Straight is the new gay - Steve Hughes
Sometimes I feel like people have to expend a lot of effort to miss the point so well...
OH&S - We had a MSDS for Spray and Wipe in the office which required us to use gloves and a facemask. Ordinary surface cleaner. And it was enforced... This is what he is talking about. Taking what started as a good idea and going way too fucking far with it.
PC - You kinda prove the point right off the bat with "straight white dude". You're discriminating. You feel justified in doing so because white males are so fucking awful to everyone on the planet (it's true, I heard a feminist say so..), but it doesn't change the fact that it's discrimination. You're either politically correct all the time or you're a hypocrite. I happen to support your right to discriminate, but take issue with hypocrisy.
Smoking - Missing the point, the government makes it socially unacceptable, removes the places where you can do it, but leaves it as legal and runs up the cost to astronomical levels to keep the revenue rolling in. It's an innately contradictory position.
The bit on Ireland was more a commentary on the Irish than smoking...
And of course smokers are one of the few groups within society that almost no one will stand up to defend. Very easy to be non-PC and discriminate against (gotta let all those uptight PC dickheads vent their spleen somewhere I guess... =)
Oppressive health and safety? Oh please can we return to when employers could order me to endanger my life just for a paycheck.
PC? Been down this road a million times, but it's really easy for a straight white dude to talk about not being offended.
Smoking? I give zero fucks if you want to smoke, just don't do it around me. Oh, and I was in Ireland when they banned smoking in pubs. It was fucking great, and yeah, it encouraged a bunch of people to quit.

Welcome to Idiotsville
Not fake at all. They just randomly came across the same big guy every time, and the last prank he was on his way to Michael Jackson Boxing class, that's why he had the glove on...not because these are just staged dumb skits....no...never that.
Why these LEDs glow at all?
Chemical reaction, turns the orange into a battery. LEDs only need 1-3V to turn on so you don't need a very strong reaction. I noticed some of the pins are darker colors, Mr Glove probably dipped one leg in a dissimilar metal or another chemical so the electrons want to move from one pin to the other with the acidic juice as the electrolyte. Look up potato battery for similar experiments.

Detroit Lt. Arrested For DUI
"Any other person would be getting an RO charge"?
Any other person would be tazed, beaten, thrown to the ground, and charged with resisting and assaulting an officer.
Officers should not be allowed to refuse field sobriety tests, breathalyzers, or blood tests whenever there's the hint they may be impaired. It's a real public safety issue.
Even though they did arrest him (they had zero choice), this was just 20 minutes of handling a fellow officer with serious kid gloves. He needs to go to jail.
Woman calls 911 for help, is accused of DUI and Groped
actually, there is no law requiring that a female officer be present or conduct a search of this type. If the search required the female suspect to remove anything beyond a coat, headwear, gloves, or footwear, than a female officer should conduct it as this is considered a strip search. However, a basic pat-down (which was being conducted in this video) can be carried out by a male officer to a female suspect.
Should he have used the back of his hand? Possibly. It's a good practice but once again not a specific regulation that officers have to follow. The back of the hand would not have been effective for the area of the body he was attempting to search. Perhaps he could have used the edge of his hand along the pinkie side. Regardless, there was nothing improper in his search methods, it just wasn't following best practices.
The real travesty here is the use of field sobriety tests being used/manipulated to wrongfully arrest a woman who called for help.
Xian Street Food - Making Chinese Spinach Noodles
I know a guy who cuts brisket at a local barbecue place with a cleaver like that. He wears an actual chain-mail glove on his left hand.
Don't Mix Coke with Liquid Nitrogen
I know, not even gloves!
The acceleration of the bottle in the wide shots is insane, like it doesn't even look real
I love how he puts on a helmet but wears nothing but a t-shirt.
How the Gun Industry Sells Self-Defense | The New Yorker
I'm quite pro gun rights generally, but to me it seems insane that "self defense" is the #1 stated reason for owning a gun in the US now.
Jim Jeffries' bit on self defense covers my concerns in a pretty funny but honest way. In your home, keeping your guns in an accessible place where they could easily be used in a self-defense situation makes them not safe. Much more likely to have accidents, or have a criminal end up with them and using them on you. Securely storing them away from ammo to prevent those issues precludes using them for self defense. Catch-22.
For concealed carry, that's a bit different. With the right kind of setup, I suppose that I must admit that the risks of accidents could be low, the chances of needing to use the weapon low, but some real potential for situations where some people would be better off having a weapon than not.
...There are some *major* caveats to that, though. For example, if I was black, I'd never concealed carry because that seems like a recipe for disaster. Is that fair, or reasonable? Fuck no. But it is reality.
I think personally as a white country-bumpkin dude, if I was going to carry semi-frequently, I'd go with the old redneck standby of a shotgun or hunting rifle on a rack in the back window of my pickup. Lock it to the rack with a combination lock, and keep ammo separately in a glove compartment or something with another combination lock. If I actually needed it, it would be there.
One thing I do agree with @Mordhaus 100% on is that suicides should NOT be considered, or at the very least should be specifically denoted as suicides, when showing numbers for "gun violence" or "gun crimes".
Life-Sized, Life-Like Lego Minifig
To clarify, the main thing that is disturbing is not the costume, but the sheer amount of sweat dripping out of the gloves and the extremely distressing term "ear sweat".
Yeah, that's not going to give me nightmares for a long time.
Graphite and Its Awesome Properties
That was one of his best ones. Just his frustration with his gloves was worthy of the upvote alone!
Drawing one million dots over 90 hours in 3 minutes
many many years ago I used to use points to shade technical drawings (instead of my classmates who used watercolor, I was really bad at that, so I figured something else)
After some time it was killing my fingers / wrists so all I did was simply to get a glove and basically attach an adapter for the technical pen to the index finger, so I could dot by simply moving my index finger down (just like tapping), *much* *much* more ergonomic...
Pointillism is amazing and beautiful. Though it seems to screw up peoples wrists. If that's really the case I hope artists will chose another method. You don't need to disable yourself for us.
Lady Light Laser Girl
Vertical Video Warning!
Neat, and nice idea. She does it well, and looks good doing it.
As for how she does it....simple....dual lasers in each glove, so she can fire one or both at any time, synced with the floor laser.
I really could have done without the 1:15 of dead video at the end, though.
Woman almost hits biker by merging, gets caught by cops
This kind of thing is why my biker buddy wears spiked or studded gloves. When someone comes into his lane like that, his fist goes into their window, or face if the window is open. I'm not normally one to support hitting another person first, but in those cases it's self defense against an assault with a deadly weapon.
Not only did she not merge properly, she accelerated to pass him on the right in order to improperly merge. If she didn't see him there, she's a menace to the public and needs her license taken away, if she did see him there and did that anyway, she's an attempted murderer and needs her license and freedom taken away before she's successful in hitting the next bike.
