Massive Magnetic Storm Means Aurora Possible In Arizona

noims says...

It's apparently a Cannibal CME. The sun threw a Coronal Mass Ejection at us, and a while later threw a faster one. The faster one eats and merges with the original one to become one huge one.

My twin loves of astronomy and horror films combine. Mmmm.

Rescued a moose - so cute.

A møøse once bit my sister.

(It was either that or mention of a Coronal Moose Ejection, given that we might well have powerful aurorae this Saturday)

CAN I get Tom Scott to LAND a B737MAX, ALONE?!

newtboy says...

In the next simulation the door plug needs to self eject and the front landing gear needs to fall off like has happened to 737s this month.
Boeing is screwed. They designed their inspection system so they can remove the door plug, do required repair work, and reinstall it but call that “opening the door” so there’s not an inspection afterwards, which happened on the plane that lost its door.
Worse, if the photos Boeing gave the press are correct, they are using jam nuts (two thin nuts that loosely “jam” together under pressure only if properly installed) instead of castle nuts and cotter pins (that cannot unscrew) on bolts that will fall out if they’re not secured. That is a horrible design flaw if accurately reported, and explains all the loose bolts found on other planes!
American and Alaska are already talking to airbus and considering cancelling their orders from Boeing completely.

Democrat NYC, citizens fed up of Illegals

@visionep
It's important to file trespass charges in these cases.

@newtboy

Don't forget to trespass these illegals and eject them back across the border.

Funny how Democrats are all for illegals till they show up in their neighborhood and take their resources.

Or should we just call it what Democrats are, Hypocrites

Congratulations! Your video, Pilots Who Ejected At The Last Second, has reached the #1 spot in the current Top 15 New Videos listing. This is a very difficult thing to accomplish but you managed to pull it off. For your contribution you have been awarded 2 Power Points.

This achievement has earned you your "Golden One" Level 220 Badge!

Ameca and the most realistic AI robots. Beyond Atlas.

spawnflagger says...

I agree with newtboy - Elon has a lot of bad ideas. (most of which are debunked with high school physics - see the many Thunderf00t videos). But there's a lot of smart people working at Tesla and SpaceX who are actually doing a bulk of the work & innovation.

But, this video isn't about Musk, it's about Robots and AI. Many more examples and companies than just Tesla-bot.

Don't worry though, humanity will be 'saved' from the robots by a large coronal mass ejection event that fries the grid and most computers on Earth.

What Happens If Yellowstone Blows Up Tomorrow?

newtboy says...

Crap. I wanted to like this video.
Unfortunately this starts with bad information and gets worse...claiming Yellowstone is the largest super volcano....but Yellowstone's biggest eruption was 2,800 km3 almost 9000000 years ago.... Toba in Sumatra erupted 13,200 km3 only 75000 years ago. The most recent Yellowstone eruption was around 640000 years ago and only 1000km3.
Even Taupo ejected 1170km3 in that last super eruption, far more than Yellowstone's most recent.

Where did they get the idea that an ash cloud would spread in every direction evenly?! It's just wrong. The ash cloud would be blown East by upper atmospheric winds...eventually circling the globe but not expanding to the West very far....just like previous eruptions did.

They mention America going abroad to get food in such an event, then go on to mention global dimming, temperature drops, and sulfur contamination damaging crops...but don't put the two together. In such an event, no country on earth could feed it's own population, much less have a surplus to sell to the worst hit area, America. In 1815, the year without a summer caused world wide famine, epidemics, and a halt to shipping because winter ice packs remained through the summer in many places, and crop failures and epidemics continued for years afterwards. That eruption was only 160–213km3 and there were under 1 billion people to feed on the planet.
A large Yellowstone eruption would be 4-10 times that size, with effects being worse and lasting longer, and there are around 8 times as many mouths to feed.
The largest eruption we know of was nearly 100 times the size of Tambora in 1815....and wasn't Yellowstone.

Edit: let's not forget the disruption to airlines for possibly years and interference with satellite signals like we've never experienced....and what does that sulphur do to an already acidic ocean?

I want to know his sources, because they don't jibe with historical records.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Rolls Over In Small Overlap Crash Tests

newtboy says...

Different test, driver side vs passenger makes a difference, but almost all those trucks seem to have ended up with the wall crushing the footwell or worse. I would rather flop on my side that lose a foot or leg any day.
Ejection is only an issue if you aren't wearing seatbelts.
Imo, the jeep still seems like the winner.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Rolls Over In Small Overlap Crash Tests

newtboy says...

Do jeeps not come with roll bars anymore? Mine has a full cage with 4 point seatbelts, it's nearing 50 years old.

I'm also curious to see other cars tested this way. I bet most flop over in this test, that or have the front wheel or crash wall inside the cab at the end. Yes, 4x4s roll easier, but most are made stronger AND have extra safety like roll bars. If you wear a seatbelt, you wouldn't be ejected.

Loose Cannon | 1994 Fairchild Air Force Base B-52 Crash

newtboy says...

$7500 for dereliction of duty that killed an entire flight crew and an expensive aircraft?! Colonel Pellerin and the rest of the officers involved should be indentured servants with no pay until they pay off the price of the plane (so for life), and be in prison for the length of time he stole from those flight crew's lives....they should definitely be forced to hand their pension over to their victims and lose their rank if there was such a thing as military justice.
I'm more than a little surprised no one killed that show off in self defense....the next time a pilot takes his bomber to 3', eject him.

Chinese Bus Crashes Off Bridge

ForgedReality says...

Look at the driver video. He DELIBERATELY cranks the wheel to the left. She had already stopped her assault for a moment. He was not distracted at the time, there was nothing in front to avoid.

He was going straight, and then she goes out of view and he suddenly swerves left ON PURPOSE.

You can see from the other dashcam, that there are no vehicles ahead of the bus that he was trying to avoid.

I think he was trying to get her to fall down and stop attacking him when the bus hit the barrier. I don't think he was expecting to go over the side. He was hoping the bus would just crash and she would maybe be ejected through the windshield, but he 100% purposely crashed the vehicle.

Mic'd up ump dealing with a pissed off manager

Im surprised this hasn't been taken down yet. The original was removed quickly after it was posted.

The below is quoted from an article in the Sporting News article...

Commissoner Rob Manfred said Thursday that MLB made a commitment to the umpires that if they agreed to wear microphones then certain interactions, like the one with Collins, would not be aired publicly.

"We promised them that. It's in the collective bargaining agreement. We had no choice in a situation like that than to do everything possible to live up to our agreement," Manfred said, per the Associated Press. "It is Labor Relations 101. To not do that is the kind of breach of trust that puts you in a bad spot over the long haul." http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/news/mets-terry-collins-video-umpire-argument-micd-up-noah-syndergaard-ejection/1ooltz0uohtcg1qkbc5x94ua6i

Mic'd up ump dealing with a pissed off manager

RFlagg says...

Okay, so many questions as I don't do baseball much.

First, why would he throw the ball so far behind the batter? Just to walk him? Whenever I've seen them walk a batter, the catcher just stands and they just throw high and over to the side. Why would he be ejected for walking a batter? Batters are walked all the time. What is the situation where you can't walk a batter? Is it the way he's walking the batter being far off normal?
