Re-discovering Diablo II because of D2MultiRes (Blog Entry by JiggaJonson)

Tymbrwulf says...

I loved this game. For a video game nerd I'm surprised you only recently heard about the resolution fixes. They've been around forever! Even before these fixes came out everyday programmers were hacking this game to extend the resolution past 800x600 as far back as 2004, but I guess this just makes it easier. I "officially" quit back at the end of 1.09d. I walked into a random game, wrote "FREE STUFF" and started dropping my enigmas, occy rings, etc etc. It was an odd feeling and looking back on it I should have sold it on ebay.

>> ^EndAll:
I started Diablo again about a month ago, too, for the first time in years.. getting tired of it though. You leveled quick!

Sharkwater - Full Documentary

Fletch says...

Agreed. I saw this for the first time last year. An incredible documentary that can induce so many different emotions in the viewer, at least for me. Profound awe, sadness, anger, and, ultimately, near the end of the movie, hope, all within about 90 minutes.

Alamut, historical novel on Hassan Ibn Saba & the Assassins (Books Talk Post)

Krupo says...

Actually it's more like the modern terrorists are inspired by the legend of the Assassins.

"First published sixty years ago, Alamut is a literary classic by Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, a deftly researched and presented historical novel about one of the world’s first political terrorists, 11th century Ismaili leader Hasan ibn Sabbah, whose machinations with drugs and carnal pleasures deceived his followers into believing that he would deliver them to a paradise in the afterlife, so that they would destroy themselves in suicide missions for him."

BZZZT - fail to the book reviewer for equating research potentially with the non-fiction side anyway - they were very much anti-drug. These were professional killers and the whole idea of drugs to brain-wash people is, at best, a way to wash away the power of ideology in encouraging people to follow their leader's call to wipe out their enemies. See http://www.amazon.ca/Secret-History-Assassination-Paymasters-Revealed/dp/1845297660 to refer to my source on that.

Mitchell and Webb - Social Misunderstanding

I've been touched by these horrors first hand. Some years ago, I was staying at a friend's house with his wife and two sons. Now, this was one of the most cluttered homes in Britain, stuff stacked floor-to-ceiling against every wall, and big piles in the middle of most rooms.

Needing a pee in the night, and having forgotten to find out where the bathroom was, I couldn't go searching for it for fear of bringing the whole bloody house down. So I went in a mayonnaise jar - and completely forgot about it in the morning. So I just left a jar of piss sitting in their living room.

They never mentioned it.

Top Gear Reviews Tesla, Smokes Lotus Elise Off The Line

NobleOne says...

What is so disappointing about this video is that the first half is for the Tesla then the last half is all about destroying it. Same shit they did to Preston Tucker. Also side note Lotus has been producing cars for over 50 years Tesla just produced their first car this year and still beat the Elise. Lost a mild amount of respect for Top Gear.

Bushed! - 12/11/08

That last question is quite pertinent.

It's hard to believe that the Bush administration could have hurt this country so much without having set out to do so in the first place.

Twenty years on prison might wipe the smirk off Bush's face.

Conspiracy by liberals to ruin Dick Cheney

NetRunner says...

I can't believe people want to charge Saint Cheney with having committed a crime.

For god's sake, he's Obama's Islamic, Lying Cousin. I know that the media is shameless about digging into the President-Elect's family, but if the last 8 years have taught me anything, it's that the media shouldn't question anything the President does for the first 5-6 years of his administration.

Anything else would be treasonous.

Not to mention, they're charging Bush's mentally handicapped friend from Texas, Alberto Gonzales. That's just not fair! Fortunately, the man's probably already forgotten all about it, and will forget to show up at his trial, and forget to heed the subpoenas when they arrive.

It's not his fault, he was born without the ability to recall his own criminal wrongdoings!

Personally, I'm tired of all these liberal activist judges from the blue state of Texas picking on their native son President, George W. Bush.

Don't they know that when God wrote the Consitution, Article III says "Thou shalt not question Republican President's absolute authority, but thou shalt not respect Democratic President's authority at all?" I mean seriously, guys, didn't they teach you that when you were getting your law degree from Pat Robertson's Liberty University, or at your neighborhood GOPAC cell?

Seriously, it's like you all have forgotten the Golden Rule of Conservatism: take whatever you want, however you can!

Repeated use of "the Wilhelm scream" over the years in movies

videosiftbannedme says...

Ugh. I guess I'll be the only dissenting view here. As a certified movie nut, I can't stand the Wilhelm scream. Because it is in everything. But, I also watch more movies than the average person, so I would notice it more often. As you know, familiarity breeds contempt.

There's also a female "Wilhelm" that is very overdone as well. I first heard it years ago on a sound-effects-for-video-production CD (which I still have somewhere) and I've heard it used in at least 25-35 separate movies/tv shows/video games/etc. But nowhere near as bad as the Wilhelm, as evidenced by the above clip.

Oh well.

Open Letter To Mother (Femme Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

I think swampie's probably right, chogs. I've checked occasionally to see who's been logged in today, and it seems like it's been a little quieter than normal for a Sunday. Plus there's a lot of lovely Spring weather today in the US, so maybe folks are taking advantage of that. (I know it sounds weird, but some people still actually like to go outside these days.) I took advantage of it by mowing my lawn for the first time this year. Yeah, I really know how to enjoy Spring, baby.
