Launching an anvil 200ft in the air with black powder

Best Story Ever.

blankfist says...

Wait, wait, wait. There are some plot holes in his story. What logging company continues to chop down trees as men in camo fatigues are firing automatic rifles around them? Also, why is there already clothing in the closet if they're just opening it now? I don't think this is real.

G20 protester snatched off the street by unmarked car

spawnflagger says...

Ok, I'm from Pittsburgh, and I can tell you that a vast majority of the cops were brought in from elsewhere, as well as a vast majority of the protestors & anarchists were not from Pittsburgh. Yes there were more cops than protestors. Perhaps it was an over-reaction, but it was based on the precedent of events in London and Seattle. Many of those brought in were national guard. I can't speculate on who wears what kind of camo/fatigues - most were dressed in dark gray & black riot gear. From the video (no where near downtown) I would guess that they targeted this particular individual, and just removed him out of the crowd to the police line that was 50 ft away. I couldn't see any plates or lights on the car - most undercover cop cars are easy to spot, so this might have been a civilian vehicle.

Personally I was disappointed that there were so many cops, yet the anarchists got away with breaking so many windows. (this was probably because most of the cops were in the downtown area, and most of damage was in other neighborhoods outside of downtown). What point are they trying to prove? "ooh, I'm 19 years old and being repressed by the evil government, so I'll get back at them by breaking windows of a local business!!" Unless your goal is to provide work for local window replacement companies, it's pointless.

But in the end there were several peaceful protests as well (much larger turnout than you see in these videos), and no major damage or injuries, so it's probably better to err on the side of caution.

The channel 11 news (nbc) interviewed the girl who was on video from the previous night getting arrested for throwing her bike at the riot cops. Now that was entertainment... What did she think was going to happen?

Also, I disliked all the reporters comments about how downtown turned into a ghost town for 2 days - well that's what happens when the secret service quarantines a 16 block area and nearly every road in and out of downtown. All the businesses closed because it's too much hassle for employees and customers to even get there.

Doesn't seem to be a fake.

Officials with G20 security released the following statement to Raw Story and other media outlets:

“Military members supporting the G20 Summit work with local law enforcement authorities but do not have the authority to make arrests. The individuals involved in the 9/24/09 arrest which has appeared online are law enforcement officers from a multi-agency tactical response team assigned to the security operations for the G20. It is not unusual for tactical team members to wear camouflaged fatigues. The type of fatigues the officers wear designates their unit affiliation.

Prior to the arrest, the officers observed this subject vandalizing a local business. Due to the hostile nature of the crowd, officer safety and the safety of the person under arrest, the subject was immediately removed from the area.”

ahem, now that i have an extra power point, *promote . BTW, about over-vaccinating soldiers, I got my latest round about a week ago, including anthrax. Those things suck, and for some reason waking up in the morning has been twice as hard since and I've been fatigued.

I'm still feeling the effects of my fatigue so I went back to this blog post and started to read your dietary analysis. I started to get excited until a certain point I realized that the diet you've planned for me is typical to what I eat now. Other than I enjoy sandwiches, so I like to use bread at lunch and I enjoy eggs at breakfast. I'm going to try this a little more closely. Maybe cut out anything I have with "a nutrition label". We'll see how that goes.

Second, you need to eat less carbs. A low carb diet will slow you down for the first week or so as your body goes through keitosis.

I find it quite interesting that we have not only the same (correct ) views on political systems, economic systems, and human rights...but we have the same view on nutritional science. If I had to guess, I would say it must be the personality trait of "intellectual curiosity."

I digress...

rottenseed - take it from me, your friendly libertarian free-market economist nutritional scientist,

You are tired because you are
1. Not sleeping well
2. Not eating well
3. Overexerting yourself
4. Chemically/Biologically flawed

I'm going to take a guess and say 3 and 4 aren't the case, so heres my advice:

To improve sleep:
- Double check the sleep apnea (do you breath through your nose or mouth when sleeping?)
- Do you wake up throughout the night? Even if you are in bed for 8 hours, if you keep waking up you aren't getting good sleep. Try sleeping in a pitch black room - it will help you sleep soundly throughout the night.

