Fantastic Fluoride
I found some videos by the ADA that also promote the use of fluoride. Although they also don't show any empirical data, they advocate seeking additional fluoride intake if you drink bottled water that is not fluoridated or if you live in an area that is not fluoridated.
http://www.ada.org/public/media/videos/minute/index.asp#fluoridation
One strange arugument they pose is that fluoride is a naturally occurring element in water. I find this strange because there are many naturally occurring elements in water that I wouldn't want to increase my intake of.. such as arsenic,lead,magnesium and radon. While fluoride is helping my teeth, I wonder if it could be harming my other organs and bones based on all the products that use fluoridated water and the fluoride in the public water supply (it seems like it might be too easy to inadvertently take in too much). After all, it's more toxic than lead - which has been banned in the use of products. I've also learned that if the fluoride is unrefined from it's capture process in fertilizer plant smoke stacks then it also contains lead and radons. This doesn't necessarily make me refute the use of mass non-consentual fluoridation. It only makes me question the quality of fluoride that is being used.
Fluoride from China in American Water Supply Problems
The ADA, NSL and CDC all state that flouride is not harmful to us and advocate it's use in our water supply to help prevent tooth decay. It's GOOD for you!
Ok.. fine what's a little bit of extra toxin in our daily diet... it's not like we're getting this fluoride from a dictatorship-style run country with a health violation record regarding it's products exported.
I mean, we're getting top-grade pharmaceutical quality fluoride from nature (according to the ADA). Our politicians and corporate CEOs overseeing the process would have nothing less because they care for their end users.
I mean, it's not like they're siphoning these toxic chemicals (complete with arsenic, lead and radons) in an unrefined and unprocessed state directly from fertilizer plant smoke-stacks. The same ones where they used to emit these fluorides as gasses into the environment and kill off the animal and plant life in the township near the plants (until regulation prohibited them from this process). Now we have an effective method of discarding these toxic chemicals - by putting it in our drinking water.
Absolutely Genius!!!
We should be thankful they're giving us fluoride. According to the Health Science Channel our daily fluoride dosage is what is keeping our tooth enamel from falling apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKgZeeBpBQc
I do find it strange though that this water treatment facility has turned off their fluoride integration and have still yet to investigate why this Chinese fluoride is clogging up their system. The CDC and NSL says it's safe though so we can put away any fears of contamination. Why would they lie to us? That would be scandalous would only serve to harm their reputation on the subject of fluoride. Still, how long would a spectroscopic test take? I don't understand why they haven't shown proof of it being safe. Some empirical data on this batch of fluoride might reassure the public.
Fluoride from China in American Water Supply Problems
Let me see if I have this straight. For two years, they've been finding a certain amount of insoluble residue in their sodium fluoride. And they're just now getting it tested?
Sounds like we have a serious problem a wee bit closer than China.
Fluoride from China in American Water Supply Problems
This is an old Controversy but still a very legitimate one - I find it interesting that the has yet to be a final solution to this - Do the Pros have to outweigh the Cons - and should we settle for any Cons!

Whether this video is bullshit or not. The fact remains that 1 out of every 110 children born has autism. That is unacceptable. So what is the cause if not fluoride in the drinking or vaccines?? I find it hard to believe this is natural. Anyone of you geniuses disputing the video have an answer?
The proper response to such a question is to FUND THE RESEARCH TO FIND THE ANSWER, not merely declare that it must be vaccines or fluoride. With sufficient funding, you can probably get an answer in 20-50 years...and maybe a solution sometime before the human race goes extinct...maybe not.
Proclaiming that we must have an answer, so we're going to blame vaccines is just fucking stupid. Sorry, but there's just no other term for it.
Psychochemical Dumbing-Down of Society
Duckman:
While your statistic is accurate according to the CDC, that is in reference to Autism Spectrum Disorder; there are varying degrees of the disorder, and not every child diagnosed has that severe Autism that everyone is so on edge about. Yes, having the disorder is bad in and of itself, but there are varying levels of the disorder. Here's a list of statistics on the prevalence of types of PDDs from the Autism Society of Canada's website:
"Prevalence of specific PDDs
* CDD Rare: ~ 0.2 in 10,000= ~ 500 Canadians
* Rett's Rare: ~ 1 in 10,000= ~ 3,150 Canadians
* Autistic Disorder: ~ 20 in 10,000= ~ 73,000 Canadians
* PDD-NOS: ~ 15 in 10,000= ~ 47,000 Canadians
* Asperger's: ~ 5 in 10,000= ~ 15,000 Canadians

