The most delicious team work goal I've seen in some time..

Quboid says...

The thing about Arsenal is, they always try and walk it in. Looks bloody nice when it comes off

I thought it was offside when it happened. It always looks strange when a player is in so much space and 95% of the time it's because they're offside.

In football (unlike, I believe, other sports with offside rules) it's the exact moment your team mate passes the ball that matters, which is why the director pauses it then.

Fun fact - this means that the assistant referee (the linesman, at the side with a flag) has to simultaneously look at what players are in offside positions and look at the ball to see when it's passed. If the ball is travelling quite far up the pitch, it's physically impossible for the assistant referee to do this.

Additional fun fact - players and fans are extremely forgiving of this and should this impossible situation result in an error that's to the detriment of their team, they will typically smile wryly and think back to a time when they've been the beneficiary.

The previous paragraph may not be entirely accurate.

Sinead O’Connor's Open Letter to Miley Cyrus (Sexuality Talk Post)

blankfist says...

Fun fact, Nothing Compares 2 U was recorded two years before Miley Cyrus was born. Sinéad was 24 at the time. Miley is currently 20. Sinéad is ugly as shit now.

End of fun fact time.

John Stossel Gets Schooled on the 4th Amendment

blankfist says...

"Democratic utopia" aside, you really think 237 years of US history is making things... better? I'd love to hear you elaborate, because it sounds more and more like we're going the way of fascism.

And no small "l" libertarian believes in corporatism. That's right, here's a fun fact for you: corporations are created by government. Given special limited liability the rest of us are not. Given special government subsidies and welfare and even, at times, given eminent domain privileges.

And I love your "go to" disgusting statist answers of "don't like it then get out of my country" and "you must be a birther." Next you'll call me a racist or tell me to move to Somalia. Waiting for that one.

But the truth is you never addressed my real question here, but I'm guessing that was your point. Distraction and obfuscation tends to be the only weapon in the statist's arsenal. Your move, genius.

Ahh the "libertarian" shows his true colors.

For someone accusing me of a strawman, you seem to make some pretty good strawmen yourself.

Never claimed to live in a democratic utopia. Actually working pretty good as 200 years of history is showing. Sure we have problems, no one ever claimed we didn't. Far better than your utopia of a corporate totalitarian meritocracy where morality is apparently found in profit motive. Sorry, but the jury is has been out on the whole democracy vs plutocracy for some time. Sorry that you didn't get the memo.

You really have a problem with Obama personally? Then join the birther nutters and work towards convincing your congress people to impeach him. There are multitude of ways to effect change. The problem...and the beauty of that is that it requires somewhat of a consensus. not outliers filled with paranoia and hate.

hows making stupid one-note charlie submissions to VS working out for you as an agent of change eh?

Don't like your options? then you have yet ANOTHER option, there are plenty of other countries to choose from, pick one of them.

Lead, follow, or get the fuck out of the way. I got no time for armchair quarterbacks who would probably wet themselves if they actually had to make any tough decisions.

Sen. Warren verbally smacks down CNBC's "Squawk Box"

9547bis says...

Fun fact: Adam Smith only made a couple of reference to an 'invisible hand' in passing, and it had a much more limited meaning, to the point of being somewhat at odd with the meaning attached to it today, since it was in the context of protectionism -- as in: "an invisible hand will lead to protectionism and favour the British economy".

That Adam smith bloke has a lot to answer for. There is an "invisible hand" in the market but unfortunately it's inherently attached to a set of absolute cunts!

First Footage of F-35B Vertical Takeoff

coolhund says...

I dont know the exact differences, but I do know that the F35B is fly by Wire, while the Harrier is not. Also the Harrier is extremely hard to fly and there were many accidents involving deaths in VTOL situations. Thats why they only let the best of the best fly these things now, but there are still accidents.
So due to fly by wire, the F35B should be much safer.

Another fun fact is that Lockeed bought the sweep engine technology from the Russian manufacturer Yakovlev, which was developed for their canceled Yak-141.

True Facts About The Tapir - zefrank

grinter says...

Two more fun facts about Tapirs (and yes, these are scientifically accurate):
1) Tapirs can spray urine for several meters and are notorious for urinating on people.
2) Tapirs are usually quite docile, but have a viscous bite which can easily do enough damage to kill a human.

SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE NINJA TURTLES

grinter says...

Turtles do have ears, just not external ones, and they can hear.
The 200 year lifespan is absurd any species that the TMNT's might conceivably be derived from.
Only a few turtle species have worm-like portions of their tongues (used to lure prey).
Rats and turtles are vectors of disease. So are humans.
Transmission of bubonic plague from rat to turtle is not going to happen.
It's "salmonella" no "samonella".
Turtle penises don't really look like that, nor will they reach the same animal's mouth (they are impressive though).

There is more incorrect than correct about this video. It's like they googled "turtle fun facts" and decided to call that "scientifically accurate".
These animals are amazing!.. Stop being lazy; you don't need to make stuff up.

John Howard on Gun Control

Jerykk says...

I love how gun control proponents love to point to Australia as "proof" that gun control works. Hey, here's some proof that it doesn't work! Washington D.C. has some of the strictest gun control in the country. It also has the highest violent crime and murder rates in the country and guns are involved in the majority of those crimes.

