Driver Uses A MATCH To Look Into His Gas Tank.

messenger says...

He could have kept his kid safer and saved the car by not getting out of the car at all, and just driving on.>> ^renatojj:

There's also the issue of the other driver, who's got the shelter value and escape potential of his car, but instead of driving off, decides to take his kid outside, walk away, and abandon the car to a fireball. wtf?
child > car

and he gets to show his kid a cool 'splosion!

Rare Daytime Fireball Seen Over Texas

Rare Daytime Fireball Seen Over Texas

Fletch says...

"It was like a fireball falling right outa the sky."

The lead quote on a story about a fireball falling out of the sky, because nobody would understand what the anchor was talking about when he threw to a story about a fireball falling out of the sky.

- "Sir, can you describe what the fireball looked like?"

- "It was like a fireball falling right outa the sky."

- "Out of the sky? It was... descending? And on fire?"

- "Yup."

- "Thank you, John. Let's go back to the studio for more on this amazing fireball from the sky. Randy? Delaine?"

What!
Oh yeah April's fireball season everyone knows that!

Funny how NO other astronomical phenomena outside of the earth-moon system is synchronised to the earth's rotation around the sun..

That would require a static patch of asteroids to hold position relative to the sun for us to pass thru every solar cycle at the same time.. And to enter the atmosphere over the Americas every year.. And where's last years clip..

Not saying its not possible but these idiots seem rather keen to accept this astonishing explanation..

The Louis Experiment - What does it mean? (Standup Talk Post)

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Nice write-up. Although I think it's great that Louie is skipping the middle-man, my worry is that this approach doesn't scale.

Imagine if the top 30 comedy headliners all did this on their own websites. The novelty is gone and the content does not get the adoring press on sites like ours. Having to track down individual websites and go through their registration process is not really hard, but probably too much to ask the lazy invisible hand of self-interested consumers.

When that happens you have to think about aggregating that content, marketing plans, promotion and then ... you're back in the same boat with needing a distribution engine and lots of middle men.

On justifying torrenting, Daring Fireball pulled out a great quote from that Louie AMA on Reddit:

To steal from someone and not feel bad, you either have to be a sociopath or view the act differently. One way is to remove “Someone” from the equation. You’re not stealing from a person. Big companies do a lot to help people view them as less than human. I heard a speech by Noam Chomsky who said that corporations are like super humans. They cannot be hurt like a human can and they never die. They are not susceptible to scrutiny or accountability. This makes them more profitable. If companies want to enjoy these benefits to some degree they have to live with what else comes with being not human. You miss out on compassion, forgiveness, camaraderie, empathy, trust all kinds of shit.

That's how I justify my limited torrenting. It's a faceless company. I try to limit it to TV. And also tell myself that if something like Hulu was available in Australia I would pay and watch through that mechanism. For many shows, torrenting is the only path available for me to watch in this country.

Toddler Flips Out Over Angry Birds

westy says...

Put it this way , if you replaced all the art work in crush the castle with angry birds most people would think it was angry birds.

I don't mind people taking concepts and only changing a small part but the issue with angry birds is that angry birds is so little of a change and yet they capitalized fincaily on it so much more and gets all the recognisoin.

Good Flash games consistently gets ripped off / coppied / used as fundimentals of game play , but not attributed . then as a result popular consensus is that flash games are the ass of the games industry when in reality some amazing products addictive/fun games have come from it.

No, no, no... Scorched earth and worms are totally different games from Angry Birds and Crush the Castle. Yes, they use physics. So do a million other games. Yes, you shoot things, just like a hundred million other games. But Westy's right. Angry Birds and Crush the Castle are set up in almost exactly the same way. Total ripoff. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
The target being physics-based (cages, boards, bricks falling and breaking things below it) is different, but the physics-based shooting is the same. Angle, power, type of ammo, possible interference of map structures; some games made you consider wind strength and direction. That's the core of the game (for me), and I've seen it hundreds... well, lots of times.

We may be talking about two slightly different things. I'm addressing the gameplay aspect, and I think you and Westy are talking more about IP copycatting. Like if RoTT had large floating pumpkins that shot fireballs similar to Doom's Cacodemons. The catapults in Crush the Castle are different than the slingshots in Angry Birds, but the targets are set up the same. I can see why that part looks like a rip-off.

Wellllllp,

The airplane is a p-51 Mustang from the WW2 era, apparently equipped with multiple modern recording devices. While mid-flight a piece from the tail end of the aircraft (edit: the piece is the elevator trim tab) broke off, affecting the planes ability to maneuver effectively, causing catastrophic failure and the pilot lost all control on a turn. The plane then pitched up and took a sharp turn downwards as it nose dives into a luxury box-seat area killing dozens and wounding 70 or so.

While the tragedy in this story is obvious, the physics are not. Notice the lack of explosion upon impact or shortly there after. Usually there is a massive fireball that proceeds a crash like this and it has baffled scientists and engineers alike.

In reply to this comment by Shepppard:
I would REALLY like some backstory on this.

What was going on? Was it a race, or an air show? what the hell was the pilot doing in the first place, the angle of that descent means he either did the most boneheaded loop ever, or something went catastrophically wrong.

I'm not even happy having watched this. It's not exactly snuff, because we don't explicitly see anybody die (I mean, obviously the pilot, but we only see an after explosion) but even still, I'm uncomfortable watching it. However, just because I'm uncomfortable watching it, doesn't automatically make it snuff.

ehh.. one way or the other, I see controversy brewing with this video.