http://www.autismsocietycanada.ca/asd_research/research_prevalence/index_e.html
Why are the levels of Autism increasing? A very good explanation could be the same reason the levels of diagnosis on other diseases seems to spike with the progression of medical science: We get better at diagnosing illnesses.
If something is causing the disorders to become more common in children, and the public at large, it will be discovered, but at this point there is not sufficient evidence to suggest that anything in our vaccines or our drinking water is creating a neurological disorder epidemic. The burden of proof lies on those who claim it is "not natural", just like those who say God created the Cosmos. For all we know right now it could be natural, and we have just never realized it before.
But, to paraphrase Tim Minchin: "If you can show me how it works and why it works I will spin on a fucking dime, and I'll be embarrased as all hell, but I will admit it with evidence, and I will take a compass and carve "fancy that" on the side of my cock."
NordlichReiter:
I completely agree with you that it doesn't appear that way with our politicians, nor does the mass media help in anyway with the preponderance of getting celebrities to pitch in their own "opinions" on the current state of affairs within our societies. To go back to the Anti-Vax nonsense, Jenny McCarthy is a perfect example; she believes her "mommy instinct" trumps all known medical science and evidence, and now it appears her kid never even had Autism in the first place, but an entirely different neurological disorder:

Psychochemical Dumbing-Down of Society
There's so much wharrgarbl going on in there I almost popped a blood vessel.
Contrary to the "Idiocracy" belief that our society is being "dumbed down", as it were (and, believe me, I still find myself saying this is the case) evidence suggests the opposite is the case. In first world nations across the globe intelligence quotients are rising (and plateauing in some cases, while minority's IQs are still rising), and belief in silly religions and superstitions are falling.
Yes there is Mercury in Thimersol, but it isn't the horrific kind.
Bad Mercury: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylmercury
Thimersol Mercury: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylmercury
The key words there are "Bioaccumulate": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioaccumulate
For a look at the whole "Vaccines/Thimersol causes Autism" wharrgarbl, I rebuke with a video I posted to the sift a while back: http://videosift.com/video/Do-Vaccines-Cause-Autism-A-Detailed-Examination
Oh, and hey! How about the fact that Dr. Wakefield, the father of the whole Vaccine/Autism debacle with his article published in The Lancet was discredited finally!
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2010/02/02/and-now-the-antivax-failure-is-complete-the-lancet-withdraws-wakefields-paper/
As for the whole "Flouride" wharrgarbl I'd just recommend reading the Wiki's Article on Water Flouridation, in particular this section right around paragraph 3: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridation#Ethics_and_politics
(Emphasis mine)
"Conspiracy theories involving fluoridation are common, and include claims that fluoridation was motivated by protecting the U.S. atomic bomb program from litigation, that (as famously parodied in the film Dr. Strangelove) it is part of a Communist or New World Order plot to take over the world, that it was pioneered by a German chemical company to make people submissive to those in power, that behind the scenes it is promoted by the sugary food or phosphate fertilizer or aluminum industries, or that it is a smokescreen to cover failure to provide dental care to the poor.[19] One such theory is that fluoridation was a public-relations ruse sponsored by fluoride polluters such as the aluminum maker Alcoa and the Manhattan Project, with conspirators that included industrialist Andrew Mellon and the Mellon Institute's researcher Gerald J. Cox, the Kettering Laboratory of the University of Cincinnati, the Federal Security Agency's administrator Oscar R. Ewing, and public-relations strategist Edward Bernays.[84] Specific antifluoridation arguments change to match the spirit of the time.[85]"
The video is right; let's get the facts. And if your facts only support your "New World Order", "omfg they're trying to control our minds" nonsense, well then, those are your "facts". There's a funny thing about why smart people believe weird things; read about it in Michael Shermer's "Why People Believe Weird Things". It showed me the error of some of my foolish beliefs as well.
And I'm at the point where I wonder why I bother doing this, I'm talking to walls and making friends with no one. I guess I just care too much about seeing fear mongering bullshit like this peddled as if it has any rational backing whatsoever.

