Victoria Jackson Argues With A Gay Rights Activist

Victoria Jackson Argues With A Gay Rights Activist

bobknight33 says...

I agree, to think that being gay is ok is sickening.

How foolishly people have become in believing the misleading the media over the last 40 years to promote this wrong behavior as being normal.

TYT: Grindr App Blew Up During Republican Con In Tampa

Quboid says...

>> ^Reefie:

>> ^AeroMechanical:
This is a little immature and sensationalist even by TYT standards.

If it had been a Democrats party conference instead of Republican then the mainstream media would've been all over it and you can guarantee that any immaturity or sensationalism would have been ten-fold over what you see here. At least TYT is cool with LGBT whereas mainstream media would be tutting and frowning at every opportunity.

I doubt that. As an outsider, US news seems as polarized as US politics seems so I would assume that Fox would laugh at the DNC and NBC would laugh at the RNC. However, that aside, this is simply a better story. Liberal, pro-gay rights party has gay people? So? Conservative, pro-bigot rights party has gay people? Scandal!

Which is missing the point. That it would be worse if it was them, even if this was true, doesn't make this any less smug.

Why I Support Julian Assange (Politics Talk Post)

ReverendTed says...

>> ^dag:

Thomas Jefferson said when the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
I don't think the US government is afraid of its people - I wish they were.
I think there's more to the dysfunction in American government than the balance of fear.

"Government" is not a person. Our government is comprised of individuals, every one of them a human being (with the exception of two androids and four pod people). I think they DO fear us, which is why they're so prone to pandering. Worse, though, is that WE are our government. By and large, WE put these people there.
I think one of the biggest problems we have is the two-party system, an unfortunate inevitability of the First Past the Post voting system.
One thing the FPtP video doesn't really mention is what happens once the parties have established their dominance - indoctrination. We're encouraged to side with Republicans or Democrats, and once we've done that, over time we're inclined to start buying into the entire party platform. You can't be anti-abortion and pro-gay-rights. We immediately jump to the defense of any party tenet attacked by our "misguided" opposition. Minor differences of opinion become sacred cows. Perhaps this is a natural herd mentality, a defense mechanism against marginalization, or avoidance of peer conflict.
Whatever the causes, the outcome is gridlock and resentment. Nothing gets done because compromise is weakness. Candidates are only able to rise to power by adhering to the party line.
So I begin my post suggesting that government is individuals, and end by suggesting that individuals cede their power to the parties.
The system is broken. Checks and balances only function when sufficient individual agency is involved.

I love that this is your reasoning as to why they shouldn't send death threats, not that it's wrong, but that they may interpret it in a particular way you don't like.
>> ^TheJehosephat:
Gotta say it, if you are a supporter of gay rights, don't call in death threats to those who are against it. They are (likely) all religious and therefore will take it as "persecution" for their beliefs.

You really want to go down this road? Are you incapable of making any real arguments? fringe elements on both sides make death threats and they're universally reviled and not accepted.

Try again

What Homosexuality Is Not

Look, I think the video itself is quite annoying because yes, I do feel it's a bit preachy.
but the message itself, is quite accurate.
And if it's so obvious, you won't mind stating why homosexuality is not normal.

I totally agree, the video IS "quite accurate," but I stand by my comment. Gays now -quite rightly - are protected by the law, have civil rights and will soon, hopefully, be allowed to marry. They worked hard for their rights, just as woman, and other persecuted minorities, did. My salient point, regarding the video, is that it preaches to the converted, will not change those bigots who will always hate, and that maybe it's time to enjoy their well earned rights and allow time to change the entrenched opinions of the minority. Sadly, going by the comments, ANY criticism of videos like this is tantamount to homophobia, which could NOT be further from the truth.

You are precisely who this video is addressing. YOU are the reason this video exists. YOU, who think that human rights are something "earned" by a minority, not inherent, bestowed upon the disenfranchised who should just feel grateful for the tolerance and generosity of the majority and kindly shut the fuck up about it. You just don't get it.
And THEN, after immortalizing your ignorance and arrogance in prose by releasing it into the ether, not to mention a worldview that likely extends no further than the windshield of your Prius, you refuse to clarify something that should be extremely easy to clarify for someone so enlightened. Yet, you dodge the question by dismissing the asker as incapable of understanding that which you have failed to explain as not worth your time, when, in fact, you are incapable of understanding the question in the first place, as already proven by your demonstrable inability to grasp the underlying issue/reality.
You aren't fooling anybody but yourself.

How you have managed to deduce from my comments that this video is aimed at me is, quite frankly, beyond ignorant. And if you don't think rights are fought for, you know nothing about history. Your notion of equality being a fundamental right is, though commendable, rather childish. In the real world, minorities fight hard to change attitudes and, as with homosexuality, are making good ground which is a credit to them. Now, try reading my comments again with a more objective view and you may, just, see them for support of gay rights and NOT a criticism of them. Sadly though, I doubt you have the ability to do so. I shall not respond again, as you have exhausted my patience.

Yeah, because that's what all our worlds rotate around isn't it? Your patience. Your replies are predictable and very formulaic. Trolls have followed the same blueprint since Compuserve was one of the "Big 3". Let's try something you can actually relate to...

Ya know what, probie? Your eulogising here has started to get tiresome. I mean, be happy that your ilk are allowed to post comments and all that, but do the rest of us have to have your opinions and ideals shoved down our throats just because you can? I mean, I'm happy for you and all... comment away! Seriously, it's something you are allowed to do, so I don't begrudge you that right at all. It's just that... do you have to be so goddamned flamboyant about it?

How to handle gays? Concentration Camp

bareboards2 says...

@Yogi

http://videosift.com/video/Maddow-Obamas-Legacy-on-Gay-Rights

Watch this. Rachel Maddow makes a huge distinction between words and actions.

Too long? Bottom line -- his actions have promoted gay rights while his words have seemed soft. Other presidents have privately said "hey, gay rights" to gay supporters, but their actions led to DOMA, Don't Ask Don't Tell, and something else, I forget.

I hope you watch the video. It is eye-opening.

Religion and Gay Marriage-A Great Logical Summation

Lawdeedaw says...

Woah, just woah. His whole argument was based on the words that came out of his ass-mouth. I guess the fact that he sounded like a fucking prejudice douchebag didn't ruin his argument at all. Because intelligence, research and sophistication are not required for good arguments, just say the right shit that appeals to people's simplistic emotions and you will be a-okay. If this material is uninspired, repeated over and over again just for effect, all the better.

However, reverse this and the guy in the video would be very mad. He would say, "How dare they lump gay people together!" A case in point. I hear so many douchebags say that gays just wanna stir shit up and cause a ruckus and that they don't truly care about gay rights. And while that may be true for a lot of gays who just want to be heard, I am offended. It may not ruin their argument but it's still fucked up to generalize period.

We see mostly eye-to-eye but not here. Not here ever...

Meh. "Failed hard" would be fair if his mistake had had some impact on his argument.>> ^Lawdeedaw:
Okay, so my point is this. He says marriage is forever to most Christians, and then he includes Jews. Wrong douchebag. This is highly inaccurate and he is ignorantly stereotyping Jews. I claim that this guy, while making a great point that gay marriage should be legal, failed hard against accuracy...

Besides that, many lay followers in the religious orders he names, which are the majority of a religious order, do divorce and consider divorce a freedom (At least in America.)
