Claustrophobia Cave Compilation
Just read that article. Then google searched and found a link to a different article that had a drawing of the guy and his position in the cave. Now this will haunt me for a very long time.
https://9gag.com/gag/an9yd6o
Reminds me of the story of Nutty Putty Cave in Utah, which was closed after a 6'1" caver became lodged in a crevice upside-down and died as his bodily fluids redistributed to his head and lungs. They sealed him in there after he died.
You can read about his ordeal here: https://www.sltrib.com/news/2018/07/10/nutty-putty-were-going/
Tesla China - Shanghai Gigafactory production line
As a 'car guy', the biggest draw to a Tesla [for me] is the acceleration ... and since the model 3, handling is 'good nuff for a stock car'. A model 3 even won scca solo b street.
Eventually they can get their electronics switching fast nuff to maintain torque above 100 (or add a gear), and it will probably be a pretty good track car too.
I never cared for the self driving and whatever else. I just care about the basics. Tesla basics are pretty good.
The down side of tesla is that you can't fix it yourself. Their parts are coded to each other, and even if you replace a bad part with a good one, it won't work till the ECM is coded to it. Pretty much a repair monopoly.
You can replace some control boards/software to help with that, but Tesla detects it and punishes you with a quick charge lockout.
Don't really feel comfortable owning a car I am not allowed to fix.
For someone like me, Tesla has only 1 vulnerability : Other manufacturers can choose to make fast EVs, too.
That's all it would take [for someone like me] to change Tesla from 'the only game in town' to 'just one of many'.

Assembly of the worlds largest fusion reactor (ITER) begins
Oh yes I take ITER as good news, but it still leaves us 20 - 40 years from a... well I wanted to write a commercial fusion plant, however that might be a trifle optimistic.
Lets say we are at best 20-40 years from a functional prototype of a commercialy viable plant.
ITER is very much a test, any way you bend it. DEMO is waiting for ITERs outcome. Of course ITER will work, tokamaks have operated since the 1960s, that is like claiming a rocket will almost certainly fly. Yet we still stand in awe when it does.
It took 50 years from Einsteins nearly blind-guess prediction of a physical phenomenon to fission power plants. 50 years from the Orvilles hops to jet passenger planes. 58 years from Ciolkovskys crazy drawings to a man in space. In my grandfathers lifetime we went from horse-drawn carriages to the SR-71.
In my lifetime we have gone from landing on the moon to almost maybe landing there again some time.
We are slowing down or the going is getting more difficult.
Good news and bad news then.

the thing about the guns is insidious.
the right might be a bit over-confident.
most liberals are richer than conservatives.
better educated. healthier. and just more of them.
money could well turn into more guns, higher quality, and amply supplied. they live in cities. better distribution. and education pays off in all means of defense.
living in cities, they would have an advantage in urban warfare.
even the thought of a lithe, pilates loving gal w/yoga training and pants armed w/a sniper rifle should draw concern. being in excellent shape, knowing the best hiding points, and being able to control her heart rate and breathing.

How to Apply Your Mask
I entertained the thought of drawing a smile on my mask. I decided it would probably look "insensitive" as I wheeled a family's deceased loved one out the door on a gurney.
----------------------------
Best removal I ever did:
Loaded the deceased into my vehicle as the family of about 6 adults watched. Just before I pulled away one family member knocked on my window and he told me they were all going to salute as I pulled away and I didn't need to stop.
I thought that was pretty cool.
As I was leaving I looked in the rear view mirror and the whole family was flipping the bird high in the air. It was a beautiful send off.
I felt as though I was among my own kind. Brought a tear to my eye.
War On USPS
Trump brought the post office into election discussions, both by his disastrous covid response making voting in person unsafe and his attacks on the post office and vote by mail itself while drawing a false distinction between vote by mail and absentee vote by mail, which except for coming up with a reason you can't vote in person (and the CDC gave every American that reason when they declared in person voting unsafe) are exactly the same with exactly the same verification process despite the lies Trump oozes constantly.
Derp de derp de do.

