In my Catholic experiences, the congregation is expected to keep totally silent except for during specific rituals.
This doesn't look like a typical Catholic church, though: the priest is wearing short sleeves, the walls are sheetrocked, fluorescent lighting, a frickin projector. It's awfully modern looking.

They did not.
If this really worked without outside electricity added, they could put panels of the algae and reactors outside and run the white light (now inside the algae tank) indoors as a living solar panel/light setup, I note they did not do or even suggest this.
Without the 'magic', unmentioned light/electricity generating portion, this is NOT a new idea in the least as he claimed, people have advocated using simple algae and micro algae to scrub CO2 for decades, and usually in sun light rather than electric light so it's better than carbon neutral. What this really seems to be is a filter you can put OVER a light to make it produce some O2, but it also gives off far less light. There is no indication whatsoever from the video that this is intended to produce light or electricity itself without external power. I can't see where the poster got that idea. Perhaps they are involved in the project and want 'investors' that can't see the difference and can't do any research?

If you follow the chain of reposting and adding more sensational claims that goes through shashdot and their source geek.com you eventually arrive at this site, which has already redacted it's claims about the algae in the lamp producing any light or power.

Going only from what's said in the video, I think the entire point is carbon sequestration. But keep in mind the algae is also absorbing some of the light from the lamp, requiring the use of more lamps to light the same area.

Don't drink on them, though! I made that mistake recently and was taken for a RIIIIIIDEE! This is why such things should be legal because since I quit my job, I was having a blast, going to the beach, partying with friends - but had been looking for some for a little while. They present themselves at the wrong/right moment - I'm already drunk - I know better but hey I'll just have a nibble. It was fantastic but I remember thinking this guy was Huter S. Thompson giving me a psychological test. I know it sounds cheesy but it really was like that!! It was awesome but very strange. If they were perfectly legal (which I think they should be) then I wouldn't have been so stoked to toss myself into the fluorescent lights of... the porch in lower-haight I was hanging out on hahah!

What about fricken rainwater tanks? All new houses built in Australia require them now... and guess what? They give you heaps of water for watering any lawn you may want or your veggie patch or your fruit trees, or your small wheat crop.


Geesh, calm down. We actually have a shared rainwater tank here -- the groundwater that I already mentioned.

I calculated the electrical cost of running my sprinklers, and it came to 5 or 6 dollars a month. So yes, there's some carbon impact.

When I say 3 months a year, I don't mean 3 months of continuous operation, you realize? It's 2 and half hours every morning. In the Fall and Spring the grass doesn't need watering, and in the Winter it's under snow.

Anyway, if you want to yell at me for not being low impact, do so because I live 20 miles from work. I don't want to, but I don't have a choice.

Actually, I'm curious about your electrical consumption since you're shaming me for mine. I live in a state with one of the lowest per-capita carbon emission rates. I have aggressively programmed electronic thermostats and compact fluorescent lights. I run my air conditioner only about 30 days out of the year. I wonder if you're not actually living a higher impact lifestyle by trying to live in an arid area?

Love this video, almost got splattered today cycling home in the bike lane, wearing my helmet, fluorescent yellow condom, going about 40 Kmh/24Mph on straight road, car pulls up along side, passes me then swings into a tennis club, had to lock both wheels to avoid.

HAve the whole thing on video, had a HD camera running on the handlebars, so I got moving and went into the car park after them just to say you nearly hit me, would you like to see what happened, BUT as I got close I realised it was my neighbours I've known all my life! so I chickened out, its still going on youtube though