Some fun facts:
1) Criminals don't care about gun laws and already obtain guns illegally.
2) Guns are a very effective deterrent against criminals (hence the reason why mass shootings almost always occur in the places where people are least likely to carry guns).
3) Banning guns won't make them disappear, just as banning alcohol didn't make it disappear and banning drugs hasn't made them disappear either.

As for murder sprees (which comprise a tiny portion of overall violent crime and murder), less access to guns wouldn't make them disappear. If someone really wants to kill a bunch of people, they'll figure out a way. The Seattle bombings are proof of that.

Retired police Captain demolishes the War on Drugs

Jerykk says...

I think you're missing the point here. The war on drugs is ineffective because it cannot be won and making drugs illegal only puts the power in the hands of criminals. It also creates tons of drug-related violence. Similarly, banning guns would be equally ineffective, put the power in the hands of criminals and just create more gun-related violence.

Fun fact: Washington, D.C. has some of the strictest gun laws in the country (I think they are second only to New York). However, they have (by far) the highest violent crime and murder rates in the country. In addition, the majority of those crimes are committed using guns. Conversely, the states with much more lenient gun laws (Texas, Alaska, Florida, Maine, Vermont) have significantly lower violent crime and murder rates. So clearly, banning guns won't magically make them disappear, nor will it consistently reduce violent crime or murder.

The war on alcohol didn't work. The war on drugs isn't working. The war on guns won't work either. You may hate guns and love drugs but surely you can recognize the pattern here.

Buck: I regret using the R-word, to me that word does not apply to for ex down syndrome kids, hell, i've lived and taken care of them myself. When i say retarted, it means worse than idiotic.

Comparing guns to drugs is still twisted as hell. Intoxicants are used for intoxication. Guns are used for what? Shooting at things, immaterial or living. Two totally different concepts and worst of all, you disrailed the whole conversation.

Drugs, mainly psychedelics have been with human since the age of consciousness, appearing hand in hand with cavepaintings and spirituality. War on such ideas is not the place to start improving humankind.

TYT - 5 Shot at "Gun Appreciation Day" Celebrations

shatterdrose says...

I'd suggest you do some research on "properly cleared" gun shootings. The whole reason people get shot with a "properly cleared" firearm is because humans make mistakes. Also, the use of quotations is to illustrate a point, which I apparently need to spell out. People get shot when they THINK the gun is cleared. I've sat there and asked 30 people in a room, most familiar with cleaning and the whole 9 yards, and not a single one of them saw the bullet in the barrel. Every single person said the gun was clear, and was completely safe. Now, repeat that several times a week and the numbers really add up.

There have also been cases off firearms discharging on their own. I believe Colt was being sued due to the number of rifles that were discharging without a trigger pull. People died.

Now, if you truly believe a firearm was invented for sport, you have seriously deluded yourself. A firearm is NOT intended for sport. A sporting rifle, yes. They're usually a 22cal, well, sporting rifle/pistol. They look a little funnier, they don't have high capacity magazines, and they fire a small bullet.

However, if you truly truly deep down in your gun loving heart believe an AR-15 was invented for sport . . . well, there's nothing anyone can ever say to make you see reason. If you truly believe hallow point bullets were made for sport, then we live in a very strange world. If you truly believe a recoiless machine gun that fires 30 rounds per minute was made for sport, then the military needs to step up it's game. They really should be using weapons designed to kill their enemy, not shoot little paper targets at a gun range.

I hear napalm was really invented to cure toe fungus, not kill large swaths of enemy soldiers. Swords were made to butter bread. Tanks were made for picking up groceries.

BTW, historical fun fact, black powder is one of the few items originally designed for recreation that was later used for war (Chinese fireworks.) Things like forks, scissors etc were originally designed to kill people, until later other uses were discovered. Like rockets. Our government didn't care that people wanted to go to space, they wanted a rocket that COULD make it to space, but half way there would make a sudden turn and go kaboom. So I guess rockets are 50/50. Guns, well, you're just in fantasy land there.

harlequinn said:

Nobody has ever been shot with a properly cleared firearm. Lots of people have been shot with an improperly cleared firearm. That's the point of saying "properly cleared" versus "improperly/badly cleared". One makes it safe, the other doesn't.

The point isn't that a cleared firearm is useless - the point is that a firearm can be rendered safe. All firearms can and must be made unsafe by loading a round in them to be able to shoot with them.

A firearm is not designed to "solely kill humans". It is designed to accelerate a projectile. It's purpose of use is mainly for sports (see the list I posted above). Yes, it is also used for killing animals (people are animals) but that is no longer its primary use. There is a definitive difference between design and purpose of use. Go look it up if you're interested.

How Velociraptors Will Eat You

Jinx says...

Fun fact: It has been proposed that raptors actually used their claws in a similar manner to their namesake birds of prey - by hooking onto their prey and pinning them under bodyweight. Either way, they probably didn't kill their prey before starting to eat it

Oh, and velociraptor means swift seizer. Thanks wiki.

Important to know the facts should you ever be a victim of a raptor attack. Even if the facts only serve inform you of just how painful your death is about to be.
