'True 3D' Display Using Laser Plasma Technology

elrondhubbard says...

Cool! But the video flickers so much it's kinda hard to watch -- near seizure material. Hopefully that's just a frame rate mismatch between the 3D projector and the video camera, and the image would look much steadier in person.

How to have a very bad day

I do wonder though how those trucks can accelerate so fast in reverse when theres nobody driving, the hill doesnt look that steep.

It just looks like they're accelerating fast due to the low frame rate of the video.

Nyquist theorem at work.

Guys frame rate might actually be quite good...yet camera only captures at a certain resolution (in the FPS sense). Highly doubt it is >2x the FR of the laptop...hence, alias image.......looks like terrible FR on his laptop.

Similar phenomenon creates the 'floating helicopter' videos, where choppers blades appear to stand still, yet they are flying...

Wow, that poor guys frame rate was torture, but the wormhole lecture was interesting.
Also this will probably get cut, bu[cut]

yeah the framerate was bad on his laptop. also, did you notice that he had been playing "a couple hours" and still had the blue-only portal gun? i thought you only had that for like 2 test chambers...

Unreal Engine 3: "Under The Hood" technology trailer

AeroMechanical says...

Perhaps five years is a little long, but there is a big difference between what is technically possible on the cutting edge and what is feasible for a commercial game. The rendering in the video is going at most 15 fps, on what is probably cutting edge hardware. If we want a game to run at 30 fps, we're going to need hardware twice as fast. So in two years you'd be able to run that on the highest end hardware at playable frame rates.

That's the way tech demos have always been.

Those first sequences with the grissly guy and the cyberpunk cityscape are pretty damn impressive. Probably five years away until we get something like that, but damn, that will be cool.

This is rendering on current pc hardware in real time, right now. Unless you are referring to the time needed for a team of artists to put together enough such content for a full game. The technology today can do this, it's just a matter of getting the artists to put it together now.

Excuse me, my face seems to be melting.

apparently they use a type of wax and use a heat "gun". I would assume that in this instance its some sort of slow frame rate, as its obviously not in real time. oh... maybe I should *timeshift this. Yay, I am fantastic.

Tempus II - Amazing Slow Motion

>> ^xxovercastxx:

I think the camera angles, depth of field, view distance, background music, rate changes, mistakes, relatively low frame rate and especially the champagne ejaculation shot all made this quite mediocre in comparison to many of the slomo videos that are out there.
>> ^Unsung_Hero:
No, you have listed a bunch of neat stuff that could look cool in slow-motion. The point Yogi was trying to make is that the "art" portion of this video comes from unique camera angles, setup, different colors used (Primary), engaging background music, the switching of time-shifting, ect... were all carefully constructed to make this video intriguing. And that, my friend, is art.

I'm not sure why you quoted me on this comment, seeing as how we are discussing different subjects. I never said it was "good" art. Just done well enough to keep your attention. I agree, I've seen far better 'Slow-Mo' videos... I was simply just stating that this is in fact art (no matter how mediocre it is).

Moray McLaren - We Got Time

cybrbeast says...

Amazing and no CGI, all hand work.

Using both praxinoscopes and the technique of matching up the frame rate of the spinning record to that of the camera, no computer super-imposing was used; what you see is what rolled off the camera. The transitions between each section of animation was created by simply cutting or wiping between the bits of footage.

All the animations were created, drawn and coloured by the director David Wilson.

I do believe this is a dupe though, but couldn't find it.

Thanks. My problem is free time (0-2 hours a week). I barely play anything these days and still have many old games to play like Oblivion, Crysis, World in Crysis, C&C3:KW, etc.

In reply to this comment by Drax:
No the game is very very bug free now. However, it is a huge time eater though, it can take hours and hours to complete a user made mission. MP Games can be more pop-in, pop-out but it takes longer to do certain things, which is what I love. You feel more like you're in a real war, that's happening in a real environment. Plus you really do want to get some mods going with this game. (kinda like Oblivion, but not nearly as many mods to choose from as that one). It's not a casual game by any stretch.

Oh and also, if you don't have a quad core (or better) performance wont be too hot. The game renders huge areas, with lots of AI activity at times. Frame rates can drop considerably in gun fights if you're just running a dual core (like me). I'm holding off on playing much more of the game till my new rig is built.. gonna be a few months.

I tried the demo, but it was SO buggy and hard to play. Is it still like that?

This is pritty cool .

i know the animatoin frame rate was just the style of it , but for me it could have done with a slighty higher frame rate , and maby used other techneeks to achive a simular style , that way it wouldnt be so hard on the eyes but achive the same artistic affect.
