorpher said:

For sure, I believe that by trying to be all things, it has made compromises in other areas. But perhaps the flexibility is a more important than a few advantages here and there. All of the current US planes are also multi role as well, with the exception of dedicated bombers. So any jack of all trades worries also apply to the majority of the planes that have been in service for the last 30 years. It seems like versatility has been the driving factor for upgrades. So it makes sense a new plane would be designed with versatility in mind.

For things like Close Air Support, I would much rather be in the invisible fast plane, than the bullet proof slow plane like the A-10. You've dropped your bombs before the enemy even know you're there, and before the bombs hit the ground, you're 40KMs away, at an altitude where most ground based missile systems can't hit you(even if they can detect you).

Close air support of that nature of course only happens when you have reached full air superiority, which the F-35 is the best plane for.

It might seem overkill now to have such an advanced plane to drop bombs on people with AK-47's, but you never know how politics can change. Assad might decide to start buying some advanced Russian SAM systems, and that's when a stealth plane will come in handy.

Typical Evo wunderkid...

Payback says...

Don't have to. I have white privilege.

Not really seeing any disagreement in your statement though...

You own an EVO or WRX. Do much rallying? Driven in Pike's Peak? Do you, as the "Bellend" in the video does, just bomb around town acting like you're the shit because you're going fast and getting decent gas mileage?
If you don't do any of that... you're a hipster. You completely wasted your money for "prestige". An EVO or WRX deserves to be driven. It's what they're designed for. At least the douchebag is getting close to using the tool properly.

It's like people who buy 1000cc twin turbo crotch rockets. Either they drive like retarded psychopaths, or they just like that people THINK they drive like retarded psychopaths.

Putting anything "race day" on the street without racing it is sad. Racing it on the street is stupid.

If -and I doubt it- you've actually purchased your vehicle, and you use it properly, congratulations, you're an exception. Nothing is black and white, but if you see one of those cars driving around town, it's a hipster or a douchebag behind the wheel, and you, as the exception, KNOW I'm right.

Isaac Caldiero's Epic Ascent of Mt. Midoriyama

I couldn't figure it out at first.
It did give him the time he had to beat, but on stage 4 I don't think either of them did anything besides their absolute best to go fast (guy 1 certainly didn't TRY to just make it by 1/3 of a second). At first I was thinking that it was like the other stages, he was trying to see how others might do it, but then I realized it's simply climbing a rope, and it's incredibly unlikely either would change their strategy based on how the other contestant climbed. At that point, the only reason I could see for wanting to go second is he got that extra few minutes to rest between stage 3 and 4...and that makes sense to me. Those extra few minutes of rest might be all it took to give him the win.

lucky760 said:

Yes, I totally missed that. Thanks for filling me in. That makes a huge difference.

My guess is the choice to go second was for the money (again, in typical American [and not Japanese] fashion) because if he'd gone first then Geoff would have had the benchmark to beat, and that's a big motivator.

By the way, this kickstarter is going fast! Yesterday there was about 1000 out of 5000 full $600 packages sold, today its 2000+ sold. So if you want a cube , I suggest you get going within the next 7 days.. I ordered mine yesterday. Too bad their estimated shipping is december, but I guess that gives me some time to prepare for next spring/summer!

Cool racing action (formula vee @ bathurst)

newtboy says...

Yeah, when the car weighs nothing, it doesn't take much power to go fast! It's all about power to weight ratio. These cars come close to the power to weight ratio of Nascar cars weighing 3500lbs with 750hp, these weigh 1025 and use 1.6liter water cooled VW motors, making it possible that they have a better power to weight ratio than Nascar, and they definitely handle better.
My off road race buggy had a weight requirement to be at least 1500lbs, I had to add lead weights. Even at that, a 1776 VW race motor almost had it do wheelies! The light weight makes for better handling too, but it also means once you lose traction, it's unlikely you'll get it back. In off road, it also means higher jumps and softer landings.
