Tim Minchin | Nine life lessons

noims says...

I have to say I disagree with him on point 5. I think most of us should have our assholes examined a lot more often.

Hey, it's Movember. Got to shout out for men taking care of their asses, their balls, and their mental heath. Check today... if everything's OK, at least you know what OK feels like.

Other than that, I couldn't agree more.

Your Brain On Ayahuasca: The Hallucinogenic Drug

shagen454 says...

I took ayahuasca with a brazillian religion called Santo Diame... in the US, we would call them a cult. And cult-like it was! I've smoked DMT many times and I fully encourage "explorers" to start small and smoke it instead of ingesting ayahuasca. It's all very difficult to figure out scientifically, but one of the interesting aspects of ayahuasca to me, was that you could close your eyes and be in another dimension, open them up and basically feel drunk and know everything was OK, get up and walk around.

However, the visions that I had were absolutely violent, with archetypes of the day of the dead and greek mythology emerging while people puked and cried while I was attached to their sound and energies, brains exploding, the power of life telling me it was going to get me, I could fight it all I wanted (I just smiled the whole time), but it was going to get me - and then it let me slide, eventually. DMT has a known effect, that is of "ego-death" or "near death experience"... and I definitely fought it off, having experienced it before. It was a deranged, somewhat fun, somewhat enlightening, traumatic experience that I would recommend to no one. And I can see that it's definitely not a lone man/woman mission as in to dose yourself with this stuff because it's definitely more intense than LSD or mushrooms and the mixture, though simple - would require a bit of practicing and knowledge about it.

I just find smoking DMT to be way better, shorter and much safer, but also WAY more intense and awesome. But, it's certainly not for everyone, it's like unlocking the unknown/impossible laws of the Universe, it's impossible to understand but you understand it while you are there as it is communicated to you; might be just in your brain but somehow nature provided this (bizarre/impossible) experience for you to be able to have.... ---- do not understand

Please Come With Me

You should learn a little respect... Officer says

newtboy says...

Well, by that measure, I COULD think you were a complete snarky douchebag first, making personally insulting attacks for no reason other than you disagreed with my position...but where does that kind of thinking leave us?

As I still see it, you made a mistake in your logic, I said so and calmly explained how without name calling or insults (which continue in my direction). I don't see that as rude or insulting in any way, I'm sorry you do (but still don't get why).

Allow me to explain again, calmly, since you still don't seem to see my point...the cop started the stop with some attitude IMO (and not a helpful attitude), and much more important, he continued with the stop after seeing there was clearly no problem he needed to solve. If he was simply being a 'good guy helping' he would have nicely said 'OK sir, just making sure everything's OK.' and both gone on their way, not 5-6 minutes of posturing and snark.
If that doesn't convince you he wasn't just being a good guy, but instead was looking for something to cite the driver for, or a best exerting his power by 'holding' him without cause, nothing will.
It may have been his original reason for stopping the first time, even the second, but is evaporated the instant it's clear there's no problem, BEFORE he asks for ID and proof of insurance. That action denies the 'just trying to help' theory, it's not a 'helpful' action in any way. To me, that's applying logic, not telepathy.

If you really feel I'm a troll, please don't feed me, ignore me for gods sake! It's that simple. I would only ask that you note that I'm not the one of us who devolved into personal insults, nor will I simply because I disagree with your position. That's what trolls do. ;-)

speechless said:

Well, I think you were rude (and more than a little condescending) with this "pointing out where you made your mistake in logic..." bullshit.

I don't see anything you said, or that the cop did, that "proved" his "ulterior motives" in this video. You are coming off like a paranoid nutjob imo. You haven't said anything to make my "theory" not hold up.

In any event, I'm getting this whole "don't feed the troll" vibe with you lately. So maybe I'll follow that instinct now.

Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe you are Professor X and telepathically know the ulterior motives of all police at all times.

Suppressed Documentary Shows Nuclear Power Coverup

Porksandwich says...

*IF* one of these events were to happen in the US. No nuclear plant that has ever been in question will be allowed to continue operation. It will give fuel to the fight against the NRC and the plants in question beyond a reasonable doubt that the concerns were valid.

Now.....that's where I think the whole NRC+Plant buddy relationship doesn't make sense. Because for them to remain buddies, someone has to be getting paid. So they should be looking for the pay offs or "job opportunities" people at the NRC are receiving instead of them being just poor at their jobs.

If the NRC can't inspect the plants in their entirety on some regular basis, how they can appear on camera and claim everything is OK? You'd have to be an idiot because if it happened in your lifetime, your life would be over...people would own everything you've ever worked for due to your blind eye.

And the plants......well we know their thinking. Money. But if anything ever did happen, they'd be done. They'd all be paid and probably living far away from the danger zones because they know better......but those companies would be done.

I just don't see the reason people are all "short term thinking" EVERYTHING anymore.

Al Franken shreds anti-gay witness

Porksandwich says...