I think that many factors assist people staying in stasis regarding the development of their mind and person beyond their current state.
Many of these factors having nothing to do with conspiracy, but simply trying to reach the lowest common denominator. I guess the prime example that comes to mind is TV. The vast majority of the airtime is for entertainment or to sell you things, not to broaden your mind. I must admit that I don't watch TV anymore, but I have a few weaknesses for a few shows that I'll watch online and Videosift allows me a peek into that world (And yes, as soon as I get that side-business up and running, I'll become a charter member again.)
Fluoride has some benefit, but only topical application has been proven useful for adults. The main argument for children is that it becomes part of their adult teeth which makes them stronger. I don't mind the fluoride treatment at the dentist's office. HA... I remember a great laugh I had when I went to a new dentist. The assistant said they were going to do a fluoride treatment to which I responded, "I listen to late night AM radio. You're not going to get me with your mind control!" The look on her face was simply precious. I let her know that I was joking and we moved on. Putting that aside, I tend to avoid fluoride outside of the dentist's office. Oh I just did a google search... I use a Brita filter and looks that that doesn't remove it at all. Well, I'll look into that later.
I remember when I was talking with a counselor several years ago, he was surprised about how I was talking about wanting to actively work on growing more mentally and emotionally mature. He said he had been a counselor for many years and this was a common occurrence back in the 60s and 70s, but these days most people only go the the counselor when they have something "broken" that they have to fix. An emotional triple-bypass, if you will.
As for vaccines, I don't care for them much, but I had them forced down my throat in the military. Luckily, I was able to get out of the anthrax vaccine because they ran out and then the 3 marine guys were successful in temporarily halting it because it was never approved by the FDA. I don't think I've had a vaccine since I've got out. I'm not dead set against them, but mercury isn't a good thing for you. I'm sure a small bit would be fine, but the amount and frequency of vaccine shots people/children are supposed to get these days surely can't be good. If it was something dangerous and I was going into an area known for it or if their was an outbreak - I'd take it. But I'm personally against the yearly flu vaccine.
Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor - Google Tech Talk Remix
"The system makes the reactor self-regulating: When the soup gets too hot it expands and flows out of the tubes- slowing fission and eliminating the possibility of another Chernobyl."
Please read the article in Wired...it points out that most of the existing nuclear power waste is in the form of Thorium, which requires no further processing to be used as fuel for this reactor.
For another thing, this is interesing:

>> ^Stormsinger:
I'll support nukes -after- we have some place to safely store the waste for a few millennia. If several decades of need hasn't provided sufficient motivation, I see no reason to think we're going to get better in the future.
This continual desire to take the easy road and crap in our nest first, while leaving the cleanup for later is what got us into this mess.

Holy Grail of Energy?
No, this is the holy grail of energy:

Anti-nuclear debate: democracy now
There are solutions for the "waste problem"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveling_wave_reactor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioactive_waste#Transmutation
There are also designs for passively safe systems like the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor, or pebble beds
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pebble_bed_reactor
Passively safe means no risk of meltdown on a basic level.
I can't stand that most lefties are so vehemently opposed to nuclear options, usually without having done any research.
Anti-nuclear debate: democracy now
That was not really a debate, there was only 1 side given in the report.
Also he says that nuclear power is a failed technology from the 20th century, he's wrong in that nuclear energy has huge untapped potential (as long as it's done right), the fact it's from the 20th century means nothing, should we give up food cause that was like, you know, so last century.
Having said that, leaking tritium sounds incredibly bad, substances with a half life of over 12 years shouldn't really be leaking into water supplies.
As far as putting money into this tech and not solar etc, did Obama not sign the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act a while ago which gives $90'ish billion to those kind of techs? Or did solar/wind power tech's get completely overlooked even with that huge investment, maybe someone has more information on that.
Lastly, the liquid flouride thorium reactor talked about at the google tech talk looked promising, i wonder if this kind of tech was even considered
