TYT - Ben Affleck vs Bill Maher & Sam Harris

MichaelL says...

As a Canadian I don't know TYT or know of Cenk other than video clips I come across... We probably exist at the same end of the political spectrum, but, his arguments are often so full of fuzzy logic and bizarre interpretations that I end up disagreeing totally with him.
Here his comments are contradictory, he makes up 'facts' which are simply his opinion, etc, etc.

The Science Of Dice

American Empire - CGP Grey

Dumdeedum says...

Of course empire borders have got a bit fuzzy with the rise of corporations - nowadays you can control most of another country's resources without having to deal with all the paperwork of running a government or the headache of revolutions.

Colbert responds to #CancelColbert

andyboy23 says...

I understand exactly what he's doing. I'm pointing out that it's possible to cross lines, even with racial satire, and that those lines are gray and fuzzy and worthy of our thought, attention, and dialog. You seem to think that when it comes to racial satire, there shouldn't be any lines, whatsoever. That there's always some 100% correct answer to this kind of question, and that answer is "Colbert is righteous".
You're right, my example wouldn't air. Let's say it did though, and there was an uproar from a portion of the black community. Would you still be saying those folks essentially have their panties in a bunch and need to lighten up?

ChaosEngine said:

You're missing the point. It should be offensive. If you're not offended by the ching chong foundation, the cotton picking nigger foundation or the actual "Redskins Original Americans" foundation, there is something wrong with you.

And that's the equivalency Colbert was making. He could actually have gone further and made it the cotton picking nigger foundation and the point would have been even stronger, but there's no way that would have been allowed to air.

American Jewish Dude Gets Queen's Guard To Crack

chingalera says...

Poor guy turned a bout 8 shades of red in 3 seconds

Luckys' right, those fuzzy-hat goons have a that serious inoperable corn-cob obstruction condition. I hear they are all required to carry a recent naked picture of the Queen during her morning constitutions on their person at all times to meditate upon during breaks...

American Jewish Dude Gets Queen's Guard To Crack

lucky760 says...

"Dance, monkey!"

As I understand it, it's actually just the fuzzy-hat guys who are sworn to a career of stonefacedness.

I've seen videos of royal guards smiling or laughing, but never one of those serious mofos. (If anyone has a link to one, I'd love to see it.)

Hudson Cop Rescues Deer Tangled In Christmas Lights

eric3579 says...

Damn you! I was all happy thinking the deer went on his way and all was well. But noooo, you had to chime in and fill me with uncertainty and worry with all your thinking. I'm now just left with anxiety and worry blotting out all nice warm fuzzy feelings i had. Thanks a lot.

newtboy said:

I can't be sure, but that deer looked pretty young. I wonder if it had been abandoned by it's mother after getting caught in the lights, (or when the cop showed up with a knife). This seemed like a case where animal control probably should have been called and/or consulted. The deer may be injured or abandoned, so letting it 'free' might not be the best thing to do for it.
I'll just hope I'm wrong and it's just a small species of deer that was stiff and not a hurt baby one.

Obama scolds O'Reilly. Good for him.

bobknight33 says...

Settle down, this is a leftest site. They don't read or listen to facts. They are just in touch with the warm fuzzies in life that MSNBC airs.

chingalera said:

Bottom-line real shit for any brain-dead motherfucker out there who's still got Obama's back or is, 'tooting his horn', or wants a few minutes in the purple-room to suck his balls?:

He signs an executive order which reads that he can detain an American for any fucking reason, then, is authorized to disappear their ass to Guantanamo (still open), some bunker in Poland, or fuck, under the fucking White House if he just wants to rub salt in awound, and NO ONE, No judge, no family members, no entire state protesting, can do a mo-the-r fucking thing about it...

An evil, lying fuck-stick of a charlatan disguised as a leader, and anyone still drunk on the kool-aids' a complicit buffoon.

Why run to Russia and be prepared to keep on running?? Ask Snowden, or at the very least, listen to what he's fucking saying kids....

Fuuuuck people, read some fucking books!

Chris Hayes takes on Obama's addiction to oil (Keystone XL)

radx says...

"They don't all agree with it, which is why it's not science."

If anyone is looking for absolute certainty, they should turn to their priests, their gurus, their investment brokers, their politicians, their snake-oil salesmen.

The only absolute certainty science can provide is in proving a wrong. Everything else is probabilities and exclusions, all the way to the end.

The fact that the public expects a proof of absolute certainty of a positive is maddening to me. Any assumed equivalency between "not knowing for sure" with "not knowing anything" is frustrating to no end.