Pantera - Walk (Stylophone cover)
...draw a triangle... is all I hear after watching this and seeing him draw a lot of triangles.
Largest ever 3D map of the universe
Good explanation.
A way to demonstrate it is to inflate a balloon a little, draw dots on it at intervals, then inflate the balloon.
From any dot you look at, all other dots are moving away from it.
The Walk.
It's not really about the ramp. He's an old rickety man, naturally he has trouble.
The problem is that he forces doctors to lie about his health, then things like this make the truth obvious.
Then he compounds lies upon lies. His skin is so thin he just can't let it go, he rambles for 10 minutes about how unfair everything is.
Remember, this is a guy born to incredible wealth, never worked a day in his life, thinks that knowing a fucking rhinoceros from a drawing is an impressive achievement, is cruel and demeaning whenever he has a chance, treats the world, and women's genitalia as his own personal playground with few repercussions, no matter how egregiously he's broken the law, rips off investors, contractors, the very country he now pretends to serve, lost billions of dollars in personal wealth while bragging about how good he is with money, had to turn to Russian lenders because US and European banks wouldn't touch him anymore, yet somehow fell ass backwards into the presidency of the US. Now he uses that position to line his own pockets, without the slightest care for those he hurts or kills in the process.
And yet... he finds life doesn't treat him fairly. He whines and complains.
You know the only time he's seemed truly sad and upset while President?
Was it when 100,000 Americans died while he made things worse?
No.
Was it when police started ramming innocent protestors and media with their vehicles, tear gassing, beating, and maiming with rubber bullets?
No.
What about when mass shootings happened on his watch, or school shootings, like Obama?
No.
He got truly publicly upset for the first time in his presidency when a disappointing number of adoring fans came to a rally.
He is so pathetic and useless, so self-serving and evil that pain, death, suffering on a scale that really hasn't been seen in the US in a very long time means nothing.
The only thing that matters is him.
Now, what were you saying about Biden?
Do you still want to do that side-by-side comparison?
Do you really think this is about a ramp?
It's an 11 degree ramp, not 3, which is over 2 times the gradient allowed (as per the ADA). And the ADA requires ramps of this sort to have handrails.
Where's the comparison video? I.e., Biden coming down the ramp.
Black face debate | It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
pretty sure the best thing you can do is help the people who need to be heard get heard and not draw attention to yourself or be performative in your support [as a presumably white person]. i think painting your arm black would generally be perceived as performative and trying to steal the spotlight from those much more deserving. be like the white dude at the 1968 olympics: help create the space and then get out of the way.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Rolls Over In Small Overlap Crash Tests
You might want to watch all those videos again.
Hitting a parked car at 60km/h and not rolling would be a clearly better outcome. The parked car is not a solid wall, it cannot bring you to a "dead stop".
Hitting a barrier and rolling is clearly worse than hitting the same barrier and sliding along it, "bouncing" off it, spinning etc even if you're clipped by another car. Again even with the sharp swerve into the barrier it would never have been a "dead stop"
Hitting the car in front which has suddenly braked would be far better than a high speed roll even if the car behind proceeds to rear end you. The closest to your "dead stop" scenario and still far better than a high speed roll.
I'm arguing with you because you often backup what you're saying with demonstrable facts, in this case you're not. You're ignoring variables, using differing experience to draw conclusions and dismissing the severity of something based on your controlled personal experience of it.
"Citation? Physics. acceleration = Δv/Δt. Larger injuries come from higher g forces."
Has nothing to do with studies in vehicular CSI. I asked for a citation relating to maximum force/time being a primary factor in vehicular CSI not a physics equation and a stunningly simplified opinion. Again this is the shit I'm arguing with you about.
Grandma steps in front of police guns to protect grandson .
And why did 6+ cops need to draw and aim their guns at an unarmed man with his hands high for running a stop sign? Clear excessive force with no explanation besides racism.
*doublepromote another daily reminder that cops are a racist gang of violent power tripping thugs that will toss your grandma to the ground if she talks back.
Doctors Are Sick Of Wasteful Flyover "Tributes" (to trump)
Canada is doing the same shit with our Snowbirds and worse, there's been an accident with one crew member killed. It's not just a waste of money, the flyover attracts spectators, drawing crowds out to see the show (and risk infection) while under "stay at home" orders and the REQUISITE health workers coming out from their hospitals to see the show to be "paid respect to," it's a waste of their precious time and more workload for them.