I haven't heard of any poor folks adopting kids unless they are related to them or have something in the will of the biological parents saying it can be done upon their death or disability.

That means on the whole adopted kids are going to have access to a lot more resources than a non-adopted....assuming the adoptive parents don't suddenly go broke or illegally adopt to bypass the financial concerns.

That also means those adoptive parents can decide where to live, where to send their kids to school...and generally make sure their kids are raised in a place where the typical public school is not going to offer an environment able to deal with them being adopted by homosexual couples, mixed race couples, couples who are of a different race than the adopted kid, any other combination I haven't thought of. They on the whole have the finances to shape the environment their kid will grow up and the people whom they live near and associate with. Hell there might even be communities out there where they cater specifically to adoptive parents and adopted kids of "unconventional" varieties.

I mean in general, adoptive parents aren't just on a whim deciding they want a kid to keep their marriage together or whatever else. They have to spend a long time, a lot of money, and go through many checks before and after to make sure everything is OK......so it's very unlikely they are going to go through that just to get a kid and turn around to raise it into a psychopath or whatever.

So....there's a chance the study could have ignored homosexual couples due to the marriage thing, but I suspect they chose that definition so they wouldn't have to break down each case to describe the race of the child, the race of the parents, ages of all involved and whatever else. Although I really doubt they excluded gay couples.....I don't think someone at the adoption agencies and decided to filter them out because while married (at least marked in their system as married) but aren't the traditional man/woman combo.

Religion of Peace strikes again

enoch says...

this is pretty brutal.the raw footage makes it even more visceral.
this is technically snuff but with redeeming value in the sense of staring horror in the face.
and this IS horror.
the horror of fundamentalism.
the horror that a group-think mentality fueled by religious dogma could so easily persuade a human being to take a bat to another human beings head while the onlookers cheer.
the horror that these very same people believe with all their hearts they are doing "gods work" and are justified in their brutality perpetrated on another human being.
the horror that maybe another fundamentalist from another religion may watch this and feel a sense of duty to pick up a gun or some other weapon and stand as a "holy warrior" to enact a justice demanded by "their god" against the muslim zealot.
the horror of the cycle of the fundamentalists justifications and rationalizations to perpetrate atrocities against their fellow man all in the name of "god".
this is not holy.
this is not sacred.
there is no justification.
there can be no rationalization.
this is murder.
this is horror.
so look in to face of religious zealotry and know horror.

or maybe you would prefer a pretty face reading from a teleprompter?
and you can gasp in shock at the atrocity while never actually having to LOOK at it.
never having to come too close...
or see too much...
and while you may be aware there is evil in the world,
it is far away and no where near your tiny, safe and small little world.
if that is the case well then go back to sleep little one.
everything is ok in your little bubble of existence and the boogeyman resides far away from your shores.
go back to the mind numbing game shows and american idol.
go back to your 9 to 5 while your soul slowly bleeds out.
repost your favorite cat video on facebook and comment on some arbitrary and pointless poll and pat yourself on the back for your "contributions to society".
go back to sleep.

9 Year Old Girl Squats 187lbs for New World Record

and then..
she vomits her guts up, detaches her uterus and is left emotionally stunted because all of her peers fear her roid rage & tiny mustache.

Ya know women used to not be allowed to run marathons like back in the 60s or something because it was believed by doctors their uterus would detach. In fact there's a cool story about some woman breaking into the Boston Marathon and a cool video of it I'll try to find it because it's neat. You see a steward try to tackle her and everything.

EDIT: Ok her name is Bobbi Gibb...it's a cool story and it's told in "Spirit of the Marathon" fond here on Hulu.

The owner is SOOOO annoying. It's a dog lady.. hold it together.
The other problem here is even if the dog lives long term it is going to have major behavior problems with an idiot owner like that. She is praising the dogs nervous behavior after it recovers so it will likely become very neurotic.

What in the name of fuck are you talking about?
First off, who the fuck are you to tell people what they should be upset about? If i don't really care about my mum, and your mum dies, am i in my rights to tell you to shut the fuck up crying about just your mum?
Second off, how the hell is she rewarding nervous behaviour? The dog is scared, it experienced a trauma, she is cuddling the dog. Best bet is to remain calm so that the dog knows that everything is ok, but that's pretty hard given the situation.
You're talking pseudo science bollocks and hopefully you realise that before you open up your dog training advice centre. I'd be surprised if you even owned a dog. Take it from someone with experience - the only thing she did wrong was panic, and i'd have done the same wrong if any of my dogs collapsed.

I love my mom.

Just sayin'

Cops Plant Drugs On Suspect, Then Arrest Him for Possession

visionep says...

The DA says there wasn't any wrongdoing, so I guess everything is OK.

http://www.wsmv.com/news/15370841/detail.html

Note that they say there is a part later in the video where the guy says the cop found weed in his pocket, so that is somehow an admission of guilt.

I wish there was more follow up on this to see how the federal case is going. It bugs me that all of these police brutality videos are posted but most of the time we never know if there was any justice in the long run.