Scientists have to enter the public arena and proclaim certainty to match the public's vernacular. If they were to stick to probabilities the way they do within their own realms, they'd fail to communicate the essence of their findings. Just look at how warped the common understanding of "theory" has become.

----------------------------

"Consensus, I repeat, is not science."

Everything scientific that is being communicated publicy is a consensus. The fact that statements of less than absolute, unanimous consensus are met with suspicion and a diminishment of trust in the process itself is one of the reasons why science cannot be properly discussed on the public stage. They cannot present the fuzzy edges of their findings as that would require a qualification in the form of probabilities. A consensus, the greatest common denominator if you will, is the best that can be done. The IPCC's reports are a magnificent illustration of that very issue.

And why can't we talk about the fuzzy edges? About scenarios and their corresponding probabilities? Because people are suspicious, even scared of numbers. Math as a subject is made fun of, a lack of mathematical understanding has become something to be proud of. An intuitive understanding of probabilities is the exception, not the norm. As soon as a prediction doesn't come true, people tend to dismiss the underlying theory, without any regard to the previously attached probability.

That's the climate the scientists have to endure when trying to present their work to the public.

Zina Nicole Lahr made things

Velocity5 says...

@oritteropo

Zina and Pippa Bacca, like many Gen-Yers, thought the world is a fanciful place. More serious people probably wouldn't have died if they were on the same trail as Zina.

Zina and Pippa were both pursuing paths that gave them "warm fuzzies," but would likely result in them being unable to survive except for redistributions from more serious people.

The world is full of frivolous people who have no idea how serious it is. The reason they have no idea is because society encouraged them to be frivolous.

There are secure career paths for people who want to be around creativity. But those careers depend on the same traits all careers depend on: industriousness and defining yourself as being science-minded.

How to Build a Laser Security System

00Scud00 says...

Like the comment says, I've always wondered why businesses keep installing crappy low res cameras that reduce almost everything they see to an indistinguishable blob. Yes your honor, the defendant clearly looks just like the fuzzy black and white blur we see in the camera footage.

Cops using unexpected level of force to arrest girl

chingalera says...

For Sheppard-Did say that there are exceptions to the rule of the 'bad cops' encountered, found many in California to be gentlemen and professionals, courteous, civil, and humane, and still find a few in Texas as well but….Texas is another beast and I let my guard down in the situation described-THESE facts however, do not annihilate the argument that all police are felons because if you stay in the game long enough in the employ of any jurisdiction in the country, you will as a police officer commit an act that is patently felonious, will witness a felony and say or do nothing to righteously call-it-out to either a superior or internal affairs, OR, as is the case with extant procedure I might add to my argument (which you took so personally through affiliation and family, and with as much rage and emotion as myself, -my own failing) be sanctioned to commit acts deemed felonious were they committed by the general public, BY THE BROKEN SYSTEM.

You took it personally to defend your delusion and your family's ties to law enforcement, or simply can't follow the simple argument in which I clarified the facts simply, which is relatively bulletproof.

Your cited examples, and I apologize, I am NOT responsible for your emotional state or that of anyone else by my own, of your own family's humanitarian efforts in the local community, could possibly represent their own guilt or embarrassment of having taken part in such generalized enforcement of the will of the state, "just doing their JOBS" in their later years.

They see shit every day, and it takes a special person not to become the shit they see and I'll give you that-Corrupt systems corrupt other systems. I equate these humanitarian efforts on the part of cops to MAKE UP FOR the bad rap of the felonious activities they witnessed and remained silent on.

Law enforcement is become now simply big-business designed to control humans like cattle, and keep them in-line so that they will feed the machine and perpetuate itself....To create a criminal class and to insure in perpetuity the systems that feed upon the incubators of criminals-in-formation, in the ever-growing prison industry and the shit-heal companies that cater to the systems that make-up the vile web of law enforcement run-amok in the USA.

Sorry if I wrinkled yer sack and brought you to that place of rage and control that ALL police and the children of police hold so dear, it's called faulty imprinting and it's systemic in not only the sick fraternal order of police but in ALL of the dysfunctional society of America.

I do know what police are and they are simply doing what they were programmed to do. My fuck-up was letting my guard down to catch my toe in the meat-grinder of that sick system.Believe me,it will not happen again, as I intend to stroke the dicks of every sheit cop I see in the future, and make their egos feel all warm and fucking fuzzy, with a view to self-preservation.

ALL COPS ARE FELONS