To improve nutrition:
- I'm guessing you are on the typical American diet, 70/20/10 Carbs/Protein/Fat aka the fast track to diabetes, heart disease and cancer. While the long term side effect of this diet are quite fatal, the short term side effects aren't so great either: lethargy and lack of energy.
- Food is the most powerful drug known to man. The advice I'm about to give you will not only extent your life, it will increase your energy and happiness while you are alive. Heed this advice for even a single week and you will literally feel better than you ever have in your life:

1. Try not to buy anything with a nutritional label - so avoid flour, sugar, bread, rice, cereal, baked goods any thing which has a "Daily recommended value" listed on it.
2. Shop only on the outside walls of the supermarket. This means fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, beef, poultry, pork, and seafood.
3. Eat these foods 3-4 times a day in approximately the following ratios:

Meat: One serving the size and thickness of your palm
Vegetables/Fruits: One serving equal to what you can hold on both hands
Nuts/Fat: One serving equal to the size of your thumb

These are helpful guidelines, what you are aiming for is increase your dietary intake of protein to induce ketosis with sources such as fresh meat and poultry, increase your intake of monounsaturated fats with sources like olive oil, avocados, and nuts, and replace the glucose-spiking refined carbohydrates prevalent in an American diet with high-vitamin, low GI carbohydrates such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Try this for even 3 days, and you'll see a massive difference.

Breakfast
Bacon
Fresh cantaloupe and watermelon
Smoked Almonds

Lunch
Black Forest Ham
Mixed fruit (blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, grapes)
Avocado
Feta cheese

Dinner
16 oz grilled rib-eye steak
Asparagus
Green beans
Brazil nuts

Proper procedure for CPR.

* Untrained. If you're not trained in CPR, then provide hands-only CPR. That means uninterrupted chest presses of about two per second until paramedics arrive (described in more detail below). You don't need to try rescue breathing.
* Trained, and ready to go. If you're well trained, and confident in your ability, then you can opt for one of two approaches: 1. Alternate between 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths, or 2. Just do chest compressions. (Details described below.)
* Trained, but rusty. If you've previously received CPR training, but you're not confident in your abilities, then it's fine to do just chest compressions.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/first-aid-cpr/FA00061

Remember stay calm, breath normally, and use the whole body for compressions. Using the arms will only cause fatigue.

Don't stop CPR unless the patient is moving or Medical Professionals have arrived on scene.

Eric B. & Rakim - Casualties Of War

MrFisk says...

Casualties of war; as I approach the barricade
Where's the enemy? Who do I invade?
Bullets of Teflon, bulletproof vest rip
Tear ya outta ya frame with a bag full of clips
Cause I got a family that waits for my return
To get back home is my main concern
I'ma get back to New York in one piece
but I'm bent in the sand that is hot as the city streets
Sky lights up like fireworks blind me
Bullets, whistlin over my head remind me...
President Bush said attack
Flashback to Nam, I might not make it back
Missile hits the area, screams wake me up
from a war of dreams, heat up the M-16
Basic training, trained for torture
Take no prisoners, and I just caught ya
Addicted to murder, send more bodybags
They can't identify em, leave the nametags
I get a rush when I see blood, dead bodies on the floor

Day divides the night and night divides the day
It's all hard work and no play
More than combat, it's far beyond that
Cause I got a kill or be killed kind of attack
Area's mapped out, there'll be no, Stratego
Me and my platoon make a boom wherever we go
But what are we here for? Who's on the other side of the wall?
Somebody give the President a call
But I hear warfare scream through the air
Back to the battlegrounds, it's war they declare
A Desert Storm: let's see who reigns supreme
Something like Monopoly: a government scheme
Go to the Army, be all you can be
Another dead soldier? Hell no, not me
So I start letting off ammunition in every direction
Allah is my only protection

But wait a minute, Saddam Hussein prays the same
and this is Asia, from where I came
I'm on the wrong side, so change the target
Shooting at the general; and where's the sergeant?
Blame it on John Hardy Hawkins for bringing me to America
Now it's mass hysteria
I get a rush when I see blood, dead bodies on the floor

