Formula 1 Driver Kimi Räikkönen Cuts the Grass

gorillaman says...

Oh man, Raikkonen. My favourite was when he went to get an ice-cream while everyone else was sitting on the track waiting for a restart that would never happen. Then eventually leaving while a Ferrari spokesman assured us he was still ready to race.

Coulthard on team orders

AeroMechanical says...

For open wheel racing, Indycar is where it's at these days IMO. Since they changed to the DW-12 chassis, lost the stupid blocking rules and brought in some new talent and sponsors, the racing has been fantastic. Unfortunately, I don't care for oval racing, but it looks like its weighing even more towards road and street courses next year.

I wouldn't want F1 to become a spec series, but they need to do something to either make the racing closer or the technology development more interesting. The WEC has been the most interesting development series lately. It's guaranteed that Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault would never allow it, but opening up the engine regulations to allow more freedom could bring in other manufacturers itching to show off their hybrid technology as something sexy and powerful.

Crazy Dentist Visit - Cyanide & Happiness

poolcleaner says...

Dental implants aren't covered by insurance, because they're cosmetic. In fact, most (all?) executive dental plans provided by major corporations don't even cover them.

I paid 2k for a dental implant after talking my dentist down from 5k. Why did I pay this hefty price instead of getting a bridge, which is covered by my usually very decent insurance? I did it to save my surrounding teeth, which would have been widdled down to nubs in order to support the bridge (that's why it's called a bridge).

Bridges should be an outdated procedure, replaced by the superior implant, because we have the technology to avoid it.

But, well, we highly value the SUCCESS of dentists and insurance company scam artists, who desperately need new Ferraris. Afterall, they paid successful education scam artists to become dentists and insurance zombies, so they need to pay off them loans -- with your money, of course.

Oh it's a vicious first world cycle. lol

$9000!?! Sooo...is that with or without insurance? Because I'm not sure if you've heard, but our prez has this new fangled ACA out and it's supposed to be dope.

The aero changes are for safety, the cars get faster every year and need to be slowed down.

The engine changes are to make the development more relevant to road car development... did you see the Ferrari sports car that uses a hybrid system entirely to make it more fun to drive instead of trying to save fuel?

Do they make these changes for more competitive racing (More compelling to watch) or are their other reasons? Outside of safety of course.

It's raining rocks in Sicily

*backup=[...snipped...] and thanks to dailypicksandflicks.com for finding the original video, which I hadn't.

p.s. The filmmaker posted a comment to liveleak:

I'm the filmmaker, I'd like to share a couple of notes.
The "raining" of ashes from Mt. Etna is not rare, but this time it was unusually intense. Some towns nearby were hit even harder.
It lasted more than 30 minutes.
Yes, cars got scratched, some windshields got chipped. But no Ferrari's or Lamborghini's around!
The biggest pain is to clean up, we have to collect ash into sacks and stash them at the corners for a special service to collect them. It will take weeks to get rid of it all.
We have to wear masks while cleaning because thin ashes are believed to hurt your lungs.
Pompei was not covered with the same kind of ashes, but with a massive cloud of gas and burning ashes that can be found only at the top of Mt.Etna. We're safe down here (~60Km from the volcano.)
@caar1970 at 1:27 I'm wiping ash from a tiled floor, not a car.
@Joxed My vespa can handle dirt very well. It's not unsafe if you drive slow like I did.

Tesla Burning on Roadside ~ Kent, WA. 2013

EvilDeathBee says...

Seriously? This caused the stock to drop when it's probable it had nothing to do with the car itself? What happened to Ferrari's (I think it was Ferrari) stock when they had multiple instances of the same model burst into flames, a few years back?

Michael Hastings: Police and Fire TOLD not to comment

volumptuous says...

Why would someone buy a pretty fucking fast-ass sports car if he drives like a granny?

Sure it's not a Ferrari, but it's a very quick stature vehicle.

Also, why was he driving at 4:25AM?

moodonia said:

His friends said that they couldnt understand this because he "drove like a granny". I'd say he was probably murdered, wouldnt be the first journalist to be murdered over a story.

I should hate this kid, but I gotta give him credit -- not for owning 3 Ferrari's, but for being as well-spoken as he is. Or do all 12 year-olds string coherent thoughts together like this nowadays?
