Costco lets woman return dead Christmas tree in January

newtboy says...

This is why Costco is no longer such a discount.
No questions asked returns with no time limits....this policy was too easy to abuse.
They have changed that policy for electronics. I'm glad, my brother used to return 3-5 year old computers and electronics for full refunds...it always pissed me off. Now, thanks to people like him (and her), if my new tv dies after 7 months, I'm sol.

The History Of Electronic Dance Music

NirnRoot says...

I'm not sure if it is really considered "electronic dance music", but that sound of music always reminds me of the tunes I listened to in my youth: tracker tunes (.MOD, .IT, .S3M) from the likes of Purple Motion, and Skaven and FutureCrew.

The Art of Making a Nixie Tube

That's a very interesting video. He's making lovely, handmade electronics, something you just don't see at all any more.

It's at times an almost painfully inefficient process. Robots are taking a lot of jobs from people, but I think there will always be a market for such hand made, hand crafted goods. Each one is different. They're a little wonky, a little taller, shorter, whatever. A machine would make them much better in every objective way. Faster, more consistent and more reliable. But it could never give them the charm they so obviously have.

Super 73 ebike review: the best electric bike!

AeroMechanical says...

Looks very cool and I want one because of that, but it seems like a massively inefficient design for something where efficiency is pretty important. Why the steel frame? Why not aluminum or one of those fancy bike alloys if aluminum isn't strong enough? Why the big wheels and fat tires with all their extra weight and increased rolling friction just for the sake of aesthetics? The minibike layout does seem pretty good for an electronic bike though.

Team Trump's Absurd Defenses for Don Jr.'s Emails: A Closer

CrushBug says...

Oh, and from what I read, that security clearance form is NOT an electronic form and must be "wet signed" in person before it is submitted, so there is no way that his staff "pressed send".

This is from folks on Twitter that have actually filled out this form.

Meh, He's not bitter... I watched a helldesk guy rip his headphones off. Open the bottom drawer in the desk. yell in to the mic "You're in the penalty box!" slam the headset in to the drawer and slam it shut and walk out of the building... He had spent an hour trying to help a lost cause.

We called those type of customers the 12 O'clock flashers. People too stupid to be able to set the clocks on any electronics in the house so they all flash 12:00.....

Every IT guy has his stories. They almost always end the same way.....
He's the person leaving the liquor store with the two cartons of cigs and the daily supply of JD...

If I had been God
I would have rearranged the veins in the face to make them more resistant to alcohol and less prone to ageing
If I had been God
I would have sired many sons and I would not have suffered the Romans to kill even one of them
If I had been God
With my staff and my rod
If I had been given the nod
I believe I could have done a better job

If I were a drone
Patrolling foreign skies
With my electronic eyes for guidance
And the element of surprise
I would be afraid to find someone home
Maybe a woman at a stove
Baking bread, making rice, or just boiling down some bones
If I were a drone

The temple's in ruins
The bankers get fat
The buffalo's gone
And the mountain top's flat
The trout in the streams are all hermaphrodites
You lean to the left but you vote to the right

And it feels like déjà vu
The sun goes down and I'm still missing you
Counting the cost of love that got lost
And under my Gulf Stream, in circular balls
There's ninety-nine cents worth of drunkards and fools

THE WORLD’S FASTEST CAMERA...

vil says...

Any time you "see" an electron or photon, you change the scene (more like you only see the effects of when they hit something).

If you try to "display" the "position" of an electron or photon relative to something else, like another electron or photon, or a matchbox for scale, you get in complicated trouble.

You can't bounce a laser pulse off a photon. Something lost in translation from Swedish? Like a sarcasm tag somewhere?

THE WORLD’S FASTEST CAMERA...

spawnflagger says...

I'll have to see how this is possible when they publish a paper about it (the linked article isn't very technical). I'm only skeptical because light is faster than electrons, and any kind of digital camera needs electrons to move around...

Huh; did not know that. Electronically isolated or mechanically?