The war is over, for now at least
Just because they lost it don't mean it's peace
It's a long way home, it's a lot to think about
Whole generation, left in doubt
Innocent families killed in the midst
It'll be more dead people after this
So I'm glad to be alive and walkin
Half of my platoon came home in coffins
Except the general, buried in the Storm
in bits and pieces no need to look for em
I played it slick and got away with it
Rigged it up so they would think they did it
Now I'm home on reserves and you can bet
when THEY call, I'm going AWOL
Cause it ain't no way I'm going back to war
when I don't know who or what I'm fighting for
So I wait for terrorists to attack
Every time a truck backfires I fire back
I look for shelter when a plane is over me
Remember Pearl Harbor? New York could be over, G
Kamikaze, strapped with bombs
No peace in the East, they want revenge for Saddam
Did I hear gunshots, or thunder?
No time to wonder, somebody's going under
Put on my fatigues and my camoflouge
Take control, cause I'm in charge
When I snapped out of it, it was blood, dead bodies on the floor

Iran Protests courtesy of the CIA

honkeytonk73 says...

Take anything and everything you see in the media with a grain of salt. While it may hold truth, it is truth through a filtered lens.

During the Bush era there were mass protests from thousands to tens of thousands across the country regarding everything from election fraud for the first election run, to anti-torture and anti-war rallies later in the administration.

Few were covered in the new media to any substantive degree. A short image here or there, but never anything in depth regarding a pro/con discussion over their protester grievances. Nothing. In the 1960's these protests were reported on. They were broadcast. The anti-war/Vietnam movement was highly vocal and highly publicized in comparison.

The media, through the puppet-strings of the powers-that-be show you what they want you to see. Unbiased reporting does not exist in 'for profit' media driven by 'image' over 'substance'.

Remember the events surrounding the so-called Russian invasion of Georgia? In the immediate aftermath, Russia was made into the aggressive power. The media ate up the story and broadcast it far and wide. Later it was proven that Russia was not in this alone. The US (Bush Administration) through oil deals was making an agressive resource/power grab through a major supply route. Russia did not like this. Georgia shot first. Russia then trampled Georgia with overbearing and far too much force. The US supplied Georgia with knowledge, logistics, and military hardware. Did you happen to notice the Georgian soldiers in the media broadcasts were wearing US variant fatigues and wielding M16's? Well. there you have it. The truth later came out and was exposed to a degree, and the 'power chess-game' effectively hit a stalemate. Stories of an embedded dead US soldier and another captured were quickly buried. The media quickly focused on other subjects and it disappeared from the lime light.

Regarding Iran.. these protest are real and are not sponsored by the CIA (though they certainly may have their fingers in the pie). However, the coverage of the events to direct public opinion in the west, is most assuredly tainted and smells bad.

We so quickly forget all the dead Burmese, Tibetans, and all those 'we' willfully ignored in Darfur. The US is a nation that takes action when it's financial/economic/resource interests are at stake and will spare no expense to exert it's force in such circumstances. However if it involves a backwater nation with negligible resources, or lacking of strategic value. Then they get but a word or two, a mention at the UN, and a piddly budget allotment that wouldn't be enough to keep a single small town public US school functioning for a year.

Cop arrests journalist and cameraman

>> ^blankfist:
BTW, is that a military man in his fatigues just when the camera was set down? Anyone else see that? (@2:38)

Yep it was, you can't really tell, but it looked like there were firemen surrounding a body to the right of the frame that he was going to help.

>> ^redyellowblue:
Do police like this man get training on how to be tactically be down to earth? I'd say the first approach should be "Hey guys, this area is dangerous please leave, or go over there where it's safer. I can't perform my duties and I don't want you to become a liability here" (something like that) if they decline, then you can ask them to leave without a "please".
I hope the cop wasn't supposed to be doing something else when he got busy with the reporters.

I'd completely agree with you, that the officer was running them off for their safety, if they weren't separated from the accident by a fence, and there appeared to be no immediate danger since there was a crowd of people watching that our stubby little friend ignored in his fervor to chase off the reporter and camera guy.

Frankly it's a real shame that the douche couldn't have caught a pant leg on the fence when he jumped it, and fallen on his face.
